That was a rather disappointing visit…read more I had a US check that I wanted to deposit into my US account. I get checks like this regularly and it's been a long time since they had to put one hold. I've been a customer of the bank for 8+ years and any teller can see my history. Well, as luck would have it, the teller that worked with me today wasn't having a good day. Or maybe she felt it was more important for her to be right than helpful. Out dialogue was like a sparring match. And the game was rigged from the very beginning. She was determined to win and today was my day to lose. First, she declared that since it's a US check, the money had to be on hold for 15 business days. 3 weeks! Really? I said that I deposit checks from this company every month and at different branches and they never go on hold. She said she couldn't verify the history since the account was new. Well, that particular account was three months old and some history was there. But if she wanted to see more, she'd just have to look at my other account. It was still not good enough for her. So much ado about a few hundred dollars? Like there was any risk for the bank. Even if the check bounced (which it wouldn't, because it was from a large and reputable company), the bank would get every penny back from me plus the NSF fee! Anyway, will take this check to another branch on Monday. And I've noticed banking fees have gone up significantly over the last year. Maybe it's time to look around. I was somewhat okay paying a bit more to have a bank that didn't treat me with suspicion and distrust. But if they are like every other bank then I can just go with the cheapest. Why pay more?
