I also am biased because I'm part of the MM family, and I'll add that I'm not sure what the term "magazine shaped ambition" means.

I have been a subscriber for over 50 yrs. My review centers around service. For many years I…read moresubscribed to the Bee and it was delivered by a neighborhood carrier. The service was very good because you could call the carrier if there was a problem with delivery. Then, once there was no carrier you had to call the Bee office re: delivery or other problems. That has not been satisfactory. I recently signed on for the Bee's online service, but I don't like it as much as the printed copy.

It's also very difficult to cancel a subscription, the website is bugged and doesn't work properly, they force you into a phone call, where they attempt to make you pay a balance you never agreed too in the first place. They will eventually send this outstanding balance to collections to further profit off of you. Very shady business tactics and disgraceful for a news paper outlet. My family has been reading the Bee since we moved to Sacramento back in the early 60's, it's always been a reputable name. Well, not anymore. The companies been sold and the customer care is non existent. There's a reason they're going out of business and the reason is self afflicted greed, desperation and dishonesty from a failing company.

I subscribed to SacTown to learn the inside information about the Sac metro area. After a few experiences of eating atac the editorial reviews of restaurants and several businesses I'm sort'a done with the magazine. The whole magazine is obviously a pay to play publication. Read any issue with the glowing reviews of a restaurant. Pull the restaurant up on Yelp and learn the truth that the restaurant barely averages 3.5 stars. That's been my constant experience with 5 recommendations. Then there's the overall magazine content. 90% of the magazine is slick advertisements both big and small. This publication should be free. It's just a chamber of commerce purely capitalistic printing that should be in airport free kiosks and hotel lobbies.

Like many magazines, there is a fair amount of advertising, but the in-depth pieces (which are thoroughly researched and some of the best journalism in the region) are second-to-none and really reflect a passion and pride for Sacramento. I recently learned that Sactown has a much wider circulation now than Sacramento Magazine. I think this comes down to a number of factors. 1) Their graphics department is top-notch and does a consistently good job of assembling colorful and catchy cover designs to pull you in. 2) They have a finger on the pulse of stories that are current and important to their readers. I read their wonderful piece recently on the new owner of the Kings, as well as editorials on saving and preserving landmarks and the farm-to-fork movement. All are representative of what's important to Sacramento now, and the readers appreciate that. I took advantage of one of their many deals and my yearly subscription costs next to nothing. To get even one quality article on local happenings each month is well-worth the cost.

To echo other reviewers here, this company is a scam. Or to quote Admiral Ackbar from Star Wars,…read more"It's a trap!" Well, I got creative a review, thanks to this scammy company: Ah, "University Sports Publications," the lighthouse of unsolicited calls. Envision a company with such a dedication to bothering people, it's almost as if they've turned it into their very raison d'être. With the allure of a carnival barker and the relentlessness of a never-ending loop, they reach out under the pretense of representing everyone from esteemed educational institutions to government bodies. A veritable symphony of deception. On a perpetual quest for the "business owner," they spin yarns of opportunities and partnerships with all the inventiveness of a seasoned storyteller. Their commitment to the scam is, in a bizarre way, almost praiseworthy. The collective reviews here form a unified choir of the deceived and disturbed, highlighting University Sports Publications' exceptional skill in uniting individuals--against them. And if lawsuits are tales, then this company's storybook is rich with chapters of legal adventures and questionable business ethics. A quick search online reveals a treasure trove of lawsuits and warnings about their practices. So, should their number ever appear on your caller ID, prepare yourself. You're about to be offered a prime opportunity to test the limits of your patience. University Sports Publications: pioneers in the field of frustration. Before picking up, it might be wise to do a little digging into their colorful history of legal entanglements and business misadventures. Engage at your own peril, or perhaps find peace in the blissful act of hitting "ignore."

Please stop calling our office. I tell you "we will call back if we are interested" but we're not,…read moreso we don't, but you keep calling.
