The bioluminescent tour was magical. Our guides were friendly and knowledgeable, and they helped us make the most of our time on the water. We both saw the coolest things they pointed out and got a chance to touch the bioluminescent jellyfish they caught and kept in a jar for us to touch. (They were returned to the sea afterwards, no worries.) We had a mechanical issue with the boat on the return trip, and our guide diagnosed it swiftly and then towed us back to shore. 10/10, no notes, highly recommended. FYI: There is a gift shop with snacks, water, tea/soda, and clothes along with the usual bits. Useful to know for planning your day. read more

We did the bioluminescence tour. It was very cool and a unique thing to do! Be prepared to paddle your arms because you will be doing lots of that! You do not wear shoes in the kayaks and you will get wet. They warn you to not take anything with you (phone, shoes, etc.) that you do not want to lose or get wet. The guides are knowledgeable of the bioluminescent critters and are used to taking people out on the 8 pm tour. Don't expect to see things brightly glowing all around you, but you will see a lot of glowing upon movement and disturbance of the water. When you realize that you are actually seeing these things it's very cool! I decided not to take my phone because it is very difficult to get a good picture of the things that glow. There is a section that is a little choppy/wavy that may be strenuous to some. Overall, I would say it's fun and educational and to give it a try! read more

I came to St. Croix specifically for the bioluminescent kayaking and Sea Thru Kayak did not disappoint. Craig was nice enough to rebook me after I couldn't finish the first time I went and Milo was a great guide. He gave me so many great kayaking tips. Being under the stars with glowing waters underneath is something unique to St. Croix and a few other places in the world and if you are visiting St. Croix do not miss this. Also I advise picking the colored kayaks (not the transparent ones) if it's your first time kayaking because they are easy to move in. And also as a beginner don't pull in your arms to move the oars (like what you do for weightlifting), push one arm out while holding the oar with the other hand to conserve energy. read more

We visited St Croix from St Thomas and thought it would be cool to see bioluminescence. Wow was it WAY more exciting than we anticipated. Upon arrival we were greeted by the nicest folks: Sandra, Marin, and Craig. You can feel how much heart and soul is put in to the whole experience. We went with the sea through kayak (a MUST though I do believe you have to have 2 people for these) and were amazed at the experience. You start with a little training in a marina then take off on a bigger journey than I had anticipated. It's not hard and in fact was really fun. Then you arrive at the bioluminescent bay and I can't say WOW enough. You start to see the light in the water as you paddle and it just keeps getting brighter and brighter. The crew shared a ton of interesting facts - including that St Croix manages to be the most luminescent bay because they're strict about not letting humans mess with nature (no motors and no deet based bug spray!). I can't recommend this experience enough while you're in St Croix. read more

We had a great time on the see-through boat tour. We saw lots of different birds and learned about the history and nature from our guide.

I'd definitely recommend this tour on a night where the moon is not visible. We went a day or two after the full moon passed so it was pretty dark and you're able to see the bioluminescence a lot better in the dark. We did suffer through some rain showers so we were cold and wet by the end, but nothing the bay and water didn't fix. This was my second time doing the tour and I will say the darker the better. The first time my wife and I went we weren't able to see as much. This time my son and I went and although it's hard to impress a 9 year old, we definitely saw a lot more and even were able to see a cone jellyfish. Timing, effort, patience and ultimately a positive attitude matter on making this the best or worst. I will say I wish the guides had a mini blow horn or microphone so all guests could hear the cool facts. My son didn't catch any of what Milo said and was disappointed when we came back in because he actually looked forward to that part. I'm born and raised Crucian and little things like these do keep our island life alive, but it needs to be more than bright lights and cool kayaks. Make the history/facts louder please read more

Jake , the lead guide, was super friendly and knowledgeable about our experience we were taking on. He is professional and passionate about the preservation of the bay. We all learned the why of maintaining the area as it provides purpose to our entire ecosystem. We recommend sea thru kayaking on this adventure as when you get to the bay the creatures you will see through the boat are unreal. We took the nighttime bioluminescent tour and it was one of the highlights of our STX visit. We rented the sit-on-top kayaks but didn't feel we had missed out by not getting the Sea Thru. The facility was top-notch and the owners provided DEET-free insect repellent, showers, changing rooms, and lockers. They really anticipated the customer's needs. everyone was so friendly and helpful. Safety was paramount, but it never infringed on the fun and wonder of the trip. Brett was an excellent guide and teacher. His presentation on the biology of the bay was both interesting and humorous. The trip allowed us over a half hour to just play and have fun in this amazing habitat. We highly recommend the trip to anyone visiting St. Croix. This was a great value! read more

I would like to rate this as 5 stars thanks to our tour guide Maurin, however, Craig or Chris (I cannot remember which) was a horrible representative of the business. He was unbelievably rude several times throughout the evening and was intentionally difficult when making accommodations. This was a huge disappointment and significantly brings down our review. When severe weather came in he joked at our expense when we were inquiring on the situation; refund policy/rescheduling. He further doubled down when two individuals from separate groups wanted to join to make 1 kayak instead of 2 single kayaks. He had rude remarks regarding this request and was all but unwillingly to do so. He made it very apparent that this was not something he wanted to do as it caused him an additional 30 seconds of work (switching 1 kayak out). Very disappointed in our experience prior to the tour and would likely not return. Maurin did an absolutely wonderful job and is an excellent tour guide. She is incredibly knowledgeable on the sea life and the surrounding environment. read more

Wonderful time as a family kayaking out to the bay for the bioluminescense tour. Paddling out takes maybe 20 minutes or 3/4 mile. Which is pretty easy as long as there is light to no wind. Staff and owner are super helpful and friendly. I would absolutely recommend this tour and group and make sure to reserve especially if there is a new moon so there is better visibility of the water glows from the phytoplankton. read more

We had such a great experience with our guide, Maddie. The wind was strong which made it harder for a bit but much easier getting back. My husband and I had a terrifying experience. There were only 2 guides, and they were all the way in the front of the long group of kayakers. My husband and I got left behind and flipped by a wave in open, dark water. It took the guides 20 minutes to realize we were stranded and treading water before a guide could get to us. Don't miss the bioluminescent kayak while in St Croix. Only 12 year round bioluminescent bays in the world, 7 of which are in the Caribbean. Hubbie and I were in a sit on top 2 person kayak, niece on a single "glass bottom " kayak and they had see thru kayaks -nice to have options as some vessels more stable then others. Guides very knowledgeable and kept us safe. They supply reef safe bug lotion which is great. The kayaking itself was not too strenuous and to be out under the stars was just amazing! I've done a couple different bio bays and this one was our favorite by far. The see-through kayaks make all the difference, it's like watching thousands of stars passing underneath you at warp speed. We came to St Croix for our honeymoon, and stayed at a resort on the island. We stumbled upon see thru kayaks while looking for something to do, and we could not be more glad that we did. We had gotten a warning from an employee at the resort that since it was a full moon, we wouldn't see much, but boy were they wrong. We got to see the Bermuda Fireworm, which is apparently very rare! We also saw the glowing jelly, glowing fish, and both kinds of plankton. All of the employees were extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and the entire tour was a blast. Definitely a once in a lifetime experience, and we can't wait to brag to everyone when we get home about this. I have never written a review on ANYTHING, but with how amazing this tour was, I had to. I did get a bit tired kayaking, but it was pretty windy and the water was rough getting over to the bay. Nothing I couldn't handle though, and my husband was in awe the entire time. I would recommend this to literally anyone and everyone, as long as you're willing to do a little work to see the most magical glow ever. read more

Try and kayak next to the lead guide because Ryan had a lot of good history and stories to tell about the area. It was sometimes hard to hear if you weren't around him.
