Before you post these ads on Facebook Train your staff in…read moreOakville. Barely one staff knew how to open New Comers account The lady there didn't explain anything for me . She didn't even give me a debit card. She was like "do you need a debit card" Then I ask her about the safety deposit box cuz CIBC has that offer. She was like "Oh you need safety deposit box, oh it's free the first year" She didn't tell me one thing you are offering All respectful banks when they meet a new comers they explain to them what the offer includes Safety deposit box (one year free) Chequing account (6 months free) Saving account CHEQUE book (if it's available in TD offer) ... etc She didn't mention anything . I had to ask first if this is available in the offer and then she would confirm YES What about people who don't have experience with other banks like me and know about new comers accounts ? How they gonna know about TD new comers offer if your employees are not trained well to explain to the customer everything they need to know about the offer She didn't even ask me for my landing paper and my driving license. I had to ask her if she needs these documents She just sat there starting at me Even online banking was hole different experience. She gave me the temp password and that's it She didn't explain if you guys have an app. And what I can do with that app When I opened my account at CIBC they explained the major things that the apple app does. They asked me if I have time to do the online banking. And when I said Yes The employee opened the website. Out the temp password and showed me how to log in for the first time and change my password She wrote the temp password so careless it's possible to read and when I tried to activate my online banking I got blocked for too many tries !!! Your employee didn't even offer me paper or paperless statement ? She didn't even ASK she was just printing printing paper. Sign sign and put it the big green package file She didn't give me my IBAN numbers so I can wire transfer money from outside ? It's a newcomer account for sure I need these information. But NO NOTHING Would you believe me if I told you she didn't even tell me what my chequing account number and my saving account number Who does that? She could at lease circle that number out of all these opera she gave me . Or told me where is it. That's really bad customer service. And she was in a rush the whole time. I was really uncomfortable And even for the Visa card offer for new comers. She didn't tell me about it (didn't try to sell your services to your potential customer ) I had to ask her if you guys have that offer. And she was like "oh yeah we have that do you wanna apply?" I don't know if I wanna apply if you didn't even offer it to me !!!! And btw I already booked an appointment before I went there and it was mentioned in my appointment that it was a NEW COMER NEW ACCOUNT If that branch not ready for that service why would I have the choice to book an appointment there Right ?

So when I walked into the First Ontario Credit Union just up the street and told the person behind the desk that I wanted to open an account, she replied, "Do you have an appointment?", it was no surprise. Well, actually, it was, because I'd never had to make an appointment to open an account before, but it was no surprise to be faced with a bureaucratic bank person trying to complicate things right off the bat. When I said that I didn't have an appointment, she looked in a book and shook her head, saying that I'd have to set up an appointment. "Wow, I've never had to do that before", I said, surprised. She said "Oh well, it's fairly standard". I turned and walked out. I've had a lifetime of dealing with smug bank clerks and I certainly didn't need any more. But at the time I was banking with an even more bureaucratic and smarmy "big" bank, and the location of this credit union was great, so I gave it another chance and phoned to set up an appointment. I'm glad I did. I've never had a bank go so far to make sure that I am a happy customer. My banking services are free. That's right: free. The exact same services I had previously paid for (either in fees or by maintaining a minimum balance) were now not costing me a cent. I set up a chequing account, two savings accounts and a GIC. I have the same (not-great-but-standard) interest on my savings account as I can get at the "big banks". I have a full service bank near my home, and each time I go back, the service is friendly. (So far, no more smug bureaucratic clerks, only nice ones). Unlike my former bank, I don't get telemarketing phone calls from this credit union trying to sell me more financial products or credit cards. Unlike another credit union, I don't get "robo-calls" telling me about all the great things they're doing. When I need help with my banking, I get it. Otherwise, we each go about our business. These days, I'm quite happy with my banking situation - something I never thought I'd say, but it's true. Who knew?
