Suspected Scam! Was sent an invoice for over $800 that said "Tuition Fees". Thought it was a deposit so paid it. Then the real invoice came with a break-down of fees including the actual Tuition Fee. Spent countless hours talking to people in different departments to discover that the first invoice was not for Tuition Fees but for Health-care Coverage even though I had opted out of this. Was also told that a hefty fee for International Students was applied even though I'm a citizen of Canada. Now I'm at their mercy to get my money back. I studied at georgebrown for IEN program, need my official transcript for 3rd party, which doesn't accept electronic documents. I called georgebrown for my transcript almost 30 times they don't know how to process my documents and they hanging phone on me, after waiting for hours on the phone for them to respond. absolutely horrible experience, from registering to funding department, and onto the teachers and program set up. it's a money grab that helps you get no where! teachers are unsupportive, if you do get a teacher that supportive they are shot down by the grumpy ones. GBC causes unnecessary stress to students by giving due dates that don't fall in line properly, when you don't follow these rules you are threaten to be de-registered. there is no such thing as equal opportunity but only catered to if you have money or make them look good. Funding tells you information that irrelevant and they will hold funding over lack of communication with the school. choose a PN course somewhere else! in clinical all the GBC students are stressed and miserable but not the other schools read more

My experience with GBC started in 2017, I did not read the reviews about it, but though its a great place for Hospitality Degree. I was an international student, so my tuition was about $20K per year plus all other amenities. The college has a lot of tools for you to become the best hospitality professional like infrastructure and learning materials. However some of the professors were really rude and racist towards international students, giving more opportunities to Canadian residents. While 25% of the professors were really nice and supportive though out the whole program. I can still remember names and courses that in my opinion people should NEVER take like CANADIAN LABOUR HISTORY - "Benjamin McCarthy" and be careful with that "professor": Andy Hickl-Szabo - a total racist which did dumped my project partner and me with a 2 month of hard preparations and studies. Thank you to the GBC services that are offered at the campus. The staff are really helpful and I highly recommend for students to use the career centre for help with job findings, resume, cover letters, interview skills, etc. they're quite helpful and Irene has helped me a lot :).. Thanks to her a got a job interview less than two weeks since she helped me clean up my résumé and pushed me to drop in my résumé in person. I'm really happy about that! The library is actually a noisy place to study depending what time of day you go. I suggest to go either on the 4th or 5th floor.. Much more quieter. read more

This really was a lot of wasted money for me. I'm a diligent study, and hardworking student. I'm a 45-year-old electrician and structural mechanic. The plc side of my job is in serious need of keeping up with modern equipment and its design and use. I have taken a job with the condition that my plc knowledge is growing. This is not the case. George Brown College did not achieve any degree help to me. I know next to nothing about nothing about plc actually. All they did was tell me about how a computer saves memory inside an actual processor, and the say, " okay, now draw a ladder logic circuit". Total frustration. I will receive very disappointed looks and treatment; it appears as if I haven't done anything that I said I would. I want my money back. The course is a total flop. Customer support has an attitude, and I'm just about fed up with trying to figure it out. read more

amazing school For me, I have the good and bad moments. Mostly good though and some great moments as well I attended GBC for one and half years. I took business program but didn't graduate it due to not liking it. There is one course I did like though, which was intro to business, the professor was amazing and she spoke a lot about how the industry works. I trusted her and I did well now, about the great things I experienced there. first, the tutoring center. I loved going there because the staff there was super friendly and I got a high mark in my English class due to their helpful suggestions and edits. I personally have severe mental disability as well as learning disability, they helped me every way they could, by offering me audiobook softwares as well extra time during tests. they did all they could for me lastly, lets talk about the free counselling. I loved it. My counsellor was carrie, I loved talking to her. she helped me from everything, from life to school. Took a baking course at George brown and the bought all the tools and uniform. Suddenly on the 3rd week the teacher said I was not allowed to continue with her class and I was being cut from the class. She later told registration that I was going to fail if I stayed and "recommended" me to withdraw. That was not the case and I was not given I was not given any option. I started here in September of this year (2015) and am a mature student. Being 35 without any further education outside highschool, this collage is very accommodating. I have a learning disability which has been a road block for me in the past. The school provides everything necessary to ensure success... As long as you complete your assignments, readings, and participate in class everyone will bend over backwards to help you understand the material. The culture is entirely student focussed. Lots of activities, free tutoring, free counselling if you need it, and two tim Horton's onsite. Best decision I ever made. read more

I'm always looking to learn something new. I began taking Culinary Art courses since January 2010 and I don't know why I didn't register earlier. I completed Culinary Arts I (as part of the Continuing Education Program) with Agnes, and I had a GREAT time!!! The instructors are very knowledgeable and they work in the industry. They are so helpful even though classes can fit as many as 24 people. They are always happy to answer questions. They are there to help you grow. If you are lucky, you will also meet some great people with the same interest as you. There are people who sign up that are in their 20s to 70s... It's amazing how food brings people together. These classes aren't just classes where you are given a recipe to follow. There are a lot of skill sets that you build on from week to week, class to class. You learn even more if you are experimental and try these recipes yourself when you are at home. I've begun Culinary Arts II classes already, and I still love it. They have become the highlight of my week. If that doesn't convince you, how about the fact that you can eat, play (cook), and eat some more. I take home enough food that will last about 3 days (if you are single). I think I'll be trying the Vegetarian or Chinese classes next. I also hear the Baking classes are quite amazing as well... If only I had all the time I wanted to learn everything to my heart's content. read more

I attended George Brown Chef School for three years, in two programs and although started out wondering if it was such a great idea to have chosen this school, ended up loving it. When I first started I thought it was a bit of a culinary student factory, I wondered how many of my fellow students had gotten in. But, once you get past the apathy of many of the students and you get involved, meet the teachers, it is a great place to make connections and learn a lot. The Chef School was overhauled as I was studying there, and is a beautiful space with state of the art kitchens and baking studios. The cafeteria is pretty terrible, so I'd recommend bringing a lunch or running over to St. Lawrence. Overall, a great learning experience. read more

One, it is incredibly easy to get to either by : A streetcar 504 right there or 501 then walk south a couple blocks B subway to king station then walk east Also. You have the chef college here where at lunchtime you can purchase the fresh food the school made that day for as little as 3-5 dollars Finally, in spring and summer the rooftop patio is great to sit at to relax. read more

The building can be confusing to navigate first but it's not so bad. The services they offer like tutoring and career service to student is good. Might be a bit of wait any time you want deal with registration. The cafe barely has any option and the line are long but its not probably when the st lawrence market and other places are near. I have taken several classes for their continuing education division: acting, dancing, and short story writing. I was impressed with all of their classes and would definitely take another course at this school. My dancing instructer was great: Jenn Lundigren is a professional modern dancer and her enthusiasm provided enought motivation for all of us to do well with our choreographed dance routine. Also, James Howard (an acting instructor) was great at explaining the technique that actors use to prepare for a role. He allowed us to experiment with different parts and prepped us to be more convincing and better performers. This school provides great practical instruction. read more

George Brown is a small local college offering courses in applied arts and technology. They've been around since 67 and have always managed a high level of education and are known for their cooking stream. I've been going here for about a month now for a night class and while I can't say I'm in love with the place, it's not bad. It feels like a smaller compact version of a university student building. There's an "express" style store for almost everything you'd expect at U of T or York. Tiny book store, tiny computer store, iddy-biddy magazine shop and so on. The facilities don't seem any better or worse than other campuses I've been to. Well lit break out rooms with comfy couches can be found everywhere. The elevators feature both up and down buttons? I don't know, it's a school. If you're looking for a refresher course in some basic office applications or you want to become a fully qualified chef then George Brown has you covered. You will actually learn quite a lot more than you would in a two-day seminar and pay a fraction of the cost. read more

Dealing with their financial department is the worst ever. They are scammers and idiots. They do everything in their power to take your money and not help you. I've never seen anything like that! This is supposed to be a reputable school but they are obviously NOT. I WOULD RECOMMEND to send your kids to another school. They are not honest and unhelpful and useless. I applied for an online course with George Brown , costs me around 300 USD , after a month of study i finished the course and asked for my certificate , they asked me to pay fees for it !!! i answered i only need a soft-copy through my email as i am living outside Canada ,even if i paid the requested fees OK i agree ... surprisingly they asked me to mail them an application request and pay the fees .. like we are living in the stone ages !!! ... after contacting each email in the college asks for any soft-copy certificate for the course i have finished and paid for ,it`s unfair to pay 150 USD for express mail just to send a request .At the end the final answer came that the course i have finished dose not have a certificate ...... What a lost of time and money i paid for this institute ... i really feel sorry i applied for this course and feel glad i didn`t attend any of its full programs. I really wanted to like this college but the services here and faculty need major improvement. The campus area is kind of small, and there is not much to do there, but if you're a casual student it'll be fine. But some of the teachers and faculty are rude and control freaks in business studies department. There are many international students here though and felt at home. read more

Brutal! They cancelled multiple courses that I had enrolled in (and paid for!) due to low enrollment. I was supposed to have completed my certificate a year ago and now have to wait another 6 months. If you are on a time constraint for obtaining a certificate, I do NOT recommend George Brown. Really unprofessional. read more

Culinary Management. I graduated a few years back. Worked in some of Torontos best restaurants. No thanks to George Brown. Don't get me wrong, the course was great for giving you a basic knowledge of all aspects of food. From cooking, to butchery, to pastry, to large quantity. But some of the "professors" are complete knobs (Failed chefs, ego maniacs, etc). Chefs that want you to plate the food exactly as it is in the book (and not allow creativity), to Chefs that are teaching you cultural food that is not even correct. Like stir fry in the "Japanese class" or having one of the chefs cook a Mexican chocolate mole sauce with milk chocolate. Freaking disgusting. Didn't help that there was chunks of chicken throughout the dish. If it wasn't for that, I would have guessed it was Nestles chocolate syrup. I didn't appreciate certain produce being left out, even though it was in our course manual as a require ingredient. We were supposed to use canned black truffles, and the chef didn't bring it to class, because he said he didn't like them. (Truth is, the school probably just wanted to pocket that extra cash). From a students perspective, even if the item is sub-par, at least we're exposed to it, and somewhat understand what the ingredient is about, regardless if its of low quality. As some one who was serious about this industry, it's crazy to see how many students pass the culinary programs. When they arrive into professional kitchens, it's as if they've never stepped into a culinary school. One course I really appreciated was the wine tasting. I really did learn a lot. And the professors were great. Same with the profession who is the head of the Italian program. He's the best instructor. A great professional. From a veteran of the culinary industry. Save your money and go stage in Europe, or go straight to work in a professional kitchen. If you show up to their front door, eager to work, they will hire you. You don't need a culinary degree. read more

Never ever attend or pay for a course at George Brown College. Waste of money. You get nothing for you money on Continuing Education course. If you sign up for a course and do not immediately with draw within 10 days they keep your money and will not offer any option for doing it the next term if you become too busy during that 4 month period. 10 days??? I didn't even receive the materials til 6 weeks after I signed up. Not even an option to just change my start and end date. $630 down the drain. You have to re register for the course ... and repay sir. Not likely. Part 2 of 2 courses. I received a+ in the first course. None of this matters. Repeat business doesn't matter. I am a working individual who needs to do night courses when I have time but paying the bills must come first. They are completely inflexible and do not cater to the working class. This school sucks. They have no support or help at ALL. I've tried asking for help questions about the business courses, and some of them give me attitude. Especially the people who work at the business registration office, when i ask questions, the sound of their tone of voice is very rude and when i ask them questions they sigh. I always end up leading towards them, i wish they had a better guidance specifically for the center of business. They are no help. read more
