If you are this person then The Rug Rooms will disappoint I'm afraid as they are closed on a Wednesday. However if you are happy to buy your rugs on other days then The Rug Rooms is a good place to go. They have rugs from all over the world ranging from modern designs to the more traditional. They also specialise in rugs of the gigantic kind and you can even arrange a home consultation where a specialist will come to your house and discuss you need of massive rugs. Customisation seems to be in these days so if your looking for something a little bit unique then you can also design your own rug at The Rug Rooms! What more do you want? To be able to go in on a Wednesday? Tough!

Apart from the obvious, namely rugs, this place offers a wee bit of calm just off the hustle and bustle of great western road. Located in a strange old building with loads of period features and its fair share of character, the rug rooms has tons o rugs and floor furnishings (another term for rugs) differing in style and price. Keep in mind this ain't no IKEA when looking at the prices, and always be prepared to grab someone if you have any question's, they really are quite nice.....if only they incorporated this joint with a coffee spot.....maybe a business plan in the making, rugs and coffee.....ruffee....cugs.....ok , enough, if you want a rug give this place a visit.

As well as completing a total re fit in my absence, they also fitted blinds. Their motto Quality, Service and Trust says it all, I would also add they go beyond - it's rare nowadays to experience this level of service and workmanship. Highly recommended and a big thank you to Danny and the team.

They have a good selection in-store focusing on carpets, vinyls and rugs and the prices are very reasonable - managed to get both items I wanted for a mere £100. The quality is really good as wasn't sure what to expect so all in all a bargain if you ask me!

It's like an Aladins Cave, with crazy cushions, stately chaise's, and obscure objet d'art. Not to mention the lamps. They do sinceriously awesome lamps - from multi-bulbed (of different sizes!), glass dome encasements, to the brightly coloured giant miners lamps. If you're not careful, you'll miss that they have a downstairs too. We did, and the staff ( who were in no way pushing sales), pointed it out. Third is whet they have some great pictures, in a variety of styles - but I really liked a big pop art one. If I had loads of money, I could easily spend a fortune here! The stock for somewhere like this must rotate quite regularly, so I look forward to checking it out again in a few months time.

Oh, yes I'm a lady. Anyhoo, as you can imagine I've been through my fair share of rugs - I've given up on carpets and decided wooden floors and the odd rug is the easier, cleanest and best way to go. Hence, this is a place I've popped into more than once. It's a massive place! Not only do they have masses of carpets and rugs in all shapes, sizes and colours but they also offer vinyl and eh other cold floor coverings. You know the stuff I mean right? As you can tell I'm not that into my DIY and luckily the staff in here and really friendly and gave me very clear instructions on how to lay some vinyl (or something) in my tiny bathroom. After much huffing, puffing, the odd swear word and a bottle of red wine it was done! Good job done all round! Oh and obviously as Eleanor pointed out the prices are very reasonable, there's a wide range of stock and they are also open seven days. Top marks.
Persian Handmade Carpets
This lovely, genuine carpet and rug shop has been here for as long as I can remember. In fact, one…read moreof my earliest memories is my folks buying a massive rug out of here - all reds, oranges and dark greens. It still stands in one of the busiest sections of Great Western Road with it's huge glass windows expertly showing off the wide range of carpets and rugs they have to offer. Admittedly, due to the Persian aspect, a lot of the rugs are fairly similar - well, at least colour wise - so may not suit the modern Ikea themed home. However, if you are looking for something with bundles of character, warm tones and plushness this is the place for you. Unfortunately, the prices in here have crept up as this part of the city has became increasingly trendy. This is potentially why it seems apparent that the business is seriously struggling. But, for all you bargain hunters this can no longer be an excuse as they are offering huge reductions now. I'm definitely hopping down and investigating when I get my next wages in. They also have some ok priced gifts (mostly candle holders and the like) as well as some really sweet little kiddies knitted jackets. Maybe, someone more domesticated than me could easily knit these themselves but alas, that it not me. So for £12 a pop and at their good quality, I give them the thumbs up. Hurry, before this place sadly diminishes.

But there's no denying that the IKEA experience has transformed the way we equip our homes. Yet it is an experience shopping here, and you either love it or hate it. If you have no idea what you're getting into or what you're looking for, go upstairs to the showroom section and browse around until you have achieved the necessary zombie-like trance state to descend into the main store. Then wander mindlessly through the maze of stuff until you (hopefully) find what you were looking for. If it's larger items you want, you then have to locate them in the warehouse section, which resembles that scene at the end of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' with its endless rows of high shelves. Then finally, the tills, after which you will be more inclined to enter the cafe area for some sustenance after your endurance trial. Savvy shoppers like myself pre-shop on the website, which handily will print out a list of your items and tell you where they are located, including the exact shelf number in the warehouse for the bulky items. Then, avoiding the upper floor, head straight for the small door behind the main staircase and go straight into the store. Pay careful attention to the layout of the 'short-cut' doors that connect the different areas; these will help you to avoid trolling round the whole maze.

I visited on Sunday and while it can be a nightmare on the weekend, thankfully this store is big enough that you might not notice. The line for food was ridiculous though, and it was at least a 10 minute wait. They've also changed the meatball portion sizing so it's small, medium large whereas I'm convinced you used to order by number of meatballs. You also can't have both chips AND mash, you need to get a separate portion of chips. No one stands between me and double carbs, ok?! Apart from these small grizzles, I generally really like going to Ikea and will always overspend and bring home things I don't need. This time it was a fish shaped ice cube tray. Do I need it? probably not. But it was only 90p! Hot tip: if you're holding a gallery exhibition, this is a great place to get the frames. The frames come in boxes of 10 and you can take the whole box for easy transportation.
