Great place to go for a drink or two, but don't expect decent service or a good dining experience. It's got a nice, "Cheers"-like atmosphere if you are into that sort of small-town thing, but I rarely had a good eating experience there. The service is slow and not very friendly; the servers seem to not only be extremely rushed whether the place is busy or not, but they tend to forget things, they are quite grouchy and if it's a busy night, they will treat you as though you are an annoyance to them.
My partner and I went out one night for their Friday night Steak Night, which we used to attend almost all the time with varying results. The meal included steak, baked potato, Caesar salad, and one beer. I am not able to drink beer, so I asked if I could substitute a high ball instead and was told "no substitutions", so I ordered a Coke. My partner drank his beer, but had to send his plate back several times because half of his potato was raw. Mine was also raw, but after sending it back the second time I decided to just eat the half that was cooked. Our server explained that "something was wrong with our oven". After the third time, my partner decided to eat his half of the raw potato...because the rest of our food was getting cold while we waited.
When we got our bill, we were surprised to see how large it was. We were expecting maybe 10% would be taken off for the inconvenience of having to wait nearly an hour for a half-cooked potato, but that wasn't even close to what happened. I was charged full price for the meal even though I didn't have my beer, plus charged $4 for my nonrefillable pop (the beer was only 75 cents more). The server explained that when she said "no substitutions", she meant NOTHING could be substituted (I had assumed she meant only alcoholic drinks). I don't understand why they can't substitute a non-refillable pop in place of a beer, which saves them money in the long run. Not only did they not bother to discount us, we were charged $2 more per plate than we were used to. When we asked the server about that, her reply was that they had changed the prices a couple of months ago. The price was not listed anywhere else in the place. Since she had said that the "no substitutions" thing was made clear in the menu, we asked for a copy of the menu, and saw they were still asking $12.99 on the menu instead of the $14.99 we were charged. We asked why it hadn't been changed in the menu to reflect the new prices and she said, "You guys are actually the first people to notice that." We refused to pay that price, especially considering all the issues we had during our meal. The server left to speak to the manager, and came back and said she couldn't change the price for any reason. We asked to speak to the manager ourselves, and she left again..coming back and saying she took the extra $4 off our bill, but couldn't do any more than that. She told us that's what the manager said to do, and that he was too busy to come and speak with us.
The manager is the same business owner who told a veteran who had a service dog with him that he was not allowed to bring the dog into the restaurant with him, even though it was a clearly marked service dog and they had the papers to prove it. We are NEVER going back there again. read more
