She generously donated a color consult of her expert services which is such an asset when it comes to designers today. Because we all know Home Depot or Sherwin Williams or where ever you get your paint usually has harsh lighting. So the chocolate color, you thought you got at the store, might come home looking like poo. She has now relegated to Memphis, sadly - but that only means Tennessee is going to have the opportunity to take advantage of her wonderful skills. I've seen some chairs she's reupholstered and redesigned; her talent relegates in her attention to detail and really deriving personality into pieces that are truly unique. I've seen her work a pile of swatches better than an Asian lady in the garment district. "A chair is still a chair, even when no one is sitting there..." Even though, no one is sitting there - you have to make sure that and every other piece you acquire is truly fabulous. Jessie will make sure of that.

She worked with me well, listened to me and seemed to know what I would like and stayed within my budget. She was always very responsive in terms of communicating (phone, email, text messages). She also worked well with other contractors (tile installation, painting, etc.). She seems particularly good at creating and working with color schemes. I've had nothing but the highest compliments from friends and relatives who have visited. (One tip: as she works by the hour, it helps to do as much preparation as you can so that you can use her time as efficiently as possible. She told me that some people cannot make up their minds and that can add to the cost of her services.)

It's been open for almost three years. The storefront is rather small, but it's packed with color - there's furniture, lovely glass vases, handmade books, adorable toys, and reclaimed estate jewelry. The shop owner, Selena McAdams, is an interior designer, and all of the items inside Spruce have clearly been selected with great care and attention. I hesitate to call Spruce an interior design store, because it's much more than that. On my visit, I was totally taken with their selection of adorable and unconventional stuffed animals. I picked up a sea foam green latticework pendant necklace. It reminds me a bit of a lawn chair. So, a big thank you to the person who suggested that I check out Spruce. I'll definitely be stopping in again.

Personally, I found it to be three stars due to being a bit overpriced. A throw pillow filled with goose down, while beautiful and on my 'want' list, will remain on my 'want' list at over $200. Don't get me wrong, the place is worth a look -- and if money is no object, you'll find some pretties. They also carry pretty anthropologie-esque accessories, such as necklaces, bracelets, and a very sharp silver wristlet -- soft leather -- for $50. That wasn't so bad and I almost snatched it up. Other brands spotted were Terra Provence and Tatine candles, as well as Herve Gambs.
