The cabin itself is a neat idea--essentially a touch of luxury while camping in the forest. It's cozy and thoughtfully designed, and we liked the idea of being immersed in nature without fully roughing it. Unfortunately, the logistics around the stay were very challenging. We were told we would receive check-in details "on the day of the trip," which reasonably suggests sometime in the morning or early afternoon. By 2 p.m., we still hadn't received anything and had to call. We were then told the information would come at 3:30 p.m.--just 30 minutes before our 4 p.m. check-in. We explained that we were heading into an area with limited cell service and needed the information earlier so we would actually know where to go. That request was declined. The check-in details didn't arrive until 4:17 p.m.--after the check-in time--and even then, the message only included the cabin name and number, with no clear directions or usable address. When we asked for the address, we were sent a PDF with a map and a listed location. Entering that into GPS led us to a downtown area nowhere near the cabins. After reaching out again, we were given a different address by text. This inconsistency was extremely frustrating and resulted in wasted time driving around trying to find the place. We were told they were aware of the issue and working on fixing it, but it's hard to understand why clearer instructions weren't provided in the meantime. Once we finally arrived, the cabin was extremely overheated. We turned off the heat immediately, but the space never cooled down enough to be comfortable. Since it's in the woods, opening doors or windows wasn't really an option due to bugs, so it made for a very uncomfortable night. To make matters worse, there is a landline in the cabin intended for emergencies, but it rang at 4:20 a.m. We don't know who was calling. After we asked for the calls to stop, it rang again five minutes later. Needless to say, no one got much sleep. Overall, while the idea of the cabins is appealing, the execution--especially around communication and basic logistics--left a lot to be desired. For the price, this isn't an experience we would choose to repeat.

Did not realize it had several suites and that they do big events including weddings here. I loved it. Half my family lives in the Charlottesville area. I will be sure to be back several times! I have a big family too, so I will definitely make use of the other suites. Great location as I have family in Charlottesville, Stanardsville, Ruckersville, Rochelle, and Madison.

Early evening we walked in looking for the ice cream that had been advertised on the road and were seated in their dining room. It was just before the dinner rush so we had the room to ourselves and our waitress was incredibly attentive. We ordered based solely off of her recommendations and were not disappointed in the slightest! The ice cream was creamy and deserving of its awards. The sticky toffee pudding... I wish I had bought another to eat at home! For those with a sweet tooth, you have to stop by to try for yourself!

We had a wonderful relaxing stay, the views of the mountains were gorgeous! We like to get out in nature and the hiking trails nearby were awesome, White Oak Falls probably being my favorite. There were quite a few local wineries that were also a treat. The House was very comfortable, it rents by whole house or by room, and although we only rented a room, we got lucky and had the whole house to ourselves that weekend! The kitchen was nicer then my kitchen and such a pleasure to cook in. :) It was tastefully decorated, our bed super comfortable, we felt right at home. Grilled on the patio one night and enjoyed the sunset. It's nice to have a change of scenery! I plan of staying at the Hood House again, and would happily recommend it to others!

The House is situated at the foot of beautiful mountains, with spectacular views. There is a lovely en suite bedroom on the first floor, and 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms on the second floor. Each large room is beautifully decorated with vintage furniture. The living room and dining room are big enough to host a party, and the kitchen is ready for a chef. If you're attending a wedding at the nearby Early Mountain Vineyard, this is the perfect place to stay; roomy enough to accommodate an entire wedding party. Our guests loved the Hood House, and so will you. It is a real 'winner'.....

Several of the amenities were not available, the property was run down and dirty. After we arrived at the Glade cabin we walked down the property to see what it had to offer. We noticed our cabin did not have a washer and dryer in it as described and didn'tfind the communal area laundry to use. There was no map provided and no signage to guide what areas were private and for public use. We came upon the wood burning sauna and I gasped when i opened the door. It was run down, super rustic and it honestly reminded me of a crematorium. Next to that was the cool dip pool which was not in working order and not listed as that on the rental description. Several reviews seem like the pool hasnt been in use for a few years. We then walked up to the "castle" on a narrow foot bridge and at the top were what seemed to be two drunk men who claimed they lived there. They were blocking the walkway, and to get around them was awkward. They asked us how we found this place and why we were there. Something didn't sit right with that encounter, so we continued walking instead of going inside to see the communal area. We went back to our cabin and never used the rest of the property after that. It did not seem eco friendly either. The property seems to be in a constant state of construction that other things get overlooked and unkempt. The glade cabin was just ok. It was secluded which was a plus. It seemed clean however there was a strong musty smell throughout. No cleaning supplies offered. The cabin had an ant problem inside and a bee problem outside of the entry doors. Both doors were hard to lock from inside. The main door leading to the kitchen had quite a large gap between it and the frame causing an easy way for insects to get in. The keypad was also not working properly and had a constant noise coming from it which was annoying while trying to sleep. The furniture was old and not comfortable. It did have good wifi and was able to stream on the TV. The lightning was very dim inside, and although it had a lot of lights it was still dark. Im not sure how this property keeps getting good reviews, but i did find quite a few similar to mine. On TripAdvisor there is also mention of this being a nudist camp which was not mentioned in any of the rental descriptions. That, and the non working pool and sauna alone would have made me not book in the first place. Again misleading and unsettling. It is close to the national park which is why we originally chose this place. We spent as much time away from it as possible and only returned to sleep. We did not once see any employees or property managers. I would caution anyone to rethink booking here.

There's truly something for everyone, whether you're looking to relax or explore. We loved the dry sauna and the jacuzzi tub in our room, and spent our evenings cooking, sitting by the fire, and playing records. It was the perfect mix of cozy and fun. The property also has a hot tub, a cold plunge, and dry sauna and you can books massages, cooking classes and yoga classes on the property! So many other unique touches throughout -- you can really feel how much thought has gone into creating a serene and welcoming space. You can do as much or as little as you want here, and that flexibility makes it feel like your retreat. Can't recommend it enough. I am already dreaming about our next stay later this year!
