I had cancer surgery and without DR Scott Tobis I would not have Dr Tobis went bat for me when nobody else would. He had to talk to anthem blue cross when I was appealing my insurance company when they denied my surgery and we won. I cannot list everything he did for me. Without Scott I would not be here today. I met Dr. Tobis to discuss my prostate cancer diagnosis, and the current treatments available based on the severity of my cancer, he was very compassionate and helpful in discussing the topic of prostate cancer. Dr. Tobis preformed my surgery using the Da Vinci robotic system, and was able to remove my cancer with clear margins. He was very clear and informative on the procedure and what to expect post op. I was referred to Dr. Tobis and couldn't be happier that I went to him for my surgery. There wasn't any post operative concerns and I'm in the process of healing. On Friday January 22nd of this year, I called Dr. Tobis's office for a second opinion of a prostate cancer diagnosis that I had received that day. The staff member was very compassionate and kind, and gave me an appointment the following Monday on January 25th. From the moment that I walked into your clinic, I was greeted by professionals, that showed compassion and kindness, as well as showing that they loved their jobs. Dr. Tobis was amazing in reviewing my medical history and suggesting the treatment alternatives. He explained the treatments in detail, even drawing a picture for me, for deeper understanding. All the while, my wife was on FaceTime, able to hear and ask questions as well. We decided on a treatment, surgery, (as my doctor here, wanted active surveillance). [Surprising side note, my doctor here had run a further test that indicated immediate treatment was required but the results were not in until my surgery was already scheduled with Dr. Tobis]. Dr. Tobis, knowing that I was from out of town (three and a half hours away), scheduled laboratory and radiology tests right after his appointment. His staff and all the staff at the laboratories and radiology showed compassion, care, and kindness, while maintaining a high degree of professionalism and a very high skill set. Dr. Tobis has an amazing scheduler Karen Schuette (and Colby) who through the many calls, scheduled the surgery and the needed pre-op tests. They were always professional and kind, even though I probably call too often. During pre-op Dr. Tobis came by and again asked if I had any questions, showing that same personal care and kindness. He eased any anxieties that I had. He also came by after the surgery, showing compassion and kindness. He took his time with me to explain everything that would happen throughout my recovery. He was very personable and real with me. I know that he is very busy and much in-demand, yet made me feel as I was his only patient. My follow-up appointment a week after surgery with Dr. Golan was the same way. Dr. Golan was very personable, and professional, with a high skill set, showing compassion and kindness. He reviewed my test that I had taken the prior day with me and the results of pathology (Praise the Lord, no cancer outside of the prostate). He, like Dr. Tobis, and your entire staff showed extraordinary care and kindness throughout my journey with your clinic. The entire office and especially the surgical team were a pleasure to meet and work with. The process went very smoothly, from getting initial appointments through recovery. Late last year, for the first time in my 70 years, I began experiencing urinary problems. These difficulties came on fast and furious. I asked friends for recommendations and looked at reviews on the internet. Based upon this search and a recommendation of a friend, I chose the established practice - Urology Specialists of Santa Barbara, and was lucky to be able to be seen by Dr. Tobis. Dr. Tobis gave me a very thorough exam and was able to prescribe medicine which alleviated my problem. I was very impressed with Dr. Tobis, his knowledge and ability to relate to my issues. The medical staff is the most friendly and efficient staff I've ever dealt with in my life! I am now being followed by Dr. Tobis and plan to keep him as my urologist for the future. Dr. Tobis is personable, communicative and an patient advocate, even beyond his responsibilities. He current on research including some not yet published. He performed my prostate surgery (TURP) and was continually solicitous of me and my spouse. I've had some good urologists, but none so with all the qualities above. When I encountered red tape in the hospital bureaucracy, he made a strong attempt to cut through it. Character runs deep in this friendly and competent young man. read more
