I've always had a special appreciation for the architecture of Catholic churches, and the craftsmanship here is truly remarkable! The high vaulted ceilings, stained glass, and intricate details make it feel both grand and peaceful at the same time. Even though it sits right in the middle of the city, the moment you step inside there's a sense of calm that almost feels grounding. It can get busy but you can still find quiet moments to sit, reflect, or simply admire the beauty of the space.

I visited St. Patrick's for the first time last weekend. I didn't put two and two together to…read morerealize that I was visiting St. Patrick's Cathedral the weekend before St. Patrick's Day. Probably not the best day to visit, but since I'd already pre-paid for the self-guided audio tour, I decided to brave the crowds and go. I want to be clear - St. Patrick's is beautiful. But my three star review is really about the tour experience, and my experience may have been worse than it would have been on a less busy weekend. The self-guided audio tour is $20. You can do it on your phone or on an iPad they'll provide you at the cathedral. However, especially on a crowded day, the tour was confusing. There was weirdly no way to cross from the north side of the cathedral to the south side of the cathedral. You had to in the door on the north side to see that side and then back out and in the door on the south side of the cathedral to see that side. There were may roped off areas that were on the audio tour. Probably half of the stops on the audio tour were behind roped off areas - I didn't know if I was supposed to get access to them or not. The staff at the cathedral - who I'm sure were overwhelmed by the crowds (I was!) - weren't helpful. One security guard member of staff saw my confusion and tried to help me. He opened the ropes and let me over to the other side. He told me to ask someone to do that again when I was ready to see the other side of the cathedral. But when I asked, the response was a pretty unfriendly "you have to go outside and come back in." Maybe my experience was worse than usual because of my bad timing. But I can't recommend the audio tour. $20 for an audio tour on your phone - and one where half of the stops aren't accessible to you - is too much. I suggest popping in, looking around, and leaving them whatever is a reasonable donation to you. (Note: The reason I wanted to visit St. Patrick's Cathedral was to see the new mural in the cathedral's narthex. I had read about it in the Times and wanted to see it in person. The mural - painted by Brooklyn-based artist Adam Cvijanovic and titled "What's So Funny About Peace, Love, and Understanding" - is 25 feet tall and spans several walls. It features the 1879 Apparition at Knock, saints, and modern immigrant processions. It's beautiful and thought-provoking and definitely worth a visit. Pop in and drop a donation in the box.)

So three years back couple of folks got together and formed the association with a motto to set up a place of prayer for Sikhs in Manhattan. Though this is not a traditional gurudwara which is open all seven days of week, but they try to have gatherings(Diwans) thrice a month to have the prayer session. It is a very intimate gathering with less than 100 people unlike other big Gurudwaras. I really like the ambience of the place and it is a place which gives peace to my soul. I'm not sure where my other photos went but wanted to post a little about this temple…read more This seems like a hub for a lot of the locals and elders in the neighborhood. The woman that's always at the counter, with a very outgoing personality, seems to know everyone that walks in there! The times that I've gone in, I've noticed different folks cleaning up, adding more incense sticks to the holders, fixing the fruit and flowers, sweeping the floor, adding a bottle of beer to the statue praying area, LOL. I'm not sure if they are official members, I don't get the sense that they were working on that day, more like passing by. But it's nice to see this communal effort and comfortable in the space. It's mostly a Cantonese speaking crowd, but I heard another dialect spoken on a recent visit. The woman at the counter probably has working knowledge in Mandarin too. I am not an expert, but when I go, it's usually for the Chinese New Year & my fortune, or to pay respects to elders that have passed. Every little slot that you see at each offering area - that's where you make donation. At the front of the area, there is a table top pedestal filled with a little slips of yellow paper, individually bundled by a rubber band. Donate $1 and pick a fortune. The next 2 tables have candle flames, bundles of incense sticks. Take 3 incense and light them, take them & bow 3x's at the 3rd table & stick them into the pot of sand. At the back there's padded low benches for you to kneel, bow 3 times, and pay respect. Another slot under the statue to make a donation, which may benefit your future. There's containers of Guan Yin Sticks. You can take one and kneel back down in front of the statue. Gently shake it, hold with both hands, hold it at an angle and shake with a gentle chopping motion. A stick should fall out. You want 3 sticks to fall out individually, write down the number in the order that they fell out. That's your Guan Yin Lot, look up your fortune according to those numbers. If relates to your health, wealth, big transactions, relationships, energy (more or less), ability to make large decisions. The front part of the temple has a lot of boxes of souvenirs & gifts to dig through. Lots of bracelets, which are prettier than the tourist shops on Mott St. Cash Only! There's boxes of free books and the front windows are filled with different little statues, objects, and bodhisattva statues. I can't say that I am an expert, but this is the way I've experienced the temple. The last time that I went, the lady at the counter was talking really loudly with some folks, it was actually a little distracting while I was in the back. Overall, this is the temple in the area that I'm familiar with, and choose to go to.

The way Daoism or Taoism works is everything lives in harmony and balance. You know the Ying Yang symbol? That is part of Daoism, from what I understand. That things exist in harmony, man and woman, earth and water, your back with your front. Yin and yang are always opposite and equal qualities. When one reaches its peak, it will without fail begin to transform into the opposite: for example, when a seed is planted in the spring, it reaches its bloom in the summer (yang) and then produce more seeds and die in winter (yin). This is an endless cycle and it happens again and again. The way I see it, yin and yang means the opposites to me. In our world yin and yang exist together as parts of a mutual whole. This is Taoism to me, I think. So taking the stuff above.....if I write review that is good, the gods is going to smile at me...if I write a bad review.....I might as well say bye to everyone now! 5 stars for peace and harmony in my world!

The grounds are beautiful as well as inside the sanctuary. They feed the homeless and needy in the hall twice a week. The parishioners serve the food that is prepared on premises as far as I know. They also take collection each week of non-perishable items for the food bank. I've brought cereal and canned goods on many occasion. I'll never forget it: I was welcomed by an usher who gave me the kind of hug that said, "You're home now." No side-eyes, no judgment--just love, warmth, and a seat in a beautiful space where I could experience the service at my own pace (and catch my breath from walking through Times Square--because whew). The music? Absolutely incredible. The choir will have you praising, swaying, and maybe even forgetting you're wearing those new shoes that weren't made for dancing. It's joyful, powerful, and real--and you don't need to know the words to feel the Spirit. Services are held at 10 AM and 1 PM, so whether you're an early bird or the kind who needs that second cup of coffee (no judgment--I've been both), there's room for you. And yes--they even have discounted parking if you get your ticket stamped. Because even in New York, Jesus is still helping you save. From programs for children to ministries for adults, the church is full of life, love, and purpose. Everyone is treated with kindness and respect. It's a place where people grow, laugh, cry, heal--and worship together. So if you're looking for a church that feels like family, sounds like heaven, and welcomes you just as you are--come through. You just might leave with a full heart, a new friend, and a joyful song stuck in your head all week.
