Simply the best pizzeria around! The atmosphere is relaxed…read moreand romantic while keeping the original Italian style to it. The pizza menu is diverse and hits everyones taste easily and has two different size option. Overall a gem of a place

So we arrived in Konstanz one evening and had no idea which place to have dinner in. A quick Yelp…read moresearch revealed Don Alfredo as a 5 stars Italian restaurant, worth checking out. We arrived there around 8.30 pm on a Friday evening and found the place to be very cozy and intimate, located in some sort of underground woody room. However, they had no free seats. The nice waitress told us they might get some free seats in half an hour, so we might just come back then. We left, thinking it will be for sure that we'll come across something at least as nice and we won't need to come back. We didn't. After half an hour we were there again, waiting to be seated. However, there were still no free seats and we had to cluster at a two people table all four of us and wait for another seat to get free. The people there were having lots of fun and the atmosphere seemed to be purely italian (probably that's as good as it gets for an Italian restaurant in Germany). Some of the customers, as well as the staff, were Italian, which is always a very good sign. We ended up waiting for another 20 minutes around, but it was well worth. I had the best pizza in my life there (pizza Parma). My boyfriend had veal steak with risotto (very good) and my other friends had Spinach pizza and pasta with sea food. Portions were huge, so we took the left overs with us. Oh, the tomato soup I had as a starter was one of the best I ever had.. and it only costed 4 euros :) Same is valid for the Tiramisu as a desert.. simply delicious. Add a bottle of wine to this meal of four and the bill was 95 euros. Used with Swiss prices, we found this to be extremely cheap, as well as the quality / price ratio to be super high. It's worth to say that the staff was always a bit confused. I assume they didn't speak German so well and English much less.. they forgot to add some extra toppings to our pizzas and often got parts of the order messed up (2 Espressos instead of one, different kind of wine than what we asked for etc.). However, our food and wine were so delicious that it was no point complaining.. they made us very happy, hence a well deserved 5 stars from me for this one!

While my initial contact with the waiter made me a bit nervous--he had clearly never heard of celiac--he did allow me to write down the German word for celiac on his notepad to show to the chef. The chef came out and reassured me that they were used to cooking for people with celiac, and that the dish I had ordered was indeed gluten free (all gluten free dishes are marked with "gf" on the menu, too). This was a nice gesture, as eating out as a celiac always involves a fair amount of worry. I ordered the gnocchi with cherry tomatoes, rucola, and parma ham. While I thought you could definitely tell the gnocchi themselves were gluten free--had a bit of a grainy feel/taste to them--the rest of the dish was so excellent and flavorful it more than made up for it. The service was also nice and friendly in other ways--since it was rather chilly, and we were sitting outside, a man (who I later recognize as Eugen himself from the website) brought us a couple of blankets and made sure we were comfortable. It's just a shame they don't open til the 1pm on Sundays--otherwise we would have been back the next day (I was already planning my lunch of a bunless burger with roasted potatoes!). Instead, it will have to wait for our next trip to the Bodensee!
