I thought of this place as just a "pound"! I was wrong! From what I can tell from where I am looking in, they seem to take really good care of these animals and thank God for the volunteers that come and walk the dogs! When I dropped you off my Emmett now " Bodie" I met Ashley whom I believe does a lot of good work here... she seems lovely and seemed to really recognize Bodie and recognized the he looks like he's doing so well! So again what I thought was just the "pound" seems to be a lot more than that!! oh my God

Honestly they play too many games, had my wife there to meet the dog and because of the staff…read more"opinion" she couldn't take the dog because I wasn't able to meet it. Also they say "don't hold dogs, and first come first serve" but I was planning to show up first thing in the morning, yet they still wouldn't let me take the dog until the other family saw it as well from out of state, but remember they "don't hold animals". It seems as though They pin families up against each other in a "bidding war" pretty damn sadistic if you ask me. They also leave out major info about the animal and every reasonable question I had was met with "I'm not sure". I will not be giving my business to this establishment.

I'm surprised to see there aren't many recent reviews as I know this rescue places hundreds of…read moreanimals, so I will share our experience. This past August we lost our beloved cat of 16 years and we were devastated. My husband and I knew we needed a new friend soon as he was our only cat, the house was so lonely. I went to Petco in Wantagh to look at the kittens and ended up calling Mary, one of the volunteers to ask when I could meet one of them. I then found out he was spoken for but she arranged to meet me the next day at the actual shelter to show me all the other kittens and cats that were available. The next day we met and she took me on the tour. I picked a few to meet but then asked to specifically see the black cats as I think we skipped them, I'm not sure why (my last cat was black and I'm partial). When she opened 'Dukes' cage, he climbed right out onto me, instant love. I chose three to spend some time with in a more open space and Duke won me over. The next step was for my husband to meet him to seal the deal. That happened just a few days later as our application was being processed. The application is pretty standard, they want to make sure you can provide for your pet, have taken any previous pets to the vet, will ask for references (and definitely call them), and will for sure call your landlord if you're in an apartment. They will also do a FaceTime call to do a tour of your house / yard making sure you have screens on all windows for cats. When my husband met him, Duke did the same exact thing, he actually woke up from a nap, climbed over his brother, and out onto me. That was IT! He was ours. We wanted a vocal 'dog-cat' and we got exactly that! He fetches and brings us his toys, and NEVER stops talking, we love him so so much. An additional pro and con: pro, this is one of only a few rescues that allows young-ish kittens to be adopted alone, many will require you to take two so they are company for each other. My husband and I are experienced pet owners who work opposite shifts, Oliver (his new name), is rarely alone and we play with his constantly. We have taught him simple manners and to me this is more important than adopting more than you can handle or are allowed at any given time. Con: as we were leaving when we picked him up he began to vocalize once we got outside in the carrier. A volunteer we had never met / seen before (who had already asked us if we were taking his brother too), said smugly, 'he probably wants his brother'. This we did not need to hear. We live in a small apartment and are only allowed one cat per our landlord who is also our petsitter. We are very grateful and respectful of their rules, that comment was totally unnecessary. I could have removed a star for her comment but this organization does such great things, they don't deserve that for her ignorance. We have now had Oliver almost three months. Once we named him, we were given instructions on who and how to call to register his microchip, the instructions the woman gave me were so helpful. He fits into our home perfectly, and although we miss our old boy Maynard, he brings us tons of joy.

Letty reached out and told us about Ruby. She was a beaglier! We went to do a meet and greet and our girl Jade couldn't stop licking her. Letty save 2 lives that day. Animal Lifeline Corporation

Animal Lifeline Corporation, Inc. in Bellmore, NY is a non profit, tax exempt 501(c)3 animal…read morerescue incorporated in 1977 for the purpose of aiding the animals. Their mission is to save and home as many cats and dogs as possible. This an extraordinary animal rescue. I have been in the cat rescue circle for over 20 years and have worked with many rescues through my website, and volunteer for a local rescue. Over the years I have heard glowing reports about Animal Lifeline Corporation but never knew anyone there as they are on Long island and I am in Brooklyn. About a month ago the president of Animal Lifeline Corporatipn contacted me and asked if I would make them a web site which I agreed to do. (http://animal-lifeline-corp.com ) It was only then that I learned just how good they are. To begin with, they are one of the very few rescues that does not ask for an adoption fee. All they ask for is a donation of whatever you can afford. This is very unusual. Most rescues have high adoption fees. What this says to me is that the animals are more important than money, and the concern of Animal Lifeline is to find them good homes. They do not have a shelter and do not take in pets that people no longer want. They rescue strays from the streets and have several fosters who take care of them. Animal Lifeline Corp is very active with their TNR program. After trapping and vetting (which includes spay/neutering, checking for diseases, and other medical care) some ferals will always remain feral. These animals are returned to their original sites and fed and monitored. By curtailing the breeding cycles they greatly help to reduce the appalling number of strays killed in local shelters. I'd give this group 10 Stars if I could!
