Daisies Oxford Flowers - bride and bridesmaid

Daisies Oxford Flowers

(1 review)

Daisies is pretty famous in the florist world. Apparently quite a few Londoners place orders here,…read moresuch is its reputation. It's in the chic, rather bohemian area of Jericho, so fits in nicely with the little cafes and grocers. In their own words, they specialise in natural, stylish and contemporary flowers. Quite how flowers can be contemporary, I don't really know, but they certainly manage it. They're used by lots of the Oxford colleges for conferences and posh dinners, by local restaurants, such as the Old Parsonage Hotel, and for weddings, funerals, celebrations and personal greetings. The basic gist is that you go in or phone to discuss your requirements and they'll talk over your options. They seem quite flexible and the flower arrangements I've seen have been magnificent and long-lasting. They come in baskets, vases, pots and all sorts, so don't limit your thoughts to the humble plastic-wrapped bouquet. You pay for what you get, of course, and bouquets to order start at around £25 and rapidly get more expensive. Delivery is £5 for Oxford and £8 for elsewhere.

I can't quite make up my mind if this is really tacky or just verging on the side of quality gifts…read more Don't get me wrong - the items are good quality, but there just seems something slightly weird about buying baby clothes covered in the Oxford University logo, or a travel mug. Still, for tourists, proud parents, show-off students or wannabes, this is definitely the place to get university merchandise. It stocks: Clothes - hoodies, t-shirts, rugby shirts, polo shirts, ties, cuff-links, socks (yes, really!) and baby fleeces, all advertising the university in different levels of garishness. Gifts - teddies (including a cuddly dodo - don't ask!), cards, frisbees and games. Some are just normal products with an Oxford logo; others, like the Oxford jigsaws, are completely unique to Oxford. Household items - look out for the botanic gardens tea cosy, the tea towel and the porcelain. Perhaps one for granny. Books and calendars - if Blackwells and the OUP shop aren't enough for you, there's a heap of history books, coffee table picture books, diaries and calendars to bring the dreaming spires in to your home. Prices are reasonable for central Oxford, and whatever your views on the Oxford logo being splashed everywhere, it's still a heck of a lot classier than Eiffel tower keyrings in Paris or union jack underwear in London.

This shop does not have quite the selection of tourist trinkets that other stores carry, as it is…read morespecifically geared toward Oxford University. That said, the merchandise is of higher quality, or maybe just higher prices, but it is definitely more upscale. If you want something specific to Oxford this is your place. If you are looking for tourist souvenirs in general from the city of Oxford or England, you will be better off looking elsewhere.

I loved all the Harry Potter stuff in this store. If I could, I'd buy all of them. I also liked…read morethat they sold little snacks, in addition to the University of Oxford gear/accessories. They have £9.99 Harry Potter-themed necklaces that I couldn't say no to, and most of them are nice or decent-looking. The Hedwig and cauldron necklaces were lackluster. They have a decent variety for the scarves, sweaters, and jackets, and they had accessories galore. Lots of horcruxes and wands on display and for sale. They even had Slughorn's hourglass and Gryffindor's sword! The mirror on the wall is between a narrow hallway where some Harry Potter stuff are displayed and a wall on the left, so it's very cramped in that area. This is one of my two complaints. The other complaint is that the employees there are so down-on-the-dumps or have that "ok let's get this day over with" attitude. They were helpful in that they helped me view and get everything I asked for, but they were so monotonous and dull that it's like they've never been delighted in their lives before. Two more things before I end this.. I have to talk about the University of Oxford gear and British souvenirs. The other half of this store had University of Oxford gear and accessories on sale as well. There's a good variety of ties, jackets, sweaters, etc. on sale. In the middle of the store, there are typical British souvenirs you see in London. The red bus, red telephone booth, British cookies, tea bags, bookmarks, magnets, etc. This section was alright as far as variety went.

Went in here today to get some souvenirs for my family and I felt like a little kid in a candy…read morestore. There's a wide array of oxford hoodies, T-shirt's, and on top of that, Harry Potter stuff! I walked out with three oxford hoodies, a 9 3/4 coffee mug, and an oxford t-shirt. Little overpriced, but I understand why. After all, it is a tourist location. The woman who rang me up was rude, no smile or indication that I was welcomed and didn't ask if I found everything okay. Maybe it's just a UK thing, but if you want tourist money, make them feel welcomed!
