Scott and his team did a great job re-landscaping my entire property. They took out all existing plants and then replanted the front, back and side yards with new perennials, sod, shrubs and trees. Woefully disappointed. Scott installed completely uneven Nicolock steps, but did return a week later to fix them. However, he acted like he was doing me a favor when he should have done the job right the first time. I requested specific colors, but Scott decided to pick his own (of course I didn't know it until each bloomed). I hate the color red, but am now stuck with three red plants and two red crape myrtle trees. When I called, he said the tags on the trees said pink and refused to replace them. I requested a cottage garden, but wound up with five gigantic grasses, three of which I paid to have removed, and a haphazard display of riotous colors that lack cohesion. The other day we had a major leak from our Koi Pond, not even 24 hours after this company came to our house to do their quarterly maintenance check there was so little water that our fish barely had any room left and could have easily died. I called the company to have somebody come out and see what happened, and I got nothing but the runaround from everybody I spoke to. I finally spoke to the owner (Scott) and was assured that someone will get back to me by end of day to rectify the situation. 5 days later and not a call, text or email back. This shows how much they value their customers. I cannot in good conscious recommend this company to anyone looking to use their "services". read more

This company does Christmas lighting for both my home and my parents home as well. We are highly satisfied with not only the work but with Mr. Anderson's staff. This company has the worst customer service ever. Their employees came to remove my lights and rang my doorbell without any masks/face covering on. As I simply ignored them on my home surveillance, I notice one worker with a chronic cough. When I contacted the company, a representative said "we don't wear masks." Wonderful to work with. Wanted astroturf in my backyard to train my dogs. My property was overrun with weeds and the ground wasn't level. I had approached several other landscapers and turf companies and the quotes I was receiving were equivalent to home down payments!!! I did some research and found affordable turf on Amazon but then discovered many of the landscapers would only put down turf from the companies with whom they were affiliated. Scott worked with me and made the project affordable. I was able to buy the turf from amazon and he supplied the heavy equipment, pea gravel and crew. He and his crew did an outstanding and highly professional job. Throughout the process he was responsive and communicative. Unfortunately we did not have a great experience with Scott Anderson Designs. We interviewed a few design companies prior to hiring Scott Landscape and Design and we thought that he shared our vision. When we were going through the list of what plants we were going to plant we trusted that the company would have the expertise on what plants would be needed and how big they would grow. What actually happened was that he recommended too many plants and trees. Once everything started growing in last year, instead of getting that backyard paradise that the company promises, I got a jungle. Everything started growing in and you couldn't appreciate anything because everything was suffocating. I actually spent the end of the season ripping out over a dozen plants purchased from Scott Anderson Design. It is very sad that a small business would just pad their invoice and add items that aren't actually needed and rip off a customer. Instead of family and friends coming over stating how much they love our backyard, they actually said who did this for you because it looks horrible. For anyone in the market for Landscape design I warn you not to use this company. Please do some research and hire a real company with some experience so you don't get ripped off like we did. read more

This review is about the landscape lighting practice of the company. The firm leads with a reasonable design and installation service. Afterward the practice is a horrible experience. You will hate this company's rip offs. To get add-on lights, the price is double. To get repairs, and I am talking about a nine month old installation, the company's office person says outages are caused by landscapers and animals breaking the underground lines. So the company charges $500 for two workers to enter the property for 2 hours minimum @$125 per hour. In my case, one of three zones was completely out which I explained. They spent the first 10 minutes looking over the two good zones and five minutes later found the problem, a failed electric outlet. They were in and out in 15 minutes. Effective cost was $2000 per hour. I offered to pay $100 and then pay another $500 for them to come back for their annual maintenance. There answer was no, we will be happy to take this $500 and another $500 to do the service. Their contractual terms also disavows responsibility for consequential damage to the property and forces the customer to agree to pay thousands more if you pay late. These are not good or fair people. Before you buy, ask for references from 5 year old installations. read more

I contacted Scott Anderson Design right after hurricane Sandy left a large tree on top of our house. Due to the angle and size of the tree, it was critical that it be carefully removed to avoid creating any additional damage to the house. Scott and his crew were quick to respond even despite road closures, localized flooding, power outages, etc. Within a few hours, they managed to safely remove the tree and clear away all debris. Scott is one of the most responsive and responsible contractor you can find. I hired him for a big ivy removal job in my old house. He also did landscape on my garden. He and his crew shows up on time everyday as promised. He delivers exactly what he says. His price is very competitive. I made the mistake of using another landscaper for a portion of my new house under the impression that new landscaper might have leverage with my village for permit and approval. Big mistake! Comparing the works between two landscapers, Scott's work ethics and professionalism is just way above a knotch. I'm currently hiring scott back for rest of my new property. They were efficient, clean and very helpful since we had a lot of questions regarding plants and our vegetable garden. They cleaned and spruced up my yard which was looking to be a disaster. Unfortunately my experience with Scott was not quite as stellar as these previous reviews. We hired Scott to clear some trees from our building's backyard area and place artificial grass. He offered a reasonable price and although he was based in LI, he had great reviews on his site (perhaps not the most impartial in retrospect) but also on Yelp so we hired him to do our job in Brooklyn. He was easy to deal with and pretty quick to respond to questions prior to doing the work which was promising. When he arrived on the job, we unfortunately had a less than amazing experience. It seemed that getting home to LI and beating Belt Parkway traffic was the priority during job instead of completing our job properly. There was a snafu with the placement of the grass. I asked him to fix it and although there was plenty of time, his reaction was not so pleasant. In the end he did fix the problem so we thought we were good to go. Unfortunately after he left we found stakes in the grass that were bent and carelessly placed and corners that were left un-tacked. When I notified him of the problem, he was unapologetic. He said that there was cement under the sand making it impossible to tack and that the artificial grass could be left as is. See pictures - I don't think so. He offered no alternate solutions. That's how he left the conversation. We are less this pleased. Fortunately we are handy and I will find a way to fix the grass (because there is a way despite what he said) but we are definitely not satisfied customers and I would really hesitate to recommend him to others. I had Scott and team do a bunch of landscaping around my house in Lido Beach this summer. It was a pretty big job: removal of a bunch of trees/shrubs/weeds/poison ivy/etc. Then planting 20 or so native plants around the yard. It looks really great, and Scott's team came in and did the job on schedule, and the entire thing only took a day and half. We were looking for an independent designer (not connected to a particular contractor) who could come up with a design that would meet all of our needs. We were extremely happy with the results.
