The staff and instructors are nice, as long as you have the same Left-wing political ideological views as them, otherwise they call you "privileged" and other names that makes you feel lesser of a person than them.
I was in Arts so I cannot speak for other departments, but all Left wing Marxist indoctrination in Arts. Students claiming that they are "Marxists" and must bring back Socialism and Communism. Did these students not learn millions of people who died under Stalin's one party socialist regime or under Mao's Communist Party?
"Tell the truth, or at least don't lie", except that this school does not believe in "Truth". Everything is subjective and according to people's feelings. There is no difference between men and women, everything in Western society is built on patriarchy and we are all victims is basically what I have learned. And I thought China or North Korea was bad, guess the West is even worse. One student in my class claimed that 1 in 3 women get raped in Canada. I asked how she got this stat, and she didn't have an answer for it. Students make bold claims about how evil Western civilization is, and have no idea where these data came from or how people did the research. I thought these were university students?
I told one student that not all black people think the same and it's deeply racist to believe so and she went on about native people's oppression throughout history. Then I brought up Candace Owens and said "Look, here's an example of a black person's who's not democrat and doesn't believe that all black people should vote democrat". She then said "well that's not all black people, just one". Wasn't that my point? That not all black people think or vote the same? And it's ridiculous I have to explain to people, whenever I make a point, that I'm not stating ALL people of that group, since I do not know all 7.8 billion people on this planet. She's doing what people on the Left do when they lose an argument, trying to distract from the actual topic and say "well not ALL people..." Well, no shit I don't know all 7.8 billion people on this planet, and I don't get why I need to explain that, especially to these supposedly "high University intellectuals".
Another example, I had a conversation with someone about male/white privilege. He said because he is white, therefore he will be taken more seriously when speaking about racism. Okay first of all, that is an assumption, is there research on it? In fact, don't the Left love it when "oppressed groups" speak about their impression? So why is it more valid when a white person does it? Okay and even if let's say it is "more valid" when a white person speak about racism, well, I'm a woman of color so if I speak out against white privilege, is it more valid? Do I now have "female of color privilege"? We know Asians make more money in economic terms than whites in North America, so should we call this "Asian privilege"? It's deeply racist and utterly deadly to single out one group of people and to punish them collective with a "class based" guilt despite their individual innocence or experience (Look at the Kulaks in Russia as an example of the deadly consequences of collective guilt).
Another example at Ryerson: we were shown a picture of a pizza and a beer during diversity/unconscious bias training (which by the way, multiple studies show unconscious bias training DO NOT work and if anything, has the reverse effect, maybe because people do not like to be labeled "racists" when they are not). We were asked who is left out in this picture. I was so confused. Apparently, the correct answers are "vegans, people who do not like beer/pizza, people who are on low-carb diet, etc". The possibility is limitless. I was not sure the point of the activity. To say that no matter what we do in life, we will leave a group of people out? Well, that's pretty self evident because each individual is unique in their own ways and there is no one way to fulfill each 7.8 billion people on this planet. Is this what I paid $4k a semester to go to University to learn?
That's called "majority privilege", when the majority agrees with how a certain system works. It's also called democracy, we vote and build our system based on what satisfies the majority because there is no way to account for each individual on this planet. By the way, no one terms the coin "majority privilege" on campus, instead it is a game of race and gender no matter what level of analysis. Society is built to satisfy the majority. That is the whole point of a civilization, so that human beings can continue to reproduce and carry on the next generation. Is this such a complicated idea? Why does everything have to be about racism and sexism? Someone, on this planet, will be excluded no matter what. Egerton Ryerson will be will not be pleased if he were alive today to witness what Ryerson has become. read more
