The service was very good because you could call the carrier if there was a problem with delivery. Then, once there was no carrier you had to call the Bee office re: delivery or other problems. That has not been satisfactory. I recently signed on for the Bee's online service, but I don't like it as much as the printed copy.

It's also very difficult to cancel a subscription, the website is bugged and doesn't work properly, they force you into a phone call, where they attempt to make you pay a balance you never agreed too in the first place. They will eventually send this outstanding balance to collections to further profit off of you. Very shady business tactics and disgraceful for a news paper outlet. My family has been reading the Bee since we moved to Sacramento back in the early 60's, it's always been a reputable name. Well, not anymore. The companies been sold and the customer care is non existent. There's a reason they're going out of business and the reason is self afflicted greed, desperation and dishonesty from a failing company.

The next day I call, David isn't available and I'm directed to leave a voicemail. My question is even if I Leave a voicemail, and David doesn't call me back before noon, would I be charged extra? the representative said i would have to ask David. At this point I ask the representative for his name as reference, he refused to give me his full name. Stated that he wasn't "comfortable" giving it out. I would imagine a newspaper company to be professional and to help consumers as much as possible Update- David was able to return my call.

This is a freebie color 'zine distributed at all sorts of places in the Midtown/Downtown area. I…read morefirst spotted a stack sitting outside of a place in Old Sacramento and was amazed at how much cool local stuff they had in it. They cover the live music scene, art culture and events, and other random goings-on within Sac. There's also at least one featured review of a local dining establishment and a decent dining directory (although small). This is a must for any gridster. And it's free. Coolishness.

I love the idea of knowing what is going on inside the grid. People consistently complain that there is "nothing to do" in Sacramento--indeed, a recent discussion thread bears witness to this complaint in the most immediate way. So, let's give credit where credit is due. MM does a rather good job disseminating this information. It has its collective ear to the ground and, unlike SNR or other local periodicals, does considerably more than repeat what you've already heard elsewhere. I inevitably learn something--and something interesting--about Sac every time I read MM, and you can't say that about very many freebies. On to the facility of the execution... MM is in its infancy, so some bumps in the road are expected. The initial issues were loaded with copy editing snafus, and one found grammatical errors of all stripes (misplaced apostrophes, misused pronouns, misspelled words). Recent issues are, however, much improved in this regard. I still find that the writing still lacks the verve and edginess that the substance of the magazine begs for, but the gap here is closing, too. Form has not quite caught up with content, at least not yet, but every issue is better than the last. I'm very pleased to see all these improvements--careless writing is evidence of careless thinking, and MM has done a nice job tightening up both. I continue to be mildly disappointed with the reviews and editorial content, but find these recently improved as well. MM does a very good job telling us going on, but could, I think, do a better job telling us why we should care. There seems to be an unwillingness to take the sledgehammer to anyone, and there are places that richly deserve a harsh treatment. The reviews are overwhelmingly positive, but it is hard to know exactly why that is. Is it because the reviewers only review good things, because they are afraid to criticize neighboring businesses, or because they are unable to distinguish good from bad? In short, I don't know. I hope, however, that MM joins to its decidedly self-congratulatory air the discernment and critical sniffishness that would justify it. I am a long way from thinking that a good critic hates everything, but he has to hate something, and to explain himself in an ingratiating way. All I want to see is more critical animus, expressed a bit more felicitously.

The articles I read on here feel like they are coming from trusted friends ... and some of them are! I feel Sac Press fills a very distinct gap in our news source -- local print (well online) that is not raving to the left or hugely behemoth or full of fluff. Press journalist…read more We met at the State Capitol in Nov. while celebrating Adoption Month where information was shared with others who wanted to learn about the adoption process; there was also a candle light service to honor thousands of children waiting for a home. My adopted son and I, met Annabelle who was intrigued by our story in how we became a family...what was even more interesting is that she later disclosed how she entered the foster system as a child & was later adopted. She is presently a Berkeley student who is completing her studies in journalism. In my opinion, Sacramento Press is unique, professional and strives to reach out to the Sacramento community by engaging in stories with substance.

I could really care less about what's happening in SoCal (eg: recent article about Coronado, CA) or anywhere else outside of the Rancho Cordova area. There is very little local about it now. I might just as well read the Sac Bee as it has more stuff relevant to the Rancho area than the Grapevine plus I can get all the other junk the Grapevine now has in it. Really too bad. I enjoyed reading the local stories about local people and places and especially the local sports. Good bye Grapevine...it was great while it lasted. I will miss you.
