Can't recommend. On or about 2/22/22, I had a disturbing phone call with Lynn (spelling?),Office Manager. The phone call was so abominable, that I took notes on the call immediately after the call ended,so even though I'm only getting to the review now,I attest to its accuracy.Siobhan M's review below dated 11/9/15, also complains about the Office Manager. So with mine, now there's 2 complaints. Is this evidence of a pattern? These are only the complaints we know of,could there be more?I advised Lynn:I was seeking preventative care only with no interest in cosmetic dentistry,I currently have a dentist but I want a new dentist and possibly want to transition over to Dr. Sebastian(S); & I'm calling for a consultation appt.My impression was that Lynn's goals were to discourage my interest in pursuing an appt and wanting to encourage me to end the call.Lynn reacted strongly to the word "transition" saying close to these words - If you're not sure you want to make Dr. S your dentist, we can't see you.We see people who know they want her as their dentist and are ready to adopt her completely as their dentist. We are scheduling appts over a year in advance.A terrible response.I could've ended the call right here but decided to press on.I asked for clarification, that I now,at the very time of this phone call, must commit to making Dr. S my long term dentist?I'm required to make that decision right now on the phone before seeing her?Lynn didn't answer but seemed to continue to discourage me by then saying the office is never open for the full 5 days/week.(I asked myself why would this need to be said, if I'm not going to be seen for a year anyway?)Decided to press on, I said ok.I asked what the 1st visit entailed. I was told a cleaning, exam, & full mouth x rays and I'm required to tell her now on this phone call that I consent to pay out of pocket at the 1st appt for a CT scan ($400) & for a model of my teeth ($125),which Dr. S will likely want to get done,at her sole discretion. I was told insurance doesn't pay for either.Lynn then said she was busy now, & would call me back later. She added that maybe I could be seen sooner than in 1 year.Isn't that odd and strange?I'm told early in the phone call that appts are scheduled a year in advance but now,for some unknown reason,I'm mysteriously told later in the same phone call that it may be possible to be seen sooner?Lynn asked for my date of birth which I found peculiar, presumably to verify my insurance. This request was made without my completed application & without a reason provided, & she has to get back to me anyway. She called back, waived the cleaning (I had one 2 days ago) & an appt was set for the next week.I asked for the CT scan and tooth model to be waived, stating my teeth are in excellent condition,I get cleanings 5-6x/year,I'm knowledgeable about my teeth and care & don't need training, education or info about my teeth such as what a CT scan (which carries risks) and a tooth model may offer and I have no need for cosmetic dentistry.Lynn reiterated that if the dentist wants these items,I must comply, and I have no role whatsoever in this decision. I asked if after the exam and consult,I decided that I don't need them, why can't I withhold my consent & end the appt? Lynn's exact response: "You are now dictating what you will do.We will not see you and the appointment is canceled".Is "shenanigans" a reasonable word to describe what I endured?Does Lynn's approach coincide with the way the dentist wants her to screen patients or is Lynn overstepping her authority? It seems to me, that Dr. S is guaranteed a handsome profit for a consultation that costs $525.00 plus insurance.Maybe more out of pocket patient expenses after the CT scan and tooth model is assessed cuz Dr. S, not you, dictates your care.It seems to me, it doesn't matter if the patient never returns, because an exorbitant profit seems surely banked.Their expensive machines can help with quality care which is why I contacted them.It was not because of the Best Dentist awards which may use little objective criteria but no patients' opinions and only relies on unknown, unverifiable criteria.Perhaps the $525.00 from each patient is helping to pay off loans on these machines or cover their upkeep, which I don't want to pay for.Do you?"Patient Centered Care" can be defined as "Providing care that is respectful of and responsive to individual patient preferences, needs, and values and ensuring that patient values guide all clinical decisions."As per the traditional "medical model" of health care, it seems the role of the patient in this office is to simply comply with Dr. S.I prefer to have a say in my treatment, don't you?Or the required CT scan and tooth model may be due to a disturbing trend in health care termed "defensive medicine" which refers to medical pros requiring unnecessary tests, or lab work, primarily out of fear of being sued by their patients & not for reasonable, diagnostic or treatment purposes. read more
