I met a precious cuddle bug, Macie, who I fell in love with. Unfortunately, my family and I aren't ready for a furry family member at this time because we travel often. So I returned to ask about what type of food the cats eat to drop off a donation. Sadly, only one woman acknowledged me. Maybe the staff feels overwhelmed, sadden by the reality of a shelter. I volunteer so I understand and have patience but it was an uncomfortable experience. Imagine how speaking to potential adopters and educating some of the cats personalities, etc could help them find forever homes with good people. The cats are all beautiful and deserve affection and love! My donations will continue and I hope the staff can warm up to me!

Our family adopted a dog from one of NDLB's Chinese Sanctuaries in East Asia 7 months ago. I have…read morenothing but praise for all of the staff encountered throughout our adoption process, (which from start to finish took a little more than three months). NDLB is an incredible 501(c) (3) non-profit and their global mission of rescuing dogs and cats from immense suffering and complete abandonment, along with their exceptional care and concern for each survivor (no matter the gravity of each animal's injuries), is nothing short of outstanding. The dog we happened to adopt is a Japanese Akita Inu and happens to go by the name Romeo because he happened to be saved from slaughter on Valentine's Day (on February 14, 2020). The founder of NDLB , Jeff Beri, and his crew actually risked their lives twice to save our dog. Once (due to the strict Covid-19 Restrictions in China at that time and a second time to challenge the people who were about to slaughter him). I personally found all of the NDLB staff I interfaced with during the adoption process very personable and easy to connect with. More importantly, I found the staff demonstrated great care and concern for their animals throughout the adoption process. While waiting for Romeo's freedom flight to New York, we received multiple videos and photo's along with ongoing communication from the NDLB Chinese staff who were with him daily. The New York staff made sure I (along with my husband), understood all the possible challenges that came with adopting a dog from overseas and wanted to make sure we were up for this type of challenge. All I can say is Romeo has completely changed our family's life. Our family over the years has had three dogs. Romeo was our first overseas adoption, by far, he is the most considerate dog we have ever had the pleasure of owning, and is always looking out for our well-being. One last positive has been, over the past months, being able to maintain on going contact with Romeo's team in China, and being able to send photos and videos of him here having all sorts of fun in the USA. And as such I try and meet his needs with the same zeal and loyalty he gives to us. In my opinion having a good working relationship with my dogs' groomer is something to strive for. After all I'm trusting them with a family member. I have been getting my dog groomed here for over a year. I have used the same young lady for the entire time. She was always friendly and accommodating. She looked like she enjoyed her work and my dog seemed to like her. I made an appointment online for Saturday 9/26 9am. All of our appointments have been on Saturday mornings. On Friday 9/25 I received a call from her telling me that because of the expected Nor'Easter storm on Saturday, the salon "might" close. She offered me an appointment on Sunday. But, when I said I wouldn't be available until 12pm ...she said that she leaves early on Sundays. In desperation I asked her if I could keep the Saturday appointment, just in case the salon did in fact open? I specifically asked her, "you said might close or is it in fact going to be closed?" She told me no, it will be closed. With that, she canceled my appointment. Out of curiosity and because of the light rain, I called the grooming salon at 10am. I was surprised when someone picked up, told me they were open although depending on the circumstances may wrap up early. She said they were never expected to close. I spoke to the manger Louis and explained to him my disappointment. I do not understand why she would lie to me? He said some staff may have logistical issues coming to work however, that is no reason to lie to the customer. He could not explain her actions, apologized on her behalf and said she would be spoken to. Unfortunately this has broken the trust I placed in her and as a result, I will no longer be coming here for the grooming salon services. I have done shopping in the store itself and have always found the salespeople helpful and friendly. I will continue to shop here if I need something for my furbaby.

I visited The Mary Brennan Inn yesterday because my job was donating 30 turkeys, and the experience…read morehonestly touched my heart. When I first arrived, the staff didn't know why I was there yet, and they immediately offered me a meal in the dining hall. I thought that was incredibly sweet. It was humbling to see how many people were there, sad in one sense, but also comforting to know that places like this exist so no one has to go hungry. Everyone is truly welcome. I was then directed to the back parking area to enter through the staff and volunteer entrance for donations. Once I got to the kitchen, a few of the guys came out right away to help me unload the turkeys onto a cart so they could bring them inside and prepare them for Thanksgiving distribution. The entire staff was so kind, helpful, and warm. Their appreciation and the way they carry themselves honestly brought tears to my eyes. I was told the Inn has been around for many years, and seeing firsthand the work they do just reinforced how important places like this are, not only during the holidays, but every single day. I left feeling grateful that a resource like The Mary Brennan Inn exists for the community.
