My husband and I planned a weekend getaway as a mental health break from my stage 4 cancer diagnosis. We booked a ride for mothers day morning at 10 am. We chose this activity over doing handrail carts through the redwoods. In hindsight i wish we had booked that instead. My first red flag should have been when I texted him a week later and asked a question about the ride and instead of just scrolling up to see our conversation, he had no clue who I was or when I was booked. This was even though I had already paid a $150 deposit through PayPal. The deposit he told me I needed to send it as friends and family so that they wouldn't hold it for 28 days. I'm now realizing it's so i can't get a refund through PayPal when you do it this way. I have currently filed a dispute with my bank as services were not rendered. He told me that he now had booked me on his calendar. I'm not sure why he didn't book me on the calendar when I first paid the deposit fee. I texted the morning before our ride to confirm (all of our communication was only through text). He texted me back that evening and let me know that there was a part he needed to be able to tow his horse, which wouldn't be arriving in time. He wanted us to come to him, which was 2 hours from us, and we had plans where we were after, so that was not possible. He also offered for us to reschedule, but we were leaving that afternoon and do not live close enough to schedule for another day. I asked to just cancel and get a refund of my deposit. He told me that it's expensive to feed 11 horses these days and that with his truck not working, he can't make money, so it would be a few days before he can get me a refund. Keep in mind that I have proof of all of this communication in text. While not happy about the fact that not only were my mothers day plans on my cancer-cation were ruined without enough time for us to schedule something else (handrails were sold out) and that I wouldn't get my money back right away, sure I understand times are hard I can wait a little bit for my refund. I have texted him once a week for 4 weeks ever since. First, he kept telling me that he still didn't have the part for his truck and couldn't work to make money. He has now stopped responding, so I filed a dispute with my bank as the services were not rendered, and I have full proof of this in my phone. After not receiving a refund and looking up reviews I see this seems to be a common theme and the responses he leaves are abhorrent from someone trying to run a business. This man is not licensed in the state of California to take out horse trail rides. He has had his horses taken away once already and someone offered him new ones out of pity. His horses are forced to stay in the trailer unless taken out on a trail. He typically takes peoples money and doesn't contact them again. This is not a legit business and multiple businesses are trying to report him. The ONLY legal beach trail rides you can purchase in the area is Monterey Bay Equestrian Center. If you see this man give trail rides you need to report him to the state parks ASAP with your location and time. read more

Best day ever, best birthday ever. If you really truly love horses and want to experience a real ride... go with Steve. I have ridden horses every now and then on different vacations and have always had a big love for horses and never have I had an experience like this, first it was the whole day. We met him at his ranch and followed him to the red wood forest where when we got there I had to go to the bathroom and since we were by a national forest there wasn't many close ones so he waited for us to get back with no problem at all. The ride was amazing and we even stopped at a bar to grab a beer and then headed back on our ride. After our insanely beautiful ride we got back to where we started and he said alright follow me we're going to the beach to ride alittle more. It was amazing.. about 7 hour ride. I couldn't walk after lol but it was an amazing time, Steve was the best always talking to us and telling us when we had to do certain things for the horses. You can tell you really loves his horses and what an amazing thing he's doing.. rescuing these horses and giving them jobs so they can live as happy and long lives as possible. His life is those horses and it's a beautiful thing to see and to experience. After that day my boyfriend has the same love for horses as I do and hopefully now my dreams of living on a ranch and owning horses will come true hahahaha thank you Steve for giving me and my boyfriend an experience that changed our lives!! BEWARE!!! I have been trying to get a $500 refund from Steve since January 2022. My family flew in to California for 5 days and I setup a few events during their stay. The day of the ride I texted Steve and told him that we (including my 70 something year old parents) were on our way. It is a 2 hour ride to get to the designated location that he chose. We get there and I am texting and calling Steve for 1 hour with no response. He then texts me back and tells me he had a back injury from riding one of the horses and thought my tour was for the next day. I told him that my family was leaving soon and that we had other events and cannot reschedule the tour. Please provide a refund of $500. I had to quickly find another event for my family which means that I was out $500 for the horseback ride for 5 people, the cost of driving for 4 hours, and a replacement event for my family. Roughly near 1000 bucks in total. GONE... POOF I have been VERY patient with Steve since January. In May of 2022 he agreed that he will start paying me back $100 per month starting in June. June is now here and I reached out to Steve and he is no longer responding to my texts. I have even agreed to him paying me back $50 per month until paid off. No response. I would have even gone down to repayment of $25 per month. But I think he owes too many people too much money and he is now resigned to not responding for repayment. I finally wrote this review because it is now summer and people will be looking for something to do. Please find a more reputable business for your horseback riding tour. Save your hard earned money. My boyfriend and I like horses and will look for places that do horseback riding. However, because we are beginners, our options are typically limited. However... this place was so much better! For the first half of the day, we rode with another family. It was so fun--I was given full control of the horse, and we leisurely rode through the park. It was so beautiful and serene. Best horseback riding experience I've ever had! I booked the all day ride for my husband and I. Neither of us are super experienced, but we've ridden a little before and I wanted a chance to go faster than on your typical trail ride. Steve definitely delivered. He brought two beautiful horses for us (a thoroughbred named Jackson and a mustang named Willy), and we started off at Fort Ord park. Steve knows the place like the back of his hand. He gave us some history and fun facts about the area, and showed us some gorgeous views. We finished up in the afternoon with a ride along the beach. Part of it felt like we had the beach all to ourselves! We got to cross a river and get our feet wet (or more than just feet in my case), and there was plenty of room to gallop. I can't believe I haven't done a beach ride until now. I have to admit I was a little hesitant to book after reading some of the negative reviews, but the positive ones won me over. this is difficult to write but i will do my best to describe my experience to clarify what one can expect from this business. one point does need to be made clear at the forefront, which is that despite it all, steve is NOT a scammer, he's just really bad with time management. we had booked a tour for four at 6PM on a saturday, not having read the reviews. when we read it at 5PM on the way to the beach, we became nervous that he would not show up and keep the $250 deposit, which it seemed a lot of reviews pointed to. we got to the beach he said to meet him at (zmudowski), and there was spotty signal which wasn't a great sign. we called at 550 after milling around the beach for service, and he said he was hauling ass, 15 minutes out. at 610 we called again and he said he was 5 minutes away this time. around 630 we were pretty sure we had been scammed but hung around the beach just because it was nice. he finally showed up around 645 with a large horse trailer in tow. he wasn't rude, and from that point on was able to provide good service. he was knowledgeable, casual, and clearly a one-man show with 14 horses of his own. and he was real. he took us on a nice beach ride and when we decided to turn around early, he said he'd give us credit if we wanted to come back in the future and use up the remaining time. he does care, and he is honest. my take on steve is that he is just really REALLY bad at time management and time estimation. i don't think at all that he is ill-intentioned or a liar: when he says he is 15 minutes away, i think he genuinely thinks he is 15 minutes away (but is really 45). that isn't great for running a business, but it is also inaccurate to say that he is dishonest. which is why i have mixed feelings. read more

BUYER BEWARE!!! I read a couple reviews of poor business ethics on behalf of the owner but I still gave him the benefit of the doubt. Sadly, I found these to be very very true. Me and my girlfriend were looking forward to this ride since it was our only stop while driving up the coast. I eventually settled on Seahorse Equestrian and had booked a ride with Steve on a Saturday morning. Steve notified me that I needed to send him the payment via Paypal in order to hold my reservation, which I did. The night before the ride, Steve had texted me that he had booked another couple the same day and was unable to fulfill the scheduled ride with us. He said he would gladly refund my money, so I wasn't too worried. Little did I know it would not be as easy as I thought to have my money refunded. Days turned into weeks and I kept texting Steve to return my money because we did not receive our ride. He sent a long-winded email about how his truck broke down, he was not a wealthy man, and he will take me on a ride as soon as the truck was working again. I should point out... I DON'T LIVE ANYWHERE NEAR THE AREA AND HAVE NEVER REQUESTED ANOTHER RIDE. From strange to frustrated to great to frustrated. Here's the low down~ I had arranged a sunset ride on the beach. According to other reviews it was fantastic. We were told to meet him at the address in an email. The address is where his horses are kept and found out he rents land. The house on the property is someone different so it seemed a bit awkward. Time is also one of my peeves. We were told one time. Another group had arrived that said Steve told them 1/2 later than ours. Strange but I was still wanting to go riding. An hour and 30 minutes past our original start time and he shows up. I understand that you were wanting to hurry to get the horses loaded up but maybe an apology would be in order to the customers waiting. We drove out to the beach area where everyone was situated on the designated horse. I'm not an experienced rider at all. I rode once in the last ten years and that was just a walk. It was just a "follow me" and go. I was a little uneasy when we approached the hill to ride over before getting onto the beach. Once Steve started up the hill, the rest of the horses trotted up. Finally we were on the beach. It was gorgeous. It was what we had imagined a nice ride would be. Was looking for something fun to do for the wife's birthday and we've always had fun going horseback riding so I just Googled horseback riding in Monterey and Seahorse Equestrian is one of the first that comes up. I was originally looking to do a beach ride but the owner Steve said that beach rides are OK at first but after a while it gets kinda boring because all you're looking at is sand and the water. So we decided to do the Fort Ord tour. VERY cool. It was just Steve, his assistant Garret, the wife and me. We rode for about 2 hours but it didn't seem that long. Steve is a great instructor and guide. He, Garret, his horses and his adorable dog Cisco are all great. My horse Spinner was very easy to control. The whole day I was able to easily guide him with one hand. I'm sure we'll go riding again with Steve soon. It did state on his website that he's a one man show very busy and will text back if he can't answer on the phone. I had looked up several different horseback riding options and decided to go with his because I thought I was supporting a small local business. He did not answer my call and I had Sent a message and we had booked for two people for three hours on May 21 which was a Saturday He required $300 upfront to secure our spot He stated he took Venmo cash app or Zell I had paid him through Zell this was his email Estebanreyroth@outlook.com. The day of the 21st I had not heard anything so I messaged him about two hours before saying "Still on for today at 5:30 right ? "He then responded with "I am putting a new clutch in my truck. It went out yesterday. I am hoping to be done by then. I will keep you posted" That was a red flag right away because if you knew your truck went out the day before and you knew you had somebody booked he should have contacted us first thing in the morning and he did not. I then called him twice and he would not answer he would only talk to me via tax which was red flag number two. He then asked if we could reschedule and I asked for a refund he stated that it would be about three weeks before he could return my money and that it would be better to reschedule. I then tried calling him today June 3 it's been about two weeks I had requested a refund via Zell and he had declined it when I called him today the number is now saying it's not excepting calls I had gone on to Cell and have seen that this is happened to other people as well he asked for a deposit then ghosts and keeps the money. It all seems like a legit business at first there is a nice website with reviews and photos. This is 100% a scam and the website should be taken down so this doesn't happen again to anyone . I called a few places however they were not very accommodating to our short notice, (the night before we wanted to go). We are locals, filling an item on my daughters summer wish list. I had the time and flexibility to be very selective about which company we chose. Right from the start, Steve was personable and professional. He did an amazing job of matching each member of my family with the perfect horse for their skill and comfort level. Our guide was Garrett, who was punctual, friendly, easy going, patient and very experienced for such a young man. Most important to note, they let you "just ride the horse!" This is not one of those horseback tides where the horses follow nose to tail and you're just along for the ride. If you want to run the horse (and you can) they turn you loose. Steve is as excellent! Horses were in great shape and well trained... we got to ride in the water and on the beach for a long beautiful ride! Horses wanted to run so Steve made sure the group was ready and willing and we let them go! Was the best experience above and beyond the usual for sure! We will return for more family fun!
