OUTSTANDING!! My family and I have been using Senior Helpers-Thousand Oaks, CA for about 4 or 5 years now we love them. My wife, Tracy, has physical and cognitive disabilities and I needed some respite as I am her full time caregiver. It is a very high standard to achieve my complete trust concerning my wife. We have been blessed with Kathleen (Kathy) for the past several years and she has become an honorary family member. She cares for my wife as if they were related. Kathleen from Senior Helpers is one of my wife's best friends. Twice a week, Senior Helpers gives me time to catch up on errands, rest or whatever is needed at the time. Always able to provide coverage for a spur of the moment additional needed shift. The office is very communicative and case managers are always available. The caregivers are Covid aware and are always prompt and friendly. Senior Helpers has been a life saver for my family's situation. My father is in hospice and my mom did not have the means to visit him there. Now, Mary, my Mom's helper, drives her to see my Dad and also helps her shop and run errands. Mary is also actively working to make sure my mom enjoys life and stays active. It has also been a pleasure talking to the owner, Mona Agarwal. She really listens to the needs of her clients and considers them part of her family. Dona was the one who initially sold us on Senior Helpers. I had interviewed several and when she came she dealt with the physical, as expected, but what sold me was that she saw mom as a valuable individual who deserved to have the best quality of life available at her 90 plus years, even with end stage dementia, Alzheimer's and sundowners. She also had aphasia whereby her verbal communication disappeared completely. So it took time and patience to find out what she wanted or needed, and if she was in any pain. In three years with Senior Helpers, we only had one situation where the caregiver didn't show for some reason, but it was rectified quickly and never happened again. We always had very competent help and I never worried about leaving her with any of the caregivers. They each made sure they knew what her schedule was, likes and dislikes, food preferences, bathing routine, etc. For mom it was important for her routine and the familiar aspects of her life not to be disrupted because it created much anxiety for her otherwise. Mom always greeted the caregivers with a big smile, which meant she was glad they were there to be with her. She had two falls during the three years that ended up with a hospitalization and trips to ER. She shattered a shoulder the first time and broke a rib the second time. The caregivers always adjusted to her needs and as medication increased, they made sure they knew of the right dosages and times. With all the help Senior Helpers gave to Mom, she stayed mobile. When she fell one evening, it was a broken hip and that made her bedridden from then on. Again the Senior Helpers caregivers adjusted. When hospice was called in, Vanessa, the caregiver at the time, worked closely with the hospice staff, whether it be oxygen, crushing pills, moving her with minimal pain, etc. I don't know what we would have done without her constant attention to mom's needs and we learned a great deal from her as well. Dona and Anne came to see us when things became more tentative with mom's health and they took the time to explain what to expect, what to do, and how to be prepared for those last days. They told us they were here for the family because mom was being well cared for. It was so heartwarming for someone to anticipate my confusion and questions and have ready, gentle answers for whatever I asked. It helped me to be prepared to say the final goodbye to mom, and the caregiver was there to help us navigate the chaos that came at her final passing. We were so touched by Dona's compassion that we ask her to officiate at mom's memorial service because she is a chaplain as well. No one knew my mom or the family as well as she did and she brought that same love and caring to the service. It was a precious memorable day for me. Although it was a hard time for us as a family to see a loved one go downhill and to ultimately lose them in passing, Senior Helpers made our journey so much more bearable. I'm very sorry for the ones who may have had a difficult time with Senior Helpers. I watched them work and observed how they schedule and I can honestly say I don't think I could do their job. It's a daunting task to be ready for anything that may come up especially when it has to do with someone's loved one. The prospect of setting up home care for my brother-in-law in California from 3000 miles away in Boston was a crippling thought. It was Senior Helpers who became my absolute "go-to" resource for all things Calabasas and more. Their initial evaluation of the situation was spot-on. And they did a magical and incredibly thoughtful job of matching up great caregivers for my could-be cantankerous Edward, setting me very much at ease on that front. They also introduced me to important resources I needed for events that played out down the road, from help in evaluating assisted living communities, Care Homes options (a care concept we do not have here in Massachusetts) and skilled nursing facilities, to the amazing hospice team who was with Edward at the end, and the estate attorney who is now helping us sort out his affairs. I cannot imagine what I would have done without this vital connection to Senior Helpers. In many ways I think they advocated for Edward in my absence. Their sturdy relationships with people I needed to know, were consequential. And although the phrase "one call did it all" may sound terribly contrived, in my very clear experience, it was also very true. read more

I cannot say enough about Senior Helpers, Westlake Village. This team is amazing! Truly a full service care giving company. Not only did they provide excellent care for my "grandmother" but my husband as well. Their staff went above and beyond to make sure everyone in the family was cared for. Our most long standing caregiver Cecelia was a young energetic, caring, compassionate LVN. If anyone had answered the calling for their profession it was Cecelia. When both my loved ones had been promoted to paradise, she stepped in and helped the hospice staff with preparing their bodies for removal from our home and made sure there was food prepared for our family to get through that day and beyond. I don't know what we would have done without Senior Helpers, from the first time Donna walked through our door for a consultation to the innumerable times that Ann helped us navigate and manage the VA benefits and payments to all the caregivers. My grandmother was diagnosed with dementia, Alzheimer's and verbal aphasia (lost the ability to speak) and when she moved in with us we knew we needed help. We interviewed several in-home caregiver services; then came Donna from SeniorHelpers. Donna first greeted my grandmother with a big smile and big hello and then sat to talk with us (myself and my parents). She didn't start with a "sales pitch" or why Senior Helpers was the right choice. She guided us through what to expect for someone with these medical issues in the twilight of their her (grandma was 90 y/o). We were deeply moved by Donna's deep sympathy, compassion and understanding. We knew immediately that we had not only found an organization with the staff who would not only support my grandmother but would also support us as a family. When grandma was put on in-home hospice and shortly, thereafter fill and broke her hip, Donna and Ann, were at our home immediately. They treated the situation as if it was their own mother or grandmother in such a serious condition. I know these ladies are in high demand and have tight scheduled but you would never know it. When they were with us we felt like they were family and the only clients they had, they spent considerable time in explaining what expect, prepare for and what we can do, etc. Vanessa our caregiver could light up a room and she was always able to make grandma smile regardless of her current state. With such a sweet and funny spirit she brought an air of hope, fun, compassion, and experience to a situation that otherwise would have been overwhelming during Grandma's final days. Having Vanessa in our home we knew that no matter what happened that day it would be ok. She even threw us out of our own home so we could have some time away and enjoy the sunlight. She knew that self-care was just as important as caring for grandma and in her words "I have this, now get out". :-) Vanessa was with us right there when grandma took her last breath, she cried with us, supported us, and guided us through what to expect next. Donna, Ann, Vanessa and all the rest at Senior Helpers became family. We asked and Donna, with the grace of an angel, accepted to give the eulogy at Grandma's funeral. Donna carries herself with grace and a steadfastness that only comes as a unique gift from God. If you are looking for a caregiving service, invite Donna into your home and you will all of the sudden find her in your heart. We never felt like "clients" or "customers". We felt like family and they were family to us. Donna, Ann and Vanessa are unique, strong and tender women and I hope that the next generation of women and caregivers coming learn from them what strength of character, leadership and a gentle guiding touch really is and what it means to those who come in contact with Senior Helpers. read more

I must declare: my family and I have had only the absolute finest of experience with Senior Helpers and its team. I am shocked and puzzled by the two critical reviews: they bear zero resemblance to our experience. SH took outstanding care of my mom in her later 90s. Dennis Wood, the owner, was a joy, and so too was Dona Williams ... Professionally excellent at the highest level AND nothing ever proved burdensome or difficult when our family requested. SH was amazingly swift and careful about my mom's care, and if or when a problem came up NOT due to SH, SH helped solve things and make life better for my mom and our entire family. I simply do not understand the other reviews; they seem, from my experience, not applicable at all. You MUST consider this enterprise seriously ... It is so hard to get care-givers to fit with their elderly charges ... The people that work in the office are great ( dona, ann, jennifer, richard, and dennis) they were always there if you needed them for anything. They were always quick to respond and always on top of things! They didnt treat you as an employee but more like a friend.Their clients are the best! I only have great praise for this company. My mother went to a nursing home after she had a massive stroke and my father would visit her every day. When he passed away, my mother felt the loss so greatly that I knew I needed to get her a companion to talk to and just be with her. I called and they connected me with Dennis. He set up an appointment right away to get someone immediately for my mother. Within a couple days, we were interviewing possible candidates and had one lined up that same day. We did have a couple of people sit with my mother before we found Brenda who just clicked with my mother. Senior Helpers were always willing to work with me to make sure everything was exactly the way I needed it to be. If I had to say what was the best quality (and there were many), I would say it had to be the promptness of all my requests. There was no waiting around and they always stayed in contact.
