The Covid vaccine clinic hosted by North York General Hospital (NYGH) at the Newnham Campus was very well run. There is plenty of free parking out front and the gate keeper informs all patients to wait in the car until 15 minutes prior to appointment for sign in. There are 2 more security guards that confirm you are there for the vaccine and time reserved. Sign in is very fast, provide your health card and drivers licence and within 5 minutes of walk in, you are at the main gym that has the doctors providing the injection. They ask a few questions to ensure you have no underlying health issues before they administer the shot. You are then asked to wait 15 minutes to ensure no adverse reaction before you sign out with another friendly crew that confirms your health card, email and phone number for your digital confirmation and 2nd shot date/ time. Scam artists. I applied for a computer programming course, I dropped out after 1 week due to scheduling issues and returned the OSAP money. I received a notice more than a year later from OSAP stating that a grant that was given to me is going to turn into a loan. I didn't understand how this could happen since I returned all of the money I was given. I contacted Seneca financial aid office and the person Biju told me they had returned all of the money to OSAP as well and I need to contact NSLSC directly. So I did but was told that Seneca kept a portion of the money. I am now trying to contact Seneca again regarding this issue but they are ignoring my emails. My advice, avoid this school. I've taken courses from multiple schools and this was the most trouble I've ever experienced. read more

This college has pathetic service. We are trying to transfer credits from another college. Five courses transferred successfully and they are refusing others due to not having enough grading information. All courses had course outlines in the same format. Why some are accepted and others not on their whim is beyond me. I have had 3 children through numerous post-secondary institutions and this one is by far the most cold and unhelpful. read more

This review is for the postgraduate experience at Seneca. Seneca has one of the richest postgraduate diploma programs. Believe it or not, they have a large variety of these programs, and nowadays an undergraduate degree just doesn't cut it anymore. If you're looking for a postgraduate program, I would definitely say look at Seneca first to see if your field of interest is there, and look at what the courses are in the program. In my program, all but one of my courses was taught by industry professionals. A huge benefit of that is you get the practical experience in your courses, except they would likely be unstructured due to the inexperience of most instructors. Near the end of the program, you will also get representatives from other postgraduate programs provide their 5 minute speech on why you should continue studying at Seneca. A huge beef with many students in my program was the relative disconnect between the program and overall student life. Many of us just attended our classes and left simply after; there were no incentives for us to stay on campus, and many of us simply came to add something to our undergrad degrees. Overall...in terms of the postgrad experience, it's really what you make of it. The programs are small, you'll know everyone in class, and will make new friends. Just be prepared for relative disorganization in your courses and lack of structure. read more

Man! where to start? first I want ask what is the minimum requirement to work at Seneca? Anger Management? Being a short tempered psychos? Because if thats the requirements? Seneca has done a great JOB of finding these people to work for them. I know Toronto is a rude city generally, but I didn't think that this wonder quality would also ve a seneca professors and staff requirements. And most of the students are too fearful to stand-up for their own human rights. Most students assume nothing will happen so they do nothing. You know the say "Do nothing, say nothing, be nothing" is a great quote for how much BS seneca students are willing to take instead of standing up for their own rights! first semester, more than half of the students dropped out, because of being treated so badly. A girl from south of american that was here as a international student walked out of one the classes in tears, after one of the nut-case professors had treated her like sh*t, and after I stood-up for her, no other student stood up with me. And when I filed a full complain report with the dean they took my email and copy and paste it to everyone else at seneca, trying to make me look like a black-sheep. I was so close in contacting Ontario's college/university commissioners! This behaviors really gives international students an amazing first impression of how Canada is. As a domestic student its extremely difficult to study in a program that has a heavy emphasis on group work like BMT - Marketing. Seneca has a large amount of international students which is fine, except for the fact that most of them have horrible English proficiency. Since most of them can not effectively speak or write in English, 90% of the time I am carrying "group" assignments single handedly. Most of the group assignments are also heavily weighed because there is supposed to be multiple people working on the assignment. Its very frustrating and teachers are not accommodating for the students that have to deal with other students who simply can't speak or write in English for a college+ level. Its ridiculous, I wish they would bump up their proficiency level to be fair to students who have to carry these kids. Its unfair that I do 75-90% of the work for a term assignment weighed at 20% of my grade when we pay the same tuition. They get a good grade from riding off my back and putting in 15 mins of time and a grain of effort. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

Believe it or not, I chose to go to Seneca College over the University of Toronto. Crazy, huh? Well back in the day, Seneca was one of the only colleges to offer an International Business Administration program, something I was very interested in. It seemed like a sexy proposition at the time. Professors for the most part were mostly experienced industry professionals. Most also had a Master's degree as well. I had some of the best educators in my life at Seneca, whom I keep in contact with many years later. Very caring and always willing to offer professional advice. Seneca has a number of excellent transfer agreements with numerous universities around the world. A 3-year business diploma gave you third year entrance into a number of Ryerson's business programs. Spend two years at Ryerson and you've spent five years getting both a degree and a diploma. Not so bad. Most friends I went to school with who did not go on to university went on to work directly in the field they studied. The value of the college isn't simply in the education, it is in building the social network that allows you to succeed in life. Terrible customer service and rude professors. On my first day of english class, I had this chinese prof. He goes off tell us how we have to get good grades in this course and that he won't allow us to leave the class with anything lower than an A. Then continues saying that people that don't achieve a good grade or don't do their school work have a "mental disability" and that was aparently founded in Korea about this "illness". Everything went down hill from there. The professor then proceeded to tell the students "If you don't like me get out now and find a different professor. That way you will be happy and I will be happy also. I don't care. Either way I'm getting paid." He made us buy a photocopy of a book but of course he had to make another student photocopy it for the class. We stayed an extra 10 minutes just for him to talk about his book. He made us pay for it but I didn't. I just got up and dropped that class. I can't believe the kind of professors they have at Seneca. Customer Service? I had to get a a letter of attendance for a scholarship and they told me to come in two days and I did. I came back and they didn't have it and told me to come back. I came back and they still didn't have it. I had to come a week later to get the letter. read more

I love the way in which Seneca has stream lined their programs to allow students to get their diploma or degree without having to jump through loops. This is the primary reason I decided to choose Seneca, and starting next year you will be able to stay at Seneca and complete a degree from York University. Further more, Seneca is clean, modern, and easily accessible by transit. Lastly, for those of you who work full-time, Seneca allows you to still go to school at your convenience through their part-time streams. In terms of technology, the WiFi is reliable and stable, I like the fact that they have Apple Mac computers, it makes doing assignment easier. read more

An ok library to study in if you're close to the area and need a school kind of feel! Can get a little loud at times so bring ear plugs and/or headphones. Internet is available only to Seneca students, I believe. There is a caf downstairs - expensive but they do take credit and debit cards. There's sushi, burgers, wraps are DELICIOUS, sandwiches, salads (around 6 bucks for a big, pre-packaged salad with chicken). Parking is quite cheap - $5 bucks from the 8 am until 11pm. read more

Was a Graphic Design student. The professors taught me very well with regards to design principles. It's a rather smaller campus than Newnham, and therefore doesn't have that much space at times to sit or navigate around (especially the occupied washrooms). The cafeteria has greatly improved since last year when they introduced healthier options and a larger variety of food options. read more

Do not go for the CPA program. The last 2 semesters were terrible. I never got to take the professional option courses I want. There is an overflow of students who want to take the same course and yet the course availability for most courses is limited to 1 section at best. I kept taking 3 courses for 3 semesters because I'd be forced to take courses I didn't want to and had to settle with the continuing education/part-time options. I wish I'd settled for the CPD program and saved time and money. A terrible experience overall. I feel ripped off. read more

I echo a lot of the negative sentiments here - the administration staff is ATROCIOUS. Rude, brusque, and they even interrupt and hang up on you mid-sentence! I was hung up on from a very rude staff member from the Registration Office when I called in. They didn't even bother to answer my question thoroughly; they gave me generic answers, seemed to get impatient, and then just hung up. Wow. Who trains these employees? Their automated emails are also bunk. For e.g., they'll state that you're supposed to do XYZ, and when you do XYZ, it turns out that you were actually supposed to do ABC all along. Of course, you'll find out too late, since each office will transfer you to other departments several times before you get an answer (if you get one at all). This level of disorganization is especially shocking for a college. read more

I don't recommend this college to any of the International Students. I applied for this college in the beginning of January 2019 for BSCN Nursing-Collaborative (York/Seneca) I have been on top of this application from the moment I applied, I have been calling once a month and they have told me they still working for the Spring students.. until last month I called back again and they said that they were needing some information I asked them why they didn't notify me and they said that they sent me an email (which they didn't) so as was visiting Canada at the moment I went personally to drop all the paperwork requested with hard copy and also I sent the same information via email. I made sure nothing else was missing because I asked a guy named Michael he told me no everything looks fine. Now I just received a email saying: "I am sorry to inform you that we cannot offer you admission to Seneca College because the documents we received from you are incomplete. we will not be moving forward with this application". Now I wonder if they really bothered to let me know anything before taking this decision ? when I made sure to nothing was missing what they were asking. Do they sent me an email to let me know what was missing? no, so meaning that I wasted my Money and Time. It's been years and I still can't help but think back to Seneca College (Toronto) and how fucked up, power hungry and stupid the professors and administrator were. It really was exactly what you'd expect from modern state sanctioned post secondary education. Here's a story: Story time? Story time. Intimidation via position. Just because someone is sitting behind a fancy desk doesn't mean what they're saying makes any sense. Just because someone is called "professor" doesn't mean they are worth listening to. Personally, I can't force myself to listen to someone who I don't think knows what they are talking about.Remember the story I posted about my Alternative Dispute Resolution professor being dumb back in second semester? The one who seemed to think he was teaching kids. I met with my program co-ordinator after and told her I'd be dropping the course. She was surprised because no one had ever dropped a course that quickly. Being the patronizing person she was back then I felt it was a waste of time. She actually asked me if I knew what "visceral" meant in relation to my reaction. She pointed out many probably dislike her when she teaches that course. I responded by asking her if I had to remind her how important influence was to how one communicates. [Why would I want others to react to me the way I reacted to her?] She told me he probably wouldn't even remember my name and that I should forget about it. I said that his not remembering my name was part of the problem. She said I should trust her that he was a good teacher I said I really didn't know about that. She pleaded but I was pissed. She said it wouldn't be worth paying a second time for the course, I said it wasn't worth the headache or anxiety- I wasn't going to be held hostage for 300 bucks. She said I was a good student and many have already dropped out. All I could think was, "No duh I wonder why?" I told her I wasn't going to fail for "this guy's ego." and left after she got me to agree to attend that class for a month. I met with my Dad and Grandfather (both now dead) and asked them what to do. They said I had the power and I was going to have to take responsibility for whatever I did, and that choice was up to me. It was the correct advice. You can't offload your decisions which is what I would have done by just doing whatever they would have done. I sent her this letter later, after dropping the course. Remember, this is all after one class with the joker professor--this is how pissed I was; "Professor [coordinator] I have decided to drop LGL201DD from my schedule in order to take it at a future time. Almost everyone I've spoken to has agreed with you in saying I should simply stick it out, but no one has been able to offer a logical reason to do so. I have decided the cons of continuing to attend the class under Professor [dumb] far outweigh the pros. I have studied communication and techniques and models for interacting with other people before and in fact, I was personally mentored by a therapist and relationship expert [mentor] for years when I was growing up. I feel it would be insulting to my old teachers in this field for me to even pretend to be the pupil of a guy like [idiot] who, suffice it to say, is not currently in a position to teach me about how to communicate. Furthermore it would be hypocritical for me to expect to be addressed as an adult and then voluntarily put myself in a room controlled by a person who is not emotionally mature. This point alone is enough for me. After all, if I saw him speaking to anyone else, YOU for example, sternly for no reason (other than attention perhaps?) I would be equally as offended and embarrassed as a man. Without question I have met some of the best teachers and administrators I have ever encountered at Seneca which is why it's a shame I happened to get him this semester. While I believe you're correct in saying I will have to tolerate people I don't like (as I have many times, having been employed full-time before) I see no reason to do so when I don't have to. I don't envy you for having to work with him, but I am glad I do not. My sincerest thanks for your advice in this matter and of course for your time- If you read all this I would say you have invested more than enough! How ridiculous can a teacher get? You have to see it to believe it. Somehow this high school art teacher was able to convince the college to let him teach "technical skills for social media". (Fred Galang who taught SMD104, a continuing education course.) He taught html coding. Then he taught how to blog. The course was extremely simple at the technical level. But when I showed him my customization code for my assignment, he knew I was much better than him at coding. So he turned the course into an art course, and graded 100% on art and content. The course was called "technical skills". He graded 0% on technical skills. He did that on purpose to give me 0 point for my work. Then he criticized my art, my project name... anything but technical skills. But even in terms of art, he graded art on a double standard. My art was not that bad compared to the rest of the class (with only 6 students.) This was an extreme case of unfair grading. He used art to create an illusion that I could not pass the course. So I complained. I even had his written correspondences to prove that he did that on purpose. You thought the schools would take action against him. But no. This teacher made up tons of excuses. He even made up a story saying I breached academic integrity. I had to keep debunking his lies. No one cared to fire this guy. He was obviously lying. He singled me out and failed me on purpose. The course was called "technical skills", so it looked like I had no technical skills. But in fact it was taught by an artist who kept saying my art was bad. Then he lied and accused me of breach of academic integrity. That was the most frustrating part. It was a obvious case of teacher bullying student. But no matter how I complained, people didn't seem to care. People probably thought, "The teacher must be right. The student must be stupid." The following are actual things he wrote in his written correspondences: "For the most part, you failed because you exerted an intellectual superiority over your peers and your teacher." "My experience as an artist and a designer is the reason why I teach at Seneca" "Your past experience in programming is of no consequence to the underlying goals of SMD104. It is not a requirement in the course, nor is it stated in the college's course materials." "The course isn't a web or app development course but offers a basic understanding of social media sites like Tumblr and the basics of the Wordpress dashboard." "Anti-Aging Lane is a problematic name for your business angle as well. It doesn't makes sense at all and the same goes for the logo." "it's design is simply confusing. The same goes for your masthead / logo design." "According to the academic policy set forth by Seneca College, she should have been given a mark of 0 for breach of academic integrity." The course was called "technical skills for social media". His syllabus was on html coding and blogging. My art wasn't even that bad. I had never met an instructor this ridiculous. Not only was it a waste of money to take his course, but a lot of frustration. I wrote a lot of complaints because of this guy. It's a big waste of my time, and a lot of anger. read more

It really is quite upsetting to see that so many people rated Seneca so low after my experience with it. Seneca's just been so good to me. I took Accounting and Payroll (APP) for a diploma and am currently doing International Accounting and Finance (IAF) for a degree. People are bashing the lecturers and professors a lot but I've had really good ones for the most part. No university or college is going to be overflowing with professors that absolutely everyone loves. I found a lot of my lecturers had experience in the field in courses I took (ex: Taxation, Human Resources, Call Centres) and it really does help drive home certain points that you need to learn. The one knock on Seneca I'd have to say is that the lecturers they have for their core APP courses are god awful. They simply read from the textbook and expect you to memorize it with no hints to help you. For your APP courses, you're required to pay the CPA (Canadian Payroll Association) directly for their paperback 'textbooks' and you can't really buy them second hand because they aren't real textbooks, just notes bundled together. The CPA is mostly to blame for how poorly they run their courses because they hire lecturers for the APP courses, not Seneca. Then, their evaluation is 80% fill in the blank and multiple choice on their online servers. Outside of the APP core courses, I did enjoy almost all of the rest of my courses. So while I can't really recommend the APP program unless you're really into that style of testing, I can recommend the college as a whole. Something someone else mentioned is that since Seneca offers diplomas and degrees, you can VERY easily go from one to the other with very little difficulty. After I finished my diploma, I was able to take related credits from APP and use them for my IAF program, thus exempting me from ten courses. It's extremely easy, at least it was with my coordinator. I simply went through my APP program courses with him and he listed all the courses for IAF that I could be exempted from. Easy. One thing that Seneca does is keep their belief on teaching by application. Colleges in general do this, but even with Seneca's degree program, they do their best to keep the feel to that of their diploma (ie: learning by doing). This is one of their strong beliefs and it's really helped me, since the traditional university style of learning (ie: more about knowledge and understanding) simply isn't for me. I've been seeing a lot of people complaining about the administration staff but I haven't had a problem with them in three years at all. So I'm not sure what's going on there. Just pay your fees on time, pay attention to deadlines and you won't have a problem. You use your student card to pay for parking, check out books and pay for printing, all of which are easily done too. Campus is generally kept very clean by the staff that work there. Classrooms, the computer commons, library, washrooms and hallways are always kept very clean and tidy. They actually revamped their Wi-fi a few months ago and it's a lot more consistent now. Seneca college, provided you find a program that you'll like, is a great place to take your post-secondary education. They mostly concentrate on the business section, but they still have other programs so most anyone who wants to pursue college can find something they like. As far as their degree programs go, throw out that stigma that colleges are of a "lesser" education. It's simply not true. They still offer you your Degree of Commerce (in my case), which is just as good as one at a place like Laurier or Ryerson. Give them a chance because my experience there has been positive almost the entire time I've been there. read more

Building looks nice, and it seems like an innovative campus, but the campus tour was so rushed. Travelled for more than half an hour to get a 15-20 min tour of the whole place. I've been to other campus tours and this was by far the most rushed and least accommodating. They didn't even give enough time to allow prospective students to ask questions. Other universities and colleges give a mini powerpoint presentation to introduce their school, values, and most renown programs. They even offer refreshments! Hopefully Seneca can prepare better tours because other students have recommended this campus to me... So this was a disappointment and maybe it's a sign. Campus tour aside, it looks like it would be a good school for fashion and esthetician students, as they do have a clothing store and salon on campus. It seems to be more suitable to ppl who like the buzz. If you're looking for some place quieter to study and relax after class, it doesn't seem like the right campus for that. Good teachers and nice facilities but holy shit Seneca, you need to get your shit together. They've flat out not given me proper forms before and in the end I was punished for not handing them in in time. I've had missing classes, I've had mandatory classes that conflicted with other mandatory classes, and they wouldn't fit no matter what I did. I've had really important information just not given to me until way last minute. If you ever have a problem you need fixed don't even bother trying to phone them, you'll never get any help, I don't think there's been one single time I've tried phoning in that didn't end with me in tears from pure frustration. Going in person isn't much better, you get sent from place to place just running around the school like a maniac, but at least you'll eventually get the issue fixed. I know bureaucracy can be a pain in the ass, but I can say with complete confidence that Seneca is by far the worst I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. I'm going to take more school after I finish my course here, and there's a really good chance I'll switch schools just because I can't deal with how disorganized they are. read more

Just crap. How could a college function efficiently if the people there can't bother to answer questions about their own programs? I am writing based on my personal experience and towards mainly the Newnham campus. I completed the part time Practical Nursing Diploma Program at Seneca College in December 2011. Not only will I be graduating with the full time class in June 2012, I also received emails from past teachers and faculty congratulating me on a job well done. I am a single mother, working full time and the only free time I had were evenings and weekends. Seneca has a great practical nursing program along with many other great diploma/certificate programs through their continuing education calendar. Unlike many other community colleges, at Seneca you manage your courses around your schedule. The school has excellent staff with a passion for teaching and I always felt safe while on campus. For all those parents out there, it is never too late to fulfil your dreams and sooner than you think, you too will be praised for all of your hard work! Melissa read more
