Slate is definitely one of those stores. I stopped in on Christmas Eve just to browse around and I wish I could have bought everything in the place! It is a pretty hipster little store, and everything inside would be both useful to have in your home and serve as a conversation starter with guests. The items are unique, interesting, and high quality. There are kitchen gadgets, bar cart fixings, home decor items, greeting cards, jewelry...the list goes on. It's a great store and fits well with the Church Street aesthetic.

Like all Winners and Homesense, it can be hit or miss but I've walked away with more hits than misses at this particular location. You'll find all sorts of unique items for your home if you like to decorate like I do. Recipe books, rugs, olive wood cutting boards, vanity mirrors, hand-blown glass vases from Poland, you'll find all of that here and much more. I think because this location is farther away from the city center, it seems to stock better stuff. Not a big deal. If you're on the metro, it is about 20 minutes from downtown, but keep your ear buds on or read a book and you'll be here in no time. Also, if you like picking up and collecting quality recipe books, this Homesense is the best place for it. I have picked up classics like the 2 volume boxed set of "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" by Julia Child, the classic of Italian cooking "The Silver Spoon", "The Gourmet Cookbook Vol. I and II", all of it in hardcover and for a fraction of what you would pay for them anywhere else. The Julia Child set I often see online for $60+. I picked it up here for $30. It's always worth stopping here and looking because stock changes all the time here and you'd be very surprised what you'll find.

My mother loves going into little shops and buying unique items. My mother and I stopped in and there was a variety of art and unique items in the shop. I seen this cool looking cooler that looked like a truck. I looked at the price tag and it was seven hundred dollars. This unique shop is not the cheapest and everything was very pricey, but everything is handmade by an artist because there are many artists in the Stowe, Vermont area. My mother ended up buying candles and couples of souvenirs. The store was a great experience to walk through and see a variety of art from different artists.
