I have vacationed in Portsmouth on the bank of the Piscataqua River for twenty years but until my boat excursion with Captain Jon had never seen the historic sites, forts, prison, coast guard stations, retired rescue station, from the water view nor the beauty and elegance of Sagamore Creek off New Castle Island and the historic light houses. We were so close they felt alive. Jon told me that indeed they were alive, fully automated, and functional and still directing ships of all sizes and types from around the world safely into Portsmouth's exciting and scenic harbor. We also learned a bit of basic rules applying to navigational buoys. The boat was very comfortable and had seating under a sunscreen as well as a comfortable cabin and head.  The beauty of the shoreline was matched by the magnificence of the animals we saw up close; five lobsters, retrieved from two of his private lobster pots-four just a bit under size for keeping land one large one covered with caviar like eggs on its bottom. The five of them were returned to their home thirty feet below the boat to grow and propagate. Diving and dining cormorants and a majestic bald eagle flying close to the boat were the visual desert. The beauty of the sites was matched by the enlightening narrative that Jon provided, both of the shoreline's features, lobster biology, and maritime history and folklore.  My summary: Two hours of visual delight, learning, fun and a bit of Maine gossip.  My recommendation: Five stars-the highest possible.  Bob Levine

The crew knows the areas where the whales feed, and when they see the spout or breach or any indication of whale activity, the boat can quickly go to them. It's true they snail-mailed me a brochure, but I dealt with Paul primarily through email and he was extremely responsive and good-natured. Our driver, Eric was fantastic! The trolley was adorable and they drove my parents, groom's parents and our wedding party to the South Church in Portsmouth. Eric was very accommodating when we changed plans to have him pick us up in the middle of town because we were taking pictures. Then once we all piled on, he blasted "going to the Chapel" as we cruised through the streets of Portsmouth which was awesome! So so fun. Paul was very thorough coordinating everything, even sending a picture of the exact pickup location so I couldn't recommend Seacoast Trolley more! They were also significantly less expensive than some other trolley companies we looked into.

Donna was a true historian of the area and told us all about the history and prominent sites with her enthusiastic energy which made it truly interesting. Our ride was challenging enough to keep us active and moving while being totally doable. What a great way to see the area in a way that would be very difficult to do on your own as a visitor. I would have given less stars because of the bikes, but the guide was so amazing I upped the stars. Truly the company needs to invest in better quality of bikes. You get what you pay for. Again, fantastic guide!
