We emailed them during the week to book for Saturday lunch and were told it was booked out, so it was surprising to arrive for a tasting to see more than half the tables were empty and be told we could have one as long as we cleared out in two hours time (People must do long lunches around here!) so always worth trying your luck. Food is decent without being mind-blowing: tasty fish and chips, calamari, burgers and meatball pasta were our choices and everyone left happy. The wines are hit and miss for me. Some really nice ones, others don't impress - but I should say that some of my tasting buddies had the opposite experience and loved what I didn't, and weren't taken with what i loved - so it's one of those that might polarise taste buds. Just gives you something to talk about over lunch.

They then called the day before the event and pulled the rug out from under us saying a wedding had booked out the entire venue, we'd been moved and drinks post could no longer happen. We tried to be civil and find a solution. There was no explanation for how they forgot there was a wedding on, not even an apology from Greg. The last part is what really kills me. If you work with this guy and think he's a twat, please take this as confirmation - your view is correct.

One of the women working the bar took a few minutes out to explain about their varietals. I recommend the tasting menu. The whole table needs to do it but its the best way to try a little bit of everything. If you want to go ala carte I recommend the flatbread pizzas! For wines try the sparkling blanc de blanc!

A decent selection of reds and whites, all solid in taste, and all pretty decently priced so the obligatory post-tasting buy wont break the budget - there's even a buy three get one free deal if you really get besotted by their vino. The cellar door is trying something new, and now has taken on selling fresh vegetables and freshly baked breads. There's also cheeses and other delicious delights to-go, making this a great stop for picking up things for a platter to enjoy at home with the bottle/s you left with. Then there's the second thing - beer. Next door in the restaurant/bar you can buy a tasting paddle for $15 and sample four of their beers - including an oyster beer if you dare. Their ginger and chocolate beers are the picks for mine. They also do decent desserts there, making this a 'threefer' for those sweet-tooths among us.

The second was simply, that they are only open one day a week: Sunday. One day 12-5pm, but they put on a bit of a show about it - music, paella - and draw in the crowds accordingly (might be tough going getting a park after 2pm). The place itself is magnificent - all re-purposed timber and cool/kooky touches, with artworks on display all around. Outside you have stunning vineyard views. Only loses a star because as a cellar door experience itself, it's kind of lacking. We were served by ring-in staff who had no idea about the wine and the pours were so stingy (for $5pp) you had to double check they had poured at all. Ignoring that though, it's the p;lace to be for a Sunday Session down Bellarine way and we'll be back for sure.
