I've never eaten a donair in Canada before, but I've heard they're all the rage. I passed up the gourmet delicacy of Amy's across the street and wandered in here to see. Turns out, this is basically the same as Middle Eastern food in the States, just called donair instead of shwarma or what have you. The lamb was well spiced but a bit salty in full portion size - but the friendly owner will let you try any of the meats before deciding. You also have some say in the overall ingredients to your pita sandwich or platter, which is a nice touch. The platter overall was a nice size and food was generally well prepared - the salad was far better than most side salads you would get stateside. I tried a selection of desserts. The honey ball was a bit thick and tasted like it had been sitting out for awhile. The baklava was average. The harisse was the best of the three - full of honey or sugar syrup, sort of like a cake.
Overall, I've had better, but it's a good step above any chain and a nice addition to the Prince Albert food scene, so I'm happy to award a solid 4 stars. If you're stuck in a takeout or eating out routine, break it up and try this. read more
