WOW, what a great day…read more We did a half day fishing charter with Richard (which ended up being like 5.5 hours). Richard was a great captain. The boat was clean and well equipped. Richard took us out there where the fish were. He warned us in advance that the fishing had been a little slow, but much to our surprise we have a really great day with lots of fish. We caught about 15 sharks, 10 blue fish, a few trout and a black cod. Richard did a beautiful job of cleaning the fish and telling us how to best prepare it. I would highly recommend Richard and Tallboy Charters. I hope to be back there soon and will again be out with Richard fishing.

My husband & I planned an anniversary trip to Beaufort and stayed at the Best Western across from the park because we thought it would be lovely to walk by the water at night. After dinner, we walked down to the park and were very surprised by a tall, chain link fence in front of the entire walkway saying no one was permitted! Not to mention the homeless people all over the benches in the very poorly lit area. To add to it, there is a lot of road work being done on many of the streets here and there are large fences also blocking entire roads off. And the smell of trash is strong while walking around the area. Like so many small towns that used to be nice, looks like politicians have ruined this one too.

He took us to a close shipwreck a little over a mile off shore. We started fising immediately. There were plenty of poles and bail. Capt George helped with baiting hooks, showing us where to cast and removing fish from the hooks. His knowledge of the local fish was extraordinary. We kept many fish and our captain told us which were the best for eating. He put up with our inexperienced group member and help here with everything. When we returned to the dock, Capt George cleaned our fish and gave us suggestions for cooking our catch. I've been on other fishing excursions but this was the best by far. We stopped at a number of locations fishing the grasses for Red Fish. When the location didn't pan out or after we caught one or two, we moved on to the next location. Overall, we reeled in 10 Red Fish, most too large to keep! But we did have two that were within size limits. Captain Mattson cleaned the fish for us and even provided some cooking tips. We cooked the fish on the grill and it was fantastic. Mattson Charters is definitely the way to go. We'll book all our trips with Mattson Charter Service from now on.

They have vacation rentals ranging from condo's to houses with 1-8 bedrooms. It's a nice variety of places to choose on the island to stay. Fripp Island is a private secluded area. You do have to go though a security check point to enter. If you fish, play golf, tennis, or just want relaxation, this is the place to come. It's definitely a lot different from Myrtle Beach. There are 3,000 acres of natural beauty. The island is designated as a Wildlife Sanctuary. There are tons of wildlife on the island. There are 175 different species of birds, deer and alligators also. The deer are running free on the island. Some of them will even come up to you but they recommend not feeding them. You will need an amenity card to enjoy your vacation. The card gives you privileges for dining, golf, golf cart rental, swimming pools, tennis courts, bicycles, mopeds, kayaks and canoes. If you book your trip directly through Fripp Island, they will include the card. My favorite restaurant there is Bonita Boathouse at the marina. It's got some amazing seafood. There's also a great ice cream shop on the island. I recommend you bring your own groceries. The nearest grocery store is about 20 minutes away in Beaufort. Several movies have been filmed on Fripp Island: Scenes from Prince of Tides, The Jungle Book, and Forrest Gump. Beautiful scenery. In the summer they also offer a special kids camp. Bring your lounge chairs and come on and try this place out! It's great for a little Rest and Relaxation.
