Petting donkey

Lovely outing for the kids who could get up close and personal with donkeys, goats, a few sheep and chickens. Ducks waddling around, chance to feed the mini cows and zebra-donkey hybrids. Oh and do pet the tortoise - it looks like a stone statue but is very much alive Our kids loved the experience, and to be fair, the adults thought it was pretty fun too. Our boys, 5 and 7, were allowed to brush the animals by themselves, wandering around freely among the animals, and could sit on the biggest donkey (with supervision). Cost 40 for three adults and two kids. Supporting the cause of rescuing the animals. This is not a zoo or an amusement park, it's a farm. It gets dirty, probably quite hot and dusty in the summer, and you have to behave around the animals. Take the time to learn from the gracious hosts. The kids came home with great memories and a closer connection to the animals. Don't forget to buy a pack of farm fresh eggs - chicken, duck or even goose!

We loved the seein spots farm. It isa small farm where you get a tour and can feed some of the donkeys. We learned the names of the animals and all the animals were super friendly. We took our 1.5 year old and she really loved seeing the animals and even got to sit on a friendly donkey for a bit. It was $10 and well worth it for us to hang out with the animals. I would highly recommend. Linda and her husband were also super friendly.

I loved my tour! The donkeys were sweet and friendly. I've been twice now with different friends and everyone enjoyed it very much. You get to go in the corral and pet them and hug them. They also have a Zonkey and a Colossal Donkey. The people and owner are lovely, well informed and will gladly answer all questions. The owners rescue donkeys from kill pens, rehabilitate and care for these wonderful animals.

Brushing a cute baby mini donkey

We just had a wonderful time with Linda and her amazing eclectic mix of animals! I particularly loved the goose that only liked me (ok, he only likes men because his old owner was a single man!). But you can brush and pet a bunch of animals and feed others. She also has fresh eggs for sale. One dozen taken, thank you :) just call to make an appointment. It's about half an hour for $40 but you can stay brushing the mini goats etc. for as long as you like.

This place is so great! Brought some friends and their young kids (7yrs + 5yrs) and they had a blast. I love that it's so much more than just a petting zoo. You really get to learn about the animals and we spent a long time just hanging out with the donkeys and brushing them. Seeing the "Zonkeys" was really interesting too! I had no idea they even existed. Overall, the owners were very nice and the animals seemed very well cared for. 10/10 would go back again, even without kids!

My fiancé and I are huge animal lovers. We travel up to the Santa Ynez area a few times a year, and Seein' Spots Farm is always a must visit place for us. Linda is great! Her and her husband own this wonderful rescue farm, and they live there with their family. They rescue all sorts of animals; miniature donkeys, chickens, geese, pigs, goats, sheep, turkeys, ducks, horses, tortoises, dogs, cats, they even have a Zonkey! You can visit the farm for free, but if you want to go inside and mingle with all of the animals, a donation is required. Seeing all that Linda and her husband do for the animals in need, we never have a problem giving a little extra. My favorite animal is the fainting goat, he's so funny and adorable. My fiancé's favorite is of course, Bill, the gander. Bill lived with his single male owner for 14 years before his owner died and Linda adopted him. Bill only likes males, so ladies, don't try to pet Bill. ;) The farm is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am-4pm, and during the week by appointment only. If you're an animal lover, stop by and check this place out! You'll have so much fun with all of the animals. Also, the farm offers apple picking August-November!

Beautiful enclosure for farm animals!

A great rescue group and a must visit place at Solvang! I felt very fortunate to have an opportunity to visit Seein Spot last weekend. This rescue is run by a very caring family, and houses many abandoned farm animals like geese, chicken, pigs, donkeys and goats in a beautiful huge yard. We arrived at the farm in the afternoon and was greeted by the owner's daughter Hannah. She gave us a personal tour of the facility and told us stories of the animals who were rescued to the farm. The most touching stories were Bill the geese, whose owner passed away after being raised by his owner for 14 years and is now enjoying beautiful sunshine in the new farm. We are also very touched to hear the story of Zeor, who is a zebra donkey mix used as attraction in a petting zoo but his previous owner wanted to get rid of him when grew into an adult and deemed unsuitable in a petting zoo. From touring the facility and hearing Hannah's stories, you can really tell the this family are really compassionate people and believe in their causes. We gave them a generous donation as we think very often livestock animals were overlooked in their welfare. I am so happy to see these animals are well cared and loved by people. In addition, the facility is very safe and well kept. The one on one tour from the family that runs the farm really gives you an educational and unique perspective on these beautiful animals. Highly recommend and a must see in Solvang for all animal lovers!

Sweetest donkey!

Visited this farm this past weekend and it was a super fun experience! They had so many cute animals especially the donkeys which were all so friendly and soft. The thing that makes this farm even more special is the fact that's it's a rescue farm. The owner of the farm was friendly and informative of the animals. In order to go into the farm and actually touch the animals, you must pay a donation fee. However if you just want to look and take pictures outside, it is free. I loved meeting the zonkey (zebra and donkey hybrid) he was the sweetest thing and loves to be petted. He would even turn his body to the other side so we could pet both sides of his body. Overall a lovely Saturday afternoon spent at the farm.

Seein' Spots Farm is a unique and totally awesome place to visit if you live farm animals and animal rescue. Situated on a quiet road on the south side of Los Olivos, just north of Solvang, this farm is literally a haven of cuteness. With our out-of-town guests, who are animal rescuers and animal lovers (obviously), we made a spur-of-the-moment call to Seein' Spots Farm, while we were at Ostrichland. Good luck was with us, and we were invited to come by right away. 15 minutes later, we're there! The place is run entirely by a woman and her husband, and appears to be a few acres of large pens and enclosures, with several kinds of hoofstock and poultry, including a rare Mammoth Donkey" (yep, thats a thing) and, surprisingly, a "Zonkey", which is a hybrid Donkey/Zebra (see my attached pix! There were several different kinds of goats and sheep, some exotic pigs and several miniature horses and donkeys. The cutest was a baby donkey foal only a week or 2 old (pix attached), that Colleen (our friend) AND my wife, fell in love with. This is definitely a must-stop for adults and well-behaved children. The owner and her husband are very friendly, and when done visiting, a donation is greatly appreciated by them, as they do a lot of animal rescue, specializing in farm animals. Visitors are by appointment, and this place is very easy to find. There is a small parking lot that they direct you to, when you arrive.

After our stop at the Ballard Church, we continued down the road in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley to the miniature donkey farm. Once there, it was a short drive up a dirt road as we passed the donkeys hanging out together in a fenced corral. I will admit, I was excited as a kid to see them. Linda Marchi, who owns and oversees the farm with her husband Brett, breed and sell the donkeys. They also take in rescued and abandon donkeys as well as other farm animals. The mini donkeys are the sweetest, most affectionate animal that will steal your heart away. They love to be petted and want to be by your side. Horses, they can take you or leave you, but donkeys just crave attention. There's even a trained therapy donkey who visits area retirement homes. The farm also have turkey, geese, rabbits, ducks, inquisitive goats, a tortoise, and a potbellied pig named Princess. That's not all, in a nearby field is a zonkey (zebra/donkey breed) named Zeyore and a blind former Grand Canyon pack mule. Entering the donkey field requires a donation, which is greatly appreciated. Open from 10 AM. to 3 PM. Wednesday thru Sunday. My wife wanted to take a donkey home, but remembered she has a "Big Ass One" (Me) already!....just kidding, she says I'm really quite lovable.

Linda was very nice and informative about all her animals. She opened up for us on a non-operating day.

Rancho Burro Donkey Sanctuary

Without a doubt.....this place is Heaven on Earth. Events here come with being able to be around…read morethese beautiful animals; in and among their living space. Among the many donkeys that call this place home, are a few mules which are equally as gentle and friendly. Making the time to come visit such an organization as this, is a rare and unique experience that I highly recommend. The "paint with a donkey and have some wine" events are exceptional, will come with lunch and usually a live band while you channel your inner Picasso and paint.... you'll see. The staff are always very gracious and welcoming and quick to make sure guests learn what these animals are all about. Book an event- you won't be sorry, great value for a worthwhile experience.

A Big Dose Of Joy…read more.... My wife and I have always been big fans of farm animals. Cows, goats, horses, sheep. By and large, they're some of the sweetest beings on earth. Fortunately, we've got several sanctuaries nearby which provide much needed care for abandoned, abused and/or neglected animals. One such place is the Rancho Burro Donkey Sanctuary about 10-15 minutes northeast of the village part of Arroyo Grande. A group of 5 made arrangements with the owner, Jim Eckford, to tour the property and visit their residents during a late Thursday morning. Set in the foothills of the coast range amidst ranches and vineyards, Rancho Burro is a sight to behold. The grounds are gorgeous, facilities very well maintained and you feel as if civilization is far away...although, of course, it's actually nearby. Jim and his wife, Carlen, along with a few employees and several volunteers, make a home for 11 donkeys and 1 burro (a cross between a horse and donkey). Forget any negative myths you might have about donkeys. After giving you the "smell test", these guys and gals could not have been more friendly. During the hour we spent in their corral, Jim gave us a quick lesson in the history of each donkey and encouraged us to get up close and personal. Just like people, they all had a different personality. However, the common denominator was an undeniable sweetness. The sanctuary is a not-for-profit 501c(3) organization and relies on grants and donations. Besides private tours like our group of 5, they also host larger ones such as a girl scout troop scheduled for later that same day. If your heart appreciates a shot of pure joy, check out the Rancho Burro Donkey Sanctuary. You'll never consider donkeys in the same way.

Sam's Doggy Dude Ranch - My happy boy after a good run.

Sam's Doggy Dude Ranch

At first we were super stoked to find this ranch, where our dog could run and play with others. We…read morerescued our bull terrier mix last November from the local SB shelter. We set up a play date knowing we were unsure how he would do (not really knowing his history or past experiences). We visited the ranch on a few play dates before we decided to leave him there while we traveled for a week on vacation. The day play dates were perfect for our rescue dog. He'd come home tired and exhausted, not to mention well exercised. He was always excited to go back. We did learn, after our first play date- that he cannot be run with other dogs- as he gets too excited and starts to push his weight around, causing some annoyances for other dogs. That being said- the ranch was willing to work with him and stated they wouldn't run him in a group setting, yet instead run him in a horse pin up the road. We were stoked they were willing to make the extra effort and work with him. So the time came for us to leave him for a week while we traveled on vacation. We were out of cell range for the week, but had left phone numbers where we could be reached on a landline phone. Not once did we receive a phone call. The night before our return, we were able to find cell service and texted the ranch about what time we were planning on picking up our dog. At that time they stated he had been in a little scuffle, but it was nothing big, not to worry, and asked if we wanted them to bathe him (an extra $25), to which we said no. The next afternoon, we arrived at the ranch to find our poor pooch pretty scraped up. They had just finished running him so he was exhausted. We gathered his food and felt like they were rushing us out- stating they had other dogs to run. So we got in the car and headed home. It wasn't until we arrived home and bathed him that we saw the extent of his injuries. He had 2 big scrapes on his ear, 5 good sized scrapes across his forehead, 2 deep cuts on his nose, 2 puncture wounds in his neck, and all his paws were bloodied and his nails has been pulled away from his pads. Not only were his wounds much worse than we expected- but they were full of dirt and grime. I felt like they didn't even bother to clean him up after he sustained these wounds. When we asked about what went down while we were gone, the owner kept changing her story, that he was actually in 2 fights, and that he went after one of her ranch dogs (that he yanked the leash out of her hand and attacked her dog). Yet- at pick up, nothing was said about any other dog being injured, yet they made it very clear- that had our dog injured another dog- that we would be responsible for any vet bills. Yet here our dog was totally battered and scarred and not once did they offer to pay for his vet bills. Nor did they bother to tend to his wounds. It has now been 3 weeks since we picked up our dog from Sam's Doggy Dude Ranch, and he still doesn't have any hair on his scrapes, one of his puncture wounds on his neck is still healing, and I'm pretty sure his black nose will be scarred forever with 2 nice pink stripes from the cuts his sustained. His feet, pads and nails have healed nicely, as we soaked them in epson salts twice daily followed by using paw conditioning cream. They totally over-ran him up there EVERY SINGLE DAY! We had stated at drop off he didn't need to be run every day, as he's used to neighborhood walks and bike rides. Overall I feel the ranch was negligent in watching our dog. Any owner would be disappointed if they arrived to pick up their dog and saw him in this poor condition. I would have only given them one star, but I settled on 2 since the single day play dates seemed to work well for us. The ranch was willing to work with him, knowing he was a rescue and we didn't know his history. The staff at the ranch seemed nice and caring, so perhaps this incident was just a mishap. They did rip up our check, and didn't charge us for his week long stay, but I still feel they should have taken better care of our dog. Would I recommend this place to my friends? No. Would we ever return to Sam's Doggy Dude Ranch? No. And we're super sad about it too, because in the beginning we thought we had hit the jack pot.

AMAZING!!! Susie and Sam's Doggy Dude Ranch have been a life saver for us!…read more We bought a home in the Santa Barbara area and immediately after moving in, we found true love when we adopted a BEAUTIFUL shepherd from the County Animal Shelter. Our new dog was young, beautiful, athletic and a complete handful! When I say "handful" I mean really energetic and never able to be worn out! You really can't help who you fall in love with when you go to a shelter and for me, it was love at first sight! When we took our new (big) baby home; I promised to give her the best life ever! Yet... we had no farm... no sheep to herd... To compensate for lack of a big property and our dogs need for major exercise, we got our dog into extensive training courses with professional trainers and she learned the basics. After basic training we then began looking for dog 'activities' and fun for our NEVER ABLE TO BE EXHAUSTED doggy! That's how we came across the dude ranch! Simultaneously to adopting our dog, we started a major exterior remodel of our home that included days, weeks, MONTHS of workers going in and out of our home and also having numerous months with little or no backyard or fencing at all. Even though our yard is an ok size to have a dog, we had NO yard for her on an ongoing basis for weeks at a time and, with a dog that can easily run 35 miles per hour and run long distances... this just made our dog go nuts from pent up energy! We needed a place to take her occasionally and, that's how we began utilizing Sam's Doggy Dude Ranch regularly after finding other doggy 'camps' to be way too small or too impacted with dogs for our performance athlete! At Sam's Doggy Dude Ranch our dog had a HUGE, fully fenced enclosure where she could run and play and BE A DOG all day long!!! That was really key for me... the ranch gave my dog the "working dog ranch experience" that I wanted her to have despite our lack of a home with a ranch sized lot! This is a REAL working ranch so, that is what your dog will get here. Our dog is very SPOILED at home but, her true and instinctual dog-needs were to be outside and run at top speed, bark, jump and play! The first time I went to meet with Susie for a planned tour of her ranch, I just fell in love with the ranch property and Susie. Riding around on Susie's ATV with all the dogs was the best part of my day and a welcomed break from the office. Susie is friendly, fun and loves dogs so, I immediately felt comfortable with her and leaving my dog in her care. Susie and Sam's Doggy Dude ranch has been instrumental in 1) wearing out our dog that is filled with never ending energy 2) helping our dog making new dog friends and 3) helping us remodel our home, on an ongoing basis by providing play-day services for our dog. I have taken our dog to Sam's countless times and, it has by far, been the best money we have EVER spent on our dog. She always comes home exhausted and with a big smile!
