Not once did anyone contact us with questions, explanations, or comments throughout the process. The end result was that we paid more in taxes this year than we have in the previous 35 years combined. If you prefer no communication and want to feel like just another file number, this may be the firm for you. However, if you expect responsiveness, guidance, or even basic interaction, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Keep in mind that any conversation with a staff member will cost you $350 per hour, even for something as simple as correcting a misspelled name , with billing applied accordingly. But, I must give one star for lack of professionalism at a very high price. I am a professional, and one that lives and dies by the billable hour. I understand and respect the fact that professionals such as accountants need and deserve to get paid for the time they work. But when their time goes over budget by three times, without any communication whatsoever to the client *before* the price goes through the roof, I get concerned. We hired Greg Burke from this firm last year for our taxes on the recommendation fo a friend. Admittedly, our taxes last year were a little complicated due to closing an estate, but when we questioned the bill, Greg became unresponsive. This year, we did not hear anything from him during January, so I sent an email checking in. We then got a contract in the mail, but I again questioned what the price was going to be this year. I reminded him that we never really got a clear answer as to why our bill was so high last year (and never got an itemized invoice on the hours billed), and I questioned why he hadn't communicated with us before that happened. We simply wanted to know where we'd end up this year, and given his experience with our returns, we felt he should be able to better estimate what it would be. His response was a bit confusing, without a definite number or range that we could expect. When I again tried to pin him down, his response was a one-line email saying we should find an accountant more in line with our budget. Here's the problem with his response: we were asking him what our budget should be, given that we were confused as to what happend last year, and things should be simpler this year with the estate being closed. His response was extremely unprofessional. If you are looking for a high-priced, non-responsive accountant, this is the right place. If you want someone to be open and accountable to you for the money they want you to pay, go elsewhere.
