If we could give more than 5 stars, we would! Every bite at this seafood spot was a standout. The seafood is incredibly fresh. We started with the steamed mussels, and they were absolutely perfect -- tender, flavorful, and clearly just out of the water. The scallops were seared to golden perfection, and the lobster roll was everything you want it to be: buttery, packed with meat, and served on the perfect roll. Service was on point from start to finish -- attentive, friendly. This place is an absolute gem. The mussels were on the old side with a few closed shells. The seafood platter had some hits with well braised scallops and well flavoured shrimp. The fried clams were deep fried fairly heavy. We loved this place! We were in Cheticamp for 5 nights and had decided to try a different restaurant each night, but we simply had to go back to the Seafood Stop a second time. We had the Lobster and Crableg platters and they were delicious. A lot of food for a great price! Dinner even included coffee and tea and scrumptious mini-pecan pies. Wish it was closer than a 16 hour drive because that is very far to go just for dinner! Our waitress Jackie is the absolute best! And the other staff were very pleasant and helpful. The decor is great- lots of boats and fisherman around the walls with Acadian music in the background. However I'm not impressed with the food. I got the fish burger ($7.50) with add on salad ($4). Although the fish itself is fresh and tender, the breading is a bit salty and the cheese ruined the taste for me. I read several reviews before choosing this place, including the couple who said they came back here twice. Well, maybe they were 1 in a million. We ordered seafood chowder, tasted like milk, watery texture, no flavor, questionable appearance (proof in the pictures), had some seafood... maybe the person who really knew how to cook a decent chowder wasn't there that day. We also ordered the lobster dinner, the "signature" and most expensive dish at this place. It was a small lobster, simply boiled in water, overcooked, no flavor, no salt, not even a lemon... oh wait: with regular butter on the side. We know that lobsters should have a meat ratio of 15-20%, but I didn't even get 3oz. But even having 2oz, it should taste like glory, not like 3 bites of sour, hard, nasty stuff. Sides: french fries (the best part of the meal), cabbage salad, superfine shredded, the taste you would expect from hospital food. Probably like you, I was looking for a great local fresh seafood dinner, the only reason I gave an extra star is for the staff, our waitress was one of the nicest person ever, we know this is not her fault. So, I wanna start off by saying I love this restaurant. It DEFINITELY lives up to its name. Its a small, no frills restaurant/gift shop, that serves really good food. It's not fast but not slow either. I always order either the whole lobster, or whole fried clams and fries. I get coleslaw too, which is decent. Usually I'll get a butter tart as well, which is fantastic. All in all, a good meal. However on a recent trip, 2 people I was traveling with ordered crab rolls. Dear lord, nothing about these were worth 14 bucks. They were just a small amount of crab on a hotdog bun. Kinda pissed me off. They didn't even come with sides. Like... it might pass if it came with fries, but It was a straight up rip off. Other than that, I still recommend the place, but don't order the crab/lobster roll. read more

While taking a drive along the Cabot Trail, I stopped at Seafood Stop in Chéticamp for a chowder break recently. Seafood Stop is located south of the Chéticamp main strip on the Cabot Trail. This seasonal restaurant serving lunch and dinner has a fish market (fresh & frozen)/souvenir shop section with takeout counter and lobster tank and a full service dining room with plenty of windows for natural light. The menu offerings are mainly seafood dishes and sides, as well as Canadian style fare and desserts. They offer Complete Lobster Dinners which include a 1 1/4 lb lobster with melted butter, choice of potato, vegetable, roll, butter tart, and coffee or tea, as well as a Senior menu which includes meal, butter tart, and coffee or tea. Came here for dinner upon our arrival in town. Recommended by our B&B. We noted that there seemed to be a lot of locals eating there, so we were hopeful. As stated in other reviews, the food is okay, but not spectacular ... especially considering the prices. However it met our needs. My wife and I each had a cup of clam chowder. Quite good with plenty of meet. If I were returning I might consider getting a bowl with a side salad as my meal. I also had the whole clams with a baked potato and would not order it again. They looked good but were overdone. I could not distinguish the clams from the breading. Our server was fine. Kept water glasses full and checked on us regularly. read more

Okay. I don't go out of my way to put down a restaurant. But I have to this time.... Seafood was good, and a fair price. But I had kids and they got Mac & Cheese. $9.49/ea!!! I asked if it was lobster Mac, or something special. Nope. Still I figured maybe it was homemade or something good. Not only was this straight up Kraft Dinner, but it didn't NOT include the fries that the menu said, and the kids got root beer (says drinks included), nope, that was another $2.49. They didn't have the courtesy to let us know that the meal included a juice box. And NO, we didn't get that either. When I questioned all of this, I got the "nope, that's the price" answer. Pathetic. Terrible business practices. They don't deserve to stay in business operating that way. Called back to speak with the manager about this. Explained my situation, not looking for a free meal. A lot full of cars on a quiet late-May Wednesday afternoon looked promising for a decent seafood lunch. After a considerable wait and two cups of coffee, the food arrived. My two pan-fried haddock fish cakes were definitely hot, lightly browned, and adequately seasoned. Served with a tiny order of slaw and chow pickle, peas, and a dinner roll, it was decent, but there was absolutely nothing here for the eyes or mouth to create an impact. My partners flour-thickened seafood chowder with haddock, shrimp, and cod looked promising, but again was an ultimate letdown in the flavour department. Our simple lunch and two coffees came to about $33 before tip - not a great deal. Avoid this place at all costs. 45 dollars for the lobster dinner... they served me a rotten, old, reheated, TINY lobster and then when I sent it back - the chef agreed that it was inedible and made a new one "fresh." The second one was worse than the first. Could not even chew it and it was bone dry! All of the sides were straight from the can. The people sitting at the table beside us both sent their meals back as well. I cannot even believe that there are good reviews listed on here. They MUST be fake because nothing was fresh or homemade. Nothing at all. They had a tank of live lobsters at the front of the place (i guess for show) and they never even walked over to it the entire time we were there. I dont know where that food came from or how long was frozen but it was absolutely unacceptable. This place should be shut down. From the 2 bites of lobster I ate there I got sick. read more

Haven't found oyster like this for years - deep shell, large and fresh, with no need for anything else but a tiny squeeze of lemon, if that. Absolutely delicious. Avoid! I saw all the positive reviews and decided to stop, but I soon discovered that everything (except the fish) was basically purchased as frozen food/walmart/sysco. So, basically the fried fish I ate was quite good, but everything from the soup to the potatoes to the bread to the deserts we bought were all prepackaged food. I don't have any experience at other restaurants in this area, so I cannot compare, but I doubt this is normal! Perhaps try another place. read more

It is definitely a nice quaint little place but the food was mediocre and the wait was WAYYY too long. We waited about an hour before the food the arrived and food mediocre. The lobster was bland and rubbery and the other dishes the fish and chips and seafood stirfry were okay. the chowder was very yummy and the oyster were definitely fresh. We came upon this by chance as we were leaving the park and restaurants closer has huge wait times. We would have been better off waiting somewhere else. Party of 5 seated immediately, atmosphere is cold and uninviting , in my opinion. Appetizers came out at 3 separate times . Scallops, salad and poutinne were good. An hour later meals arrives. With the exception of the crab legs( arriving 15 minutes after everyone else's food) all the food very bland and definitely purchased frozen, grey peas and all. Wine and beer list were abysmal, and our glasses sat empty for long, long periods of time. Staff were friendly but not attentive. All in all a very poor experience and would never return. read more

We just had a terrible visit to this restaurant, and unfortunately my best friend (with whom I'm travelling) was not the only one today to have been poisoned by the fish cakes and/or beans! Five people today had upset stomachs and symptoms of food poisoning, a fact I discovered when I went into the local health food store for mint tea. Dreadful! The other food was very bland, which is quite shocking for a seafood haven such as Cheticamp. We returned to the restaurant later this afternoon, and suggested they look at the fishcakes, or even perhaps the beans, and instead of apologizing or acknowledging this serious problem, the woman behind the counter insisted they were fresh made. They were certainly not fresh (or there was a bacteria problem or something with it or its source). Please avoid this place. It's cute, and the wait staff were nice except for the complete lack of apology when we returned to let them know about this problem. It was not a good experience. read more

Ok, how about a 1 1/4 lb lobster with GARLIC butter (with identifiable shreds of garlic BTW), lovely fluffy warm roll, potato (like a pile of dark salty handcut fries), vegetable (who cares), AND A BUTTER TART WITH COFFEE to chase that all down ya. Served by a jolly and brisk Acadian lady while the kitchen staff argues furiously. Or try the crab, same deal, tender flaky sweet crab legs. We're coming back for the mussels and chowder. We were hoping for some fresh, tasty seafood, but instead, we got something that was just short of unedible. We tried to order the fishcakes, but they were sold out. Instead, I ordered the pan fried haddock. It was more like a soggy egg omelet with haddock in the middle. My boyfriend ordered a "restaurant specialty" the whole fried clams. They tasted like deep fried french fries with a chewy clam-like center. The service was good but the food was terrible. This is probably the worst food I've ever eaten in a restaurant, and that includes Mcdonald's and KFC! Save your money and go elsewhere! read more
