First of all, I'm paying much less than my old guy because I'm not paying Manhattan prices! I worked with Rhonda Cohen on preparing two years of taxes which I was very late on. Because I'm based in Manhattan, I wasn't able to visit their office in person. Rhonda was very helpful in talking to me over the phone and we pretty much took care of everything by email/regular mail. I explained to her that the IRS gave me a pretty tough deadline, and she really worked hard to make sure I was able to file by that date. I'm so grateful I found these guys! I am such a scatter brain when it comes to this sort of thing, and they helped me to feel like I really knew what was going on and how to stay on top of things.

My…read moremain questions was regarding our estimated taxes since we were potentially selling multiple rental properties. We had a nice meeting with basic advice, and she stated it would be a couple of months before she had any numbers for me since she was currently working on quarterly taxes. We had a few email exchanges with Melissa over the next months and a phone call but never received any numbers. This year around March, my husband reached back out to them to do our yearly taxes. Melissa emailed us a few times answering some questions. For the past month, my husband and I have been uploading our tax documents into their platform without anyone from the office asking us penitent questions needed to complete our return. We still didn't know how much we were going to owe so we put our information into Turbotax to see an estimate and to make sure we were sending them everything they needed. A week before taxes were due, we asked them directly if they were going to have our taxes completed because we hadn't heard from anyone nor been asked anything about our different tax situations. We told them in the email that if they were unable to file in time, we could use Turbotax so we didn't receive a penalty but we wanted them to file them. I also told Elizabeth that it looked like we were going to owe a lot more than we expected next year because we failed to meet an exemption that we were unaware of before selling our home. I told her that I would have expected that to be something she told me during our first meeting because it makes a huge financial difference. Instead, of calling me to discuss the matter, Elizabeth sends us an email six days before taxes are due telling me that she is discontinuing our relationship because I questioned her integrity. She was also offended we had used Turbotax. The entire situation was unprofessional and immature.
