They are very understanding when it comes to dementia and memory issues, and they treat everyone with respect and dignity. The facility is clean, safe, and feels warm and welcoming, not like a typical nursing home. I also liked that the residents are kept engaged with activities, which helps with their mood and overall well-being. Staff communication is also good, and they make sure families stay informed. Overall, I feel like this is a trustworthy place for loved ones who need memory care.

If you are looking for a place where safety, clinical excellence, and genuine compassion intersect, this is it. First, I want to recognize Ashi, the Administrator. Her leadership is evident the moment you walk through the doors--the team is cohesive, the environment is professional, and the care is top-tier. I spent a significant amount of time with Jessica Torres, the Community Ambassador, and she is simply exceptional. Jessica is incredibly knowledgeable and shared deep, educated insights into the nuances of memory care life. She took the time to truly educate me on what it means to live in a specialized secure unit, providing peace of mind that is hard to find elsewhere. The facility design is one of the most unique and thoughtful I have ever seen. In terms of security, it is easily one of the best I have been in. It manages to feel like a warm, inviting home while maintaining a rigorous focus on the safety of its residents. I highly recommend Silverado to any family in the Thousand Oaks area navigating the journey of memory care. It is a world-class community led by world-class people.

PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS FACILITY!!!…read more I work near this facility and personally know several seniors who live here. Based on direct knowledge and firsthand accounts, I have serious concerns about how residents are being treated. One resident I know personally was not properly cared for after a fall. After that incident, she was reportedly not assisted with meals or monitored to ensure she ate for three days. Her room has flooded twice, and because of how often this happens, it reportedly smells of mold, which raises serious health concerns. After the second flood, she was abruptly dismissed from her room so it could be cleaned and was not allowed to gather her phone, shoes, or any personal belongings. She was sent out in the middle of December wearing only sandals and no sweater. This showed a complete lack of concern for her safety, comfort, or dignity. What is most disturbing is the lack of empathy. This is a facility entrusted with the care of vulnerable seniors, yet the focus appears to be convenience and profit rather than basic human compassion. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS FACILITY!!!! Please choose another place. No one's loved one deserves to be treated this way.

The staff here is amazing, they don't just do their jobs (and they do them well) they are all very kind, supportive and loving toward her. This is a woman who would not leave her apartment, slept until noon, getting her to get dressed was a big task but her nature is social. She was famous in her youth and a singer / dancer. I could not believe that she was up and out of her room (DRESSED) by 8am and didn't return until after 5PM on day 2. EVERY SINGLE DAY she is kept active, she's singing with the pianist, playing bingo, watching movies, doing arts and crafts AND they told me she was participating in the morning walk! One of the ladies there sent me a video of her singing with the pianist today - she is in her element. Her Doctor comes to her every month (more if she needed him). I was weary that they would not be able to get her out of her room and get her dressed. AvantGarde has surpassed my expectations. I can travel without worry, I can visit her without me being the caretaker, I can rest easy knowing she is having a great time and in loving, capable hands.

The place seems more like a nice hotel than an elder care center, with beautiful grounds, winding paths, and even bunnies! This was the second place she was in memory care, and there is no comparison. The staff here is so caring and professional. They keep in regular touch with the residents' families, and spend a tremendous amount of time on enrichment activities with each resident. The food is excellent, and was served in a restaurant-like environment before the pandemic. Now it is catered to each room They also hosted a private birthday lunch in one of their small dining rooms for our family and my mother-in-law. Since the pandemic they have done a marvelous job of keeping residents safe. Most of the staff and management have been here a long time, and it's easy to see why.

My five stars go to Sunrise's executive director, Edith Kennedy, and the nursing and admin staff…read more They are exceptional, and I don't use that word a lot. Edith is particularly outstanding because she truly cares and is on her game with details, always wanting feedback (good or bad) to make your loved one's experience the best it can be. Now, with assisted living facilities this can sometimes be like moving a mountain. But, she earnestly tries. She's got your back. However, despite this, we are actually moving my dad to another local facility shortly due to one of Sunrise's bad qualities, horrible in fact, and that is...pricing. Again, to be found at many assisted living facilities but costs at Sunrise are higher than most...and they price differently than most. For example, when you first talk to them they speak of the rent as a flat rate. But it's not. Sunrise charges you a day rate per month. So your cost varies per month based on days of the month. The rent is better in February, September, April, June and November. But the other seven months with 31 days...all higher. And surprise...there are more months with 31 days in a year so the house wins. It's a bad optic. Despite the costs, they serve generic soda vs. Coke and Pepsi brands. Small yes, but at these prices...bad optic. They only have transportation offered 2 days a week while most other places provide 7 days. Again, for what they charge...bad optic. And one other thing. No matter what month you move in, your rent will be increased come January by 5-10%. The contract makes it sound like it's a random event, but it happens every year like clockwork and you will be notified 60 days in advance. And remember, you have your highest leverage to negotiate (the move-in fee, etc.) before you sign the contract. So with Sunrise, the people are terrific. The prices are not. And in the end, it's a shame that a business that exists to provide care often comes across as caring more about the money.
