I'll admit, after reading the preceeding two reviews, I was a bit concerned about going here. But…read moreas this is the only central-ish pool with a hydropool that's *open* (Adelaide Aquatic's is closed for renovations), I bit the bullet and with my two companions, braved the cold Friday night to venture forth to swim. I was delighted and surprised by how good this place is. There is no reek of chlorine; the pools are all clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. The non-slip floor covering is great for those who have trouble walking, and the disabled facilities are plentiful and spacious. Everything was very clean and tidy, and there were swimming supplies--noodles, rings, aids--for those who wanted to use them. The hydropool was, in short, terrific. The water was deliciously warm and not too deep, deep enough to swim but not to dive into. All in all, a very pleasant experience and this will certainly be my pool of choice during the winter and colder evenings. My only gripe is that it's not open later on a Friday night, but that's a very small thing.

I agree with Chloe on this one, it's not worth the entry cost. The Thebby pool is my closest place…read moreto swim, but I've gone here twice and am not going back. Initially, the lady at the desk mistook me for one of the local students, who get in a a heavily discounted entry for $3. However, the next time I went, they charged me the standard concession, which is around $6. Pay the same and get into the Adelaide pool - it's a lot nice, a LOT cleaner and the children are contained to the paddling pool. Overall, the Thebby pool and change-rooms are old and not very clean, and it's always busy with school groups and mums with toddlers. I've always been able to get a lap lane, but had to vacate after a while for a school group, or share the pool with a lot of splashing.

Surprisingly, the Unley Pool isn't actually in Unley. You'll find it in Ethel Street in…read moreForestville, off Leader Street between Goodwood Road and the Anzac Highway. It is great space with one large lap pool and two small pools for toddlers both undercover. The grassed area is mostly covered with those large shade clothes and on a hot weekend, you can't see the grass for the multitude of brightly coloured beach towels. It has adequate toilets and a small cafe counter where you can purchase ice creams and a few other things to eat and drink. It doesn't compare to Burnside Pool in terms of pool options, shade and facilities however the Unley Pool is extremely popular and a great place to meet friends. They were the winner of the 2010 Recreation South Australia Aquatic Facility of the Year award. Best to check their website for opening hours as it changes according to the season. Casual entry for adults is $6 and school age children $f4.80. Children to 2 to 5 are $2.50 and under 1s are free.

You'll need to go 70x to 'break even.' For those of us who go 3 or less times per week, the flexibility of paying each time (adult: $6) is a better option. Although if you do commit to a season pass, the plus side is that you might find yourself to be a little less bistro and a little more Thorpedio by the end of the season... Don't (DON'T) forget the sun gear, easy place to get a horrible burn. Adequate parking and located adjacent to the Goodwood train station. Also only a 5min walk from tram stop #4 (Forestville). Disabled lifter for all pools. They host an annual 24hr relay swim to raise money for MS in Feb, which is worth checking out. On super hot summer days (over 37°) the centre may stay open a little longer, check with staff on the day. Reduced opening hours in May and closed during winter.

This review will no doubt be close to my heart as my babies learned to swim like sharks at Balyana…read morePool. There are about 4-5 swimming schools conducted here over the week, ranging from Susan Klus, Panorama Swim School and baby dedicated swim schools with the likes of Ezy-Swim Swimming School and Judy Carboncini Swim School. When I first started my kids, we opted for Panorama Swim School only to realise that the boys weren't developing their swimming strokes. Downside of Panorama Swim School is they introduced floaties for the kids and they seem to be using them forever, even after 3 terms here. Not seeing any progress, I pulled the boys out and upon a friends' recommendation, went for Susan Klus. We never looked back sinced. Jurgen and Susan run this wonderful swimming classes at Balyana and in absence of floaties, they emply good swimming teachers and coaches and I am very proud to announce the boys can now swim without me hovering over them like an eagle, staring at their every movement. Jurgen and Susan also train swimmers in the national swimming league..if you ever need any tips or direction on swimming matters, diving etc, talk to Jurgen. As all swimming classes, choose one where the teachers will work for you and develop a good coaching relationship for your child. The pool is also popular for nearby Clapham Primary School summer swimming classes and the disability community who attends therapy classes here.

About time SA had an Olympic sized pool! The impressive and unusual structure from the outside is…read morejust as great on the inside with an airy, spacious, clean and still with a whiff of newness environment. The complex contains many areas such as a health club, creche, shop, etc and the pool itself runs various programs and activities to suit all ages. If this is your thing and you enjoy keeping fit plus live close by then membership is probably the way to go and save some money. Families can join also but be aware the water slides are not included and will cost two dollars to go on each time, so this is one part which will add up quickly! Otherwise, the casual entry fee is reasonable for a brand new complex and if you won't be an active participant there is a $2.50 spectator entry fee. All in all a great complex operated by the YMCA. P.S Despite it being new and all, it is not immune to renegade bandaids, so if you're a bit squeamish best to wear thongs!

This is the very definition of a swimming centre, far above a simple community pool…read more It consists of multiple areas with multiple pools. Suitable for families, classes, individuals. As an indoor heated pool no time of year can you use the excuse it's 'too cold'. Slides and playgrounds are targets for children and young families, and there are slow and medium lap lanes for those wanting gentle fitness. There are also dive pools though they were not dared by the cowardly reviewer. The cafe at the front serve a selection if foods more than suitable for lunch at competitive prices, though the coffee is not something I'd get a second time. Plenty of yellow shirted lifesavers patrol giving you a sense that they take your safety seriously.
