5 stars (for its category: boutique-ish hotel) value, friendly and efficient staff, location, cleanliness, and overall experience.
We booked our one and only night stay at El Nido here at Sea Cocoon based on the positive reviews from TripAdvisor and the great value. For approx $80 usd per night, this is a steal. Here are the pros and cons:
Pros:
- excellent staff. Just like most if not all Filipino establishments, the hospitality and pleasantries displayed by staff are something to boast about. We met Eric, a friendly and knowledgeable management staff informing us about El Nido and what makes it an amazing place to visit.
- location. A couple of blocks away from the busy and noisy streets of El Nido beach front establishments but only a 3-5 minute walk to the water, restaurants, and shops.
- value. At approx. $80/night to stay at a new hotel is a great deal. This place opened in September 2015.
- the room was clean, beds were decent, there is a balcony overlooking the pool and the residential roofs then the beach (see pic attached).
-the pool appeared clean although not heated. It had a shower and changing station. BONUS: we checked out in the morning and asked them to stow our backpacks during our tour of el nido. They stowed them underneath the stairs unlocked which was totally fine. The bonus was that they allowed us to shower and change after our long day island hopping upon our return. THANK YOU!!!
-Just like every other hotel in el nido, SC offers free breakfast. The meal was decent offering western and Filipino options. Extra meals was priced at $300/plate. This was a bit steep for Filipinos but totally fine with me.
- wifi was zero to nil. Yes, this is a pro... you're in El Nido, go explore, do something, go talk to a stranger. If you really need something, the front desk can help you make a phone call, you know, like a human being should.
Cons:
-no elevators. Although I appreciate staying at the 4th floor to avoid the noise of street level, elevator would have came in handy at times carrying our somewhat heavy baggage. No biggie, everyone can use a workout.
- the view from our balcony are the roofs of homes in the area. Not so appealing to look over this poverty to view the sea (see picture).
- this is definitely not SC's fault but due to the open air dining room, the flies surrounding while dining was a total nuisance.
I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to stay in El Nido proper. read more
