Who doesn't love a sea otter? Fans of sea otters will love this shop! The store name pretty much sums up what kind of products are for sale. Lots and lots of T-shirts, and other apparel displaying an otter theme. There are also knick-knacks, jewelry, key chains, wall decor, and stuffed animals. But not everything is devoted to sea otters. There is still plenty of other collectables, gifts and souvenirs to be found. I bought a quilted, long sleeve, raglan crew top that was comfortable and warm to wear, with "Monterey" embroidered on the front for $30.00. While Monterey Bay Aquarium has several gift shops within it's facility, the prices are just too high for me to splurge on. No matter how beautiful and high quality the products may be! My daughter walked in squeezed a toy meant for squeezing the toy popped in her hand, store attendant happened to be near and proceeded to tell a 12 year old she had to pay for the toy. Terrible customer service and terrible policy, have everything behind glass if they cannot be handled. This place has the best shirts and gifts ever. For those of you that love a good pun, the shirts here are pretty top notch. From the GodfOtter to the HOtter Sauce shirt, every time I come here I want to add more to my shirt collection. We always leave here with a couple of souvenirs for my 8 year old and things for myself. My favorite item seen this time around was the Otter masks that they had. Masks are all packaged and sealed so people don't open the packaging to handle the mask. They were totally cute and we bought a ton! Ever since I got an annual membership with Monterey Bay Aquarium, I've been making my way down more often to Monterey. After the aquarium, I always love to stroll down Cannery Row, which is where I found this amazing store! Sea Otter Shirts sells what they're named for - Sea Otter Shirts!! They have different kinds (t-shirts, crew necks, hoodies, etc) with different designs and different puns. It's such a cute store!! Who wouldn't love a store with otter stuff?! I saw a sea otter tape dispenser that I thought was really cute but didn't end up buying. Of course the best seller is Hairy Otter shirts! I fell in love when I first saw it, but they were sold out. I made sure to make plans to come back out. 2 days prior to my visit (a Thursday), I called Sea Otter Shirts if they had Hairy Otter crewnecks available. The person on the phone said there were none and was not sure when they were going to restock. The day of my visit, I wanted to show my bf their awesome stuff and lo and behold - stacks & stacks of Hairy Otter crewnecks!! Must've been my lucky day, cause I think they had restocked just in time for the weekend rush ;) I bought one for myself and we got one as a gift for my friend for the holidays. My bf wanted one but said the colors were not to his taste (he was looking for a maroon type of color, but they only had navy & purples). This is the best place in the entire world. Monterey introduced me to Sea Otters and on my first visit there I stopped into this shop. Otters found me at a low point in my life and they inspired me to pursue a career in marine biology. I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life before I went to Monterey. Everything in my life is otter now, and through research and higher education I've been able to see how truly important they are to the environment and food chain, not just to me! Whenever I wear the adorable clothes I got at this store I'm always inspired to learn more about these beautiful animals and think about what I can do to help them! A while back I even got to meet an otter face to face (even though it was an asian small clawed otter) in my Otter attire! The otter I got to hold was appropriately named 'Hairy Otter'. I applied for an undergraduate research position at Zoo Miami this fall to study the gastrointestinal Micro-biomes of three different species of otter. Unfortunately the project got cancelled due to Covid-19, but it got me involved with the Otter Keeper association in North America. If all goes according to plan I will be attending my first Otter Keeper Workshop this fall in my home city of Miami, Florida. I'm so grateful to Monterey and to this store for inducing me to otters! I can't wait to come back to this store some day and pick up a lot more otter merch! I know this was a really long review but I just wanted to express how much this town and store really changed my life for the better! However, if you spend more than $50 like we did, they will give you a free 99 cent tote bag that advertises their "otter" shops on Cannery Row, and if you buy something from there, you get 10% off. Adorable store on cannery row! There's a giant sea otter out front but of course I had to get my picture taken with. If you have children, this is the place I want to be with everything otter you might want to buy. This place is cute and touristy for sure. It is your typical souvenir shop but has a funny twist with the "Hairy Otter" display which is pretty funny. I wouldn't really buy shirts from here though as I have purchased two and they're not super high quality shirts so after a few washes they fade out, twist out of shape and look like you should be using them to work on your car ... or mop the floor ... Things are touristy priced and they do have cool themed mugs / cups which is what I usually end up with for touristy things. read more

I saw a great child's sweatshirt and decided to go back to get it. We called and were told a closing time. I arrived an hour before the stated time only to find the pull-down doors partially closed. I knocked and a voice called out, "We're closed." I told him I had called and been told the closing time was an hour from now. I asked him please, offered to pay cash, and all I got was, "We're closed." As much as I loved the product, I don't feel bad that they didn't make a sale. Go somewhere else. Cute and funny prints and very "tourist-ty" Three stars are for the two workers in the store for that particular morning that we and several other customers were browsing for shirts to buy. They basically ignored everyone and went about their business talking about some girl and something that happened somewhere a few days ago. C'mon, there's a business to run and the employees need to service their customers... We were looking for a particular size that we could not find and they lost a sale there. I have to admit it caught my eye, and if you still don't get it it's a sea otter that is made to look like Harry Potter. If you want to buy a shirt here, I recommend the star wars one or the on that has the duck co tag on it, better material and print. The others are regular gliden shirts that doesn't fit properly. Otterly ridiculous! A store aboutt otters?! They're are my favorite animals! Who doesn't love furry animals and puns?! This store is a combination of both. They have awesome punny shirts like TerminOTTER and GodfOTTER Great stuff. My friends and I bought Hairy Otter hats, but they had a wide variety of stuff from PJs, to socks, to shirts. I wish they had more punny otter shirts. The store itself is fairly small thus the 4 stars. Otherwise I would have given a 5 star in a heartbeat!
