Thrift is a new addition to the Birmingham scene and they have really excelled with this new shop. Oldschool decoration and vintage furniture sit alongside both branded and unbranded pieces of vintage from the 70s,80s and 90s. From the minute we walked in the people working were so friendly and happy to help, they explained that they have only been here a couple of weeks so if you are in the area go and have a look for yourself, get involved and possibly meet that one off special item you didn't even know you were looking for.

Jack & Danny's looks and smells every inch a typical retro clothing store. The shop is so jammed packed with dressed, jackets, shoes and bags that their rails literally explode onto the street outside. This is literally floor to ceiling vintage heaven. You need strong arms and a whole lot of patience to push back the clothes and discover a gem, but if you take the time you'll hopefully find something you love. The ladies who work at Jack & Danny's are perfectly pleasant, but they're there to pick out the best fashion available, not to make idle chit chat (so if friendly service is what you're after - you're better off at The Yellow Shop). The staff are on the ball, and offer an alterations service if items on display don't fit you - but they can be a bit pushy at times. The shop's emphasis definitely seems to be on fancy dress over vintage, nowadays, whereas in the past (I think) it was the other way around.

They change from time to time, depending on the mood of the shop owner, but were sinister, nasty, horrifying models the last time I went. On the left there was a freakish monster, all guts and entrails, that looked like a cross between Frankenstein's monster and Predator. I found it worrying that kids weren't at all bothered by these terrifying objects while I needed medical attention. If you do make it inside, the shop is brilliant. Not going for such a mainstream audience, the costumes are original and novel here. The Wolf costume particularly impressed me. This is what costume shops should be, quirky and original with a dose of the weird.
