The category of this restaurant should be "Destination Restaurant" or "Fine Dining". There is a…read morequality of restaurant to be found in Belgium that can't be found in the US (at least not at a comparable price.) We used to regularly frequent one in particular, until it got a Michelin star, which was good for them, but not as good for us as we could no longer afford to go there. Luckily we have found a replacement in the Fleur de Sel and I urge you to enjoy them before they too get a Michelin. I would say the quality of food at the Fleur de Sel is even better than our last favorite destination. Every plate is a beautiful work of art to the eye and a small symphony in the mouth. Within each course, every forkful is different, a variation on the theme. To keep with the theme of a symphony, this bite may have more violin, or that bite will have more brass, but each is a perfect harmony of flavor. We enjoyed a 6-course dinner with wine parings. Each wine was presented in both Flemish and English, with detail as to why it was the perfect pairing for the next course. The courses were presented with detailed introduction so we could enjoy the complexity of flavors we were experiencing. The experience was four hours of complete gastronomic bliss. I'll be looking forward to my next trip to Belgium to do it all again.

They had a kid's menu which featured one of my son's favorites, spaghetti Bolognese and of the 4 versions of this dish he ate over the course of this trip he and I both agreed this was the best. What can I say? My kid is a creature of habit. They also had apple juice and this made him happy as well. I seriously thought about getting a croque monsieur as I absolutely love them, but it was our last day in Belgium and I had yet to experience the famous Flemish beef stew so that is what I ordered. It was a large serving of beef in a delicious beer based au jus served with a side of fries. I really enjoyed it. Some pieces of beef were more tender than others, but isn't that how it always goes with a stew? My husband had their house mussels and he said the sauce was so good. Again, the portion was large and he really enjoyed his mussels in Brussels. Overall, it was a solid pick that satisfied our need to try signature Belgian dishes and our son's desire to stick with food he is familiar with. Prices were reasonable enough and portions were large. Every left happy and full.

It's hidden down a quiet courtyard, right in the middle of the city but completely away from the noise and bustle. Totally one of those "if you know, you know" kind of places. The atmosphere here is just magical -- rustic, romantic, and old-fashioned in the best way. Even though we were seated outside in chilly weather, it still felt cozy and inviting. You could tell this was one of those restaurants that lives and breathes its history. Now, the food -- We ordered the duck breast with red porto jus and gratin dauphinois, and the beef stew. The gratin was so good -- creamy, cheesy, and perfectly comforting. The duck, though, was a bit of a letdown -- quite tough and hard to chew, which was disappointing because the sauce was lovely. The beef stew, on the other hand, came out piping hot (just how I like it!) and was hearty and flavorful, though a tad on the sweet side for my taste. Still, it was delicious overall. Service was great -- friendly, attentive, and never hovering. Everything felt relaxed and unpretentious. Our bill came to just under $100 USD, which I thought was very reasonable for the quality, setting, and experience. If you're wandering around Antwerp and want to escape the crowds while enjoying a cozy, candlelit meal in a spot full of old-world charm, this is the place to go.
