As we waited in line an older gentleman completed his transaction and exited the store. It was obvious he was regular customer who knew cashier. As our items were being checked out the older gentleman returned to the register and started to engage in conversation with cashier and young man behind the counter about politics. He was obviously a member of some political committee in town as he was trying to recruit young man behind counter to join his party and get involved with politics. He said their party had to get younger people involved. The female cashier and the gentleman then both started throwing childish insults about other party and moaning about what a mess the country was in. I consider myself fairly middle of the road and have voted for both parties, but I was shocked by this behavior and felt like it was hostile because they had no idea who was standing in line. My guess is they just didn't care. Unfortunately this exchange will stick with me a while as it demonstrates how callous people have become around others. Probably find other places to shop in future.

They also carry a decent selection of cookware for both indoors and out, making this a great one-stop for your kitchen needs, and the best place to go in Machias. I go here whenever I run out of a spice, and always find a few extra things while I am at it. Its a good thing Machias is too small for a Trader Joe's.
