We started with drinks and some lite breakfast fare all of which tasted good. I went with the crab cake eggs Benedict with wasabi hollandaise sauce which was full of flavor. The crab cake itself tasted as if it just came out of the sea. Incredibly fresh. I also got to try their French toast entree too. What looked like 2 slabs of brioche made into French toast with a berry topping and maple syrup was also just as good. 10/10. The service here was very polite and attentive to all of our needs throughout our visit. I would definitely like to come here again. Eat here!

I received a call to confirm our reservation, inquiry about food allergies, confirm our celebration and express they are looking forward to welcoming us, this set the tone! The decor is industrial, elegant and aquatic (the mermaids sculpture on the wall is gorgeous). The furniture is contemporary and beautiful. Very nice aesthetic. .The door man Keith was very warm and welcoming Our server was Santiago, he was knowledgeable about the menu, so professional and personable. The other staff members were also very nice. The manager stopped by to check on us. Now the food! Let's start with the offering of fresh sliced fruit for our sparkling water! Cucumber, lime, lemon, orange and strawberry. Do cool! For the appetizer we had the pork belly bao buns, lamb chops and fried calamari. For the entree we ordered the Chilean sea bass, the Salmon and Halibut, all were prepared perfectly. For the cocktails we had the Smokey blue sky and the blackberry flutterby delicious! Finally for dessert we had the warm chocolate cake, the pistachio cannoli and strawberry mandarin almond cake. Everything was fantastic.

In general, the prices for everything from eggs to oil are still consistently much higher than almost any other chain supermarket in Staten Island-the exception being Key Food, whose prices are artificially inflated beyond almost anywhere else. At this Western Beef, ungraded USDA "Inspected" level beef is still being sold at prices higher than certified Angus Choice beef at ShopRite or Stop snd Shop. The poultry looks unclean and is of unknown origin. A small container of Country Crock Plant Butter is $6.50 here-$3.45 at ShopRite. The "Cuban" bread baked here is good, and the store is a reliable source for pan Caribbean/African items, especially since they are available here under one roof. But even many of these items are overpriced. The $1.00-$1.50 package of fresh thyme found in virtually every fruit and vegetable store in Brooklyn can be $3.00 here. There are produce sales that are reasonable, but even here the price of plantains is double Stop and Shop's price. At least Western Beef is big, but still operating on the edge of price gouging. Go only if you must.

Super cute small local business that sells "homemade" Korean kimchi with a small weekly menu…read more It is located in a cross section of Bay Ridge Avenue and Colonial Road next to a pizzeria. They specialize in a variety of jarred kimchi that you normally see in grocery stores. The price per jar is anywhere between $10-$15. They also have a weekly (changing) menu offering Korean homemade soups and lunch. I got a pork kimchi ($13 after taxes) and it was delicious. This brought up so much childhood memories of a time when my dad worked at a local Cheung Fun place in Chinatown. You feel something inside that you don't normally get when you go to a crowded / fancier restaurant. It feels like "home" in a sense. I love a small business like Kimchi Kooks Kate's Kitchen because it adds characters to the local business. :) The staff are friendly and because there is an open kitchen, you can see them make your food. Although no seating, you can always grab the food and get a slice of pizza next door and have a meal at the pizzeria's outdoor seating. :)

I picked up a small jar of their classic white kimchi ($8.32), which I was so excited to try because white kimchi is traditionally made with pine nuts and it's difficult to find a nut-free version at supermarkets. I thought the kimchi had a pleasant tang, though it was a little savorier than I expected. The variety of banchan was also excellent-- I counted 21 different dishes as well as 4 different types of sauces. I picked up a miyeok and dubu muchim ($8.32) which was a seaweed salad tossed with firm tofu crumbles. I intended to eat it for dinner, but I finished the whole container before I got home because it was so addictive and delicious. If you have any questions, a staff member is at hand but everything is neatly labeled with an explanation of ingredients. Their kitchen is open on Wed-Sun so I'd love to return to try a weekend special, which rotates on a weekly basis. Kimchi Kooks is located a short walk away from Owl's Head Park and the pier, so I would definitely recommend grabbing a few banchan to-go if the weather is nice! PS- A staff member kindly let me know that all the kimchis are nut-free and that if you bring the glass jar back, you get $1 off your next purchase.
