Being a city dweller means that my wife and I look for good breakfast spots on the weekend on a pretty regular basis; we have certain favourites that we tend to visit on Saturdays, but, Sundays are wide open.
Since we've moved to the Paris end recently, we've been exploring some of our options for breakfast in this part of town - so far two establishments have caught our eye (and mouths): Sempre and The Mess Hall....I'll do a review of the latter later.
I don't know what the relationship is between the two restaurants, but, they are right next door to one another and the staff tends to wander back and forth. Indeed, meals seem to come from the kitchen in The Mess Hall for Sempre.
This was our first visit and it was spectacular. The cappuccino was perfect (would you expect anything less from an Italian restaurant?) - and the breakfasts themselves, WOW.
I went with the Italian sausage in red sauce with, erm, I forget the type of cheese...it was incredible. The sauce was one of the best I've had and my wife (who comes from a half-Italian family) was also extremely impressed.
My wife went for the ricotta pancakes which, I must say, were a very close second for my choice. She loved them, and the hint of citrus (orange zest?) which was contained within was a real hit. There were a lot of "mmmmmmm!" sounds from our table.
Another favourite of mine at Sempre (and Mess Hall) is their Chai Latte. Probably the very best I've had in Melbourne.
We've not visited for lunch/dinner, so we can't comment on those meals, but for a Sunday morning breakfast we were impressed and are most definitely going to be visiting again! read more
