The Scottish National Party (SNP) is the party in government in Scotland.
In the 2007 Scottish election, the SNP won its first national election and formed Scotland's first minority government, with Alex Salmond becoming First Minister.
Now, it might seem weird to review a political party but I think it needs reviewing! It has grown from a minority party into a party which has real influence in Scottish politics and in politics in Edinburgh.
The party aims to create an independent Scottish state which has its own representation in the European Union and in world affairs. The party has grown steadily from the mid twentieth century with many ups and downs along the way. The 1974 General election was the party's best electoral performance until the 2007 Scottish election and 2009 European election.
The SNP has its headquarters (Very new and very modern) very close to the Scottish Parliament and as a student the staff have been very helpful whenever I have needed documents or information regarding my studies.
Will the party recover from the recent General election? Watch this space!! read more
