You know how you think that you are in pretty decent shape because you cut back on diet soda or…read morestarted putting in some miles each week.....you really give yourself a reality check when taking the classes offered at Patriot. The classes are taught by really great, enthusiastic, non-judgmental instructors who genuinely care about you and your goals. It can be a little intimidating walking into any gym and even more for gyms that focus on traditional combat sports. I can without a doubt say that as soon as you walk in the door at Patriot - you are immediately treated like a teammate or close friend..... ....trying out a class on a free pass and don't have any hand wraps or gloves? Don't worry about it! You have a staff member giving you a new set of clean wraps and gloves. ....don't have any idea how to wrap your hands for protection? No problem! Your hands are getting more attention than they would at a day spa in Paris, France! ....not sure how to throw a jab or where to put your feet? You'll be shown proper technique and balance so you can move like Danny Terrio ....think you might have gotten yourself in too deep half way through the class because your body is sweating and shaking like James Brown circa 1967? You haven't gone too deep and have really great people around you who are encouraging without sounding fake about it Patriot Boxing in Mokena is a shock to the mega-gym industry that only knows their members by account number and their success by quarterly earnings. Get to Patriot and see what it's like to have your health and fitness goals take priority over closing a membership sale or getting new leads.

I've been waiting for a boxing gym to open up locally-- and I was so glad when I saw Patriot open…read moreits doors. The classes offered at Patriot give you an awesome workout and I really enjoy it. I had taken a boxing class at another gym, but it wasn't nearly as intense of a workout as the boxing classes offered here. The boxing classes aren't instructional boxing classes- they're more fitness boxing cardio with boxing elements in it. Any level of fitness can jump in the classes, and the classes are totally a mix of people. Guys who were seemingly super fit were sweating right along ladies in their 40s with weight loss goals. I'm almost 30 and trying to get back in shape. There were some younger girls and older guys, too. The people taking the class are always nice, too. None of the guys in the class have ever made me feel like I shouldn't be there. I will say this-- once the class starts, I'm so focused on getting through it myself that I kind of have tunnel-vision for myself. The other people are there, but I'm in my own head as I give it my all. Some instructors spend more time on the bag and doing different moves/combos than others, but there always is SOME bag time in the boxing classes and you usually have a decent mix of doing other circuits/exercises to get you in shape. You're moving non-stop and sweating the ENTIRE time. I liken the experience to getting on a roller coaster-- it's a little scary, you're nervous, not entirely sure what to expect, but once you get on it (or start the class) it's time to go. You can't get off (well, I suppose you could leave the class, but who would want to!?) and you just keep going. Before you know it, it's over. But it was awesome, worth it, and you can't wait to do it again. For actual boxers, they do offer sparring and some mma stuff where you actually box people if that's your thing. I don't really want my face messed up, so I stick to the classes with the bags. They offer open gym, though I've never needed to take advantage of it (classes multiple times a week take care of me). I imagine someone who is actually training to box would love it, though. They also do kick boxing, but I like to stick with just regular boxing. The instructors are super friendly, encouraging, and kind. If you can't do an exercise in the circuit, you can easily do a modified version without ridicule. They're offering more and more classes since they opened and seem to be open to community feedback to make sure they're a gym that can stay. I hope they do. I love it.

Mental health counselling…read more I had a not so good experience with this company last year. I really liked the counselor a lot. I asked her to read a story that I had written about mostly my life from 2021 to 2024. I thought it would help explain the way I communicate to certain people. I don't think she read it. So, I was talking about an email I sent to somebody, and all of a sudden, she became very judgmental to the point that I ended the session and never went back. I was trying to get away from being judged without knowledge of what might have made my email a little stronger than it needed to be. In plain English, I was really tired of being wrong all of the time. I filed for a divorce after 47 1/2 years of marriage partly because of that. Fast forward, a couple of weeks ago. I decided to try to do therapy at this company once more, because I had been going through a very difficult time in my life since late December. The intake form was clearly designed for physical therapy, and that was pretty frustrating. For instance, it asked me what part of my body needed physical therapy. It would not let me advance to the next page until I finally check the "head" box. Well, I finally agreed to a therapist, and a time. When I first talked to the therapist, I tried to explain what had happened last year. I pretty much begged her to please read my "story". I offered for her to read it on my time. She was having no part of it. I explained to her that I have finally healed with a lot of what was in that story, and I saw no reason for me to relive it. Some of it was very dark, and it took an awful lot of work to get past it. I won't elaborate in this, but suffice it to say, it was the darkest days of my 74 years. I knew it had happened but had absolutely no desire to revisit it. Well, we did it the way she demanded, and it affected me just the way I thought that it might. I emailed her how it made me feel, and I received a "canned email" back telling me that if I was having psychological issues call 988, and if I was having medical issues call 911. Gee thanks! Fast forward to yesterday (Monday April 20) I had made an appointment for 1PM Monday, and I simply got confused about it, and thought it was at 2PM like most all my appointments are due to my having trouble sleeping. I was sent two emails between 1PM and 1:20 PM, although I was nowhere my computer. I admitted it was my "bad". But after thinking about i was wondering why, that in that 20 minutes she couldn't have called the office and have them check up on me. I very much believe in the golden rule, and I can say without any reservation, that is what I would have done. I would have done that with anybody, not just a 75 year old man with very limited mobility. I am beginning to understand now why the about the only thing this country leads in now, is record debt, and minimal common sense.

Their concerns are your needs. From the cheerful "Hello"…read moreheard upon entry to the "have a great weekend" when you leave is real; they don't just say it, they mean it. My therapist pushes you to do your best and depending on your performance he'll push you to do just a litter bester. He doesn't just tell you what to do, he works with you, encouraging you to keep going. The therapists here are professional and help make therapy an appointment you look forward to.
