Yes, we had chosen the time consuming of being our own general contractor and to fund then request reimbursement instead of accepting our insurance company's preferred restoration company. We are affirmed that no job is too small or too big indeed for our local Mr.Handyman of Burnaby. 2021Feb review - Looking for the options to either repair a broken soap dish attached to a 20+ years old tiled-tub-shower enclosure or to completely replace the whole shower enclosure. Contacting Mr. Handyman of Burnaby, New Westminster & North-Van and a few other similar business with A+ rating in Better Business Bureau (BBB). Mr.Handyman is the only business that care to respond by giving an $+time estimate of repairing that soap dish along with the option of replacing the whole shower. This already set Mr.Handyman above the other business in term of responsiveness. We found out further, during the estimation and actual work process, that Mr.Handyman is also above the rest in term of values, quality (experience) and professionalism. Details: Tim Boothman, the owner, gave us the simplest option of replacement and the flexibility to choose either to engage him labor only or labor+material (shower enclosure). We chose labor only and got a very pleasant surprise how Tim had generously, honestly and patiently (long 2 months email communication) gave us the information we need during our quest for that ideal enclosure, without knowing that we will give the job to him. This alone is suffice to make us decide giving our business to Mr.Handyman. Striving for accountability, fairness and avoiding unwanted surprise, we had requested and opted to pay a bit more to turn the estimate into a firm flat price contract, even after being offered less charges for if work done is less and cap it at the contract price if more. (Mr.Handyman's contract amount is less or at most *at par with the other estimates we received from similar competitors). *some companies include 'asbestos test' for questionable reasons. The installation was scheduled and carried out on time by a polite and cheerful Service Technician, Geoff Coulter. He corrected an improperly arranged water shut-off valve done by our strata original contractor 20+ years ago so that we can access it easily without shutting off the main valve. His mild-mannerly averted a situation incited by one of our strata neighbor who probably got up from the wrong side of the bed and decided to be nasty on Geoff's first day working in our unit. The highlight was the 2nd day when Tim and Geoff managed to bring the bulky middle-part of the shower unit down a set of stairs to maneuver it into the bathroom without damaging any wall or door. The 3rd day, our Made in Canada, 100% acrylic multi-piece Maax Camelia (from Lowes), TriplePlus shower door and shower head (from Rona) were successfully installed. The work area clean, debris removed and a finishing paint was scheduled. Our new shower has been functioning beautifully well since (work completed on 25Mar2021). Adding to our peace of mind, Mr. Handyman includes 1 year warranty for all their work. We are fortunate to have Mr.Handyman as our reliable handyman and would be very happy to recommend them personally.

Is it possible to find a 5-star contractor? Well, I honestly thought that the answer was NO until I…read moremet Steve. I am a picky person with background in Architecture and Design. A lazy rushed contractor doesn't work for me. After so many frustrations and searches for the perfect contractor, I randomly found Steve. Basically when I searched for a contractor to renovate my two nasty bathrooms and fix all the leaking problems that had happened for the past 18 years, I came up with a short list of contractors. I had met a few of them, but when I met Steve for a quick chat, I felt that was the guy! He seemed to be so proactive, technical, intelligent and clever. He was the person I wanted: I guy with good eyes for great finishing, respecting what the client wants and, the main thing, focusing on solving real problems and not just talking about pretty light fixtures. And I gladly hired him right away! My 2 bathrooms look so perfect! All the small details where carefully done and in the way I wanted. Always sharing the possible problems and solutions. Steve not only fixed all the plumbing, electrical and structural problems, but upgraded everything for high end quality service and products. And more... he did not only beautifully renovate our bathroom, but figured out problems in my building that existed for at least the last 10 years! Steve became popular among my neighbors and everybody loved his presence in the building. Not only because he is a such a good professional guy that helped the neighbors, but because he was nice, pleasant and honest person that everybody was glad to see around. Yes, that's Steve. Some even said Steve felt like part of the family! He is also a very clean contractor. The reno happened while we were living in the condo. As he understands well how physics works, he knew exactly what to do to not spread dust to the rest of the areas like living room and bedrooms. Yup. Sounds impossible, but that happened. When he was producing dust, he always vacuumed everything at the end of the day. Steve had free access to my condo for several months and I fully trusted in him. He respected the time to come to our place and leave. Finally, the reno took longer than I thought, but at the end of the day, it is totally understandable when he works by himself always making sure that he is doing his best and also making sure I was happy with his work. I'd would rather going through a long reno with someone that I fully trust than 10 strangers doing whatever work to finish everything in a month, so 10 years later you would have to deal with problems. That is not an option for me at all. Not even if I was going to sell my place right after. In 2015 / 2016 Henderson Construction did a full blown renovation on our house; almost on time and…read morealmost on budget (hey - it's a project) During the cold snap in late February 2024 we discovered a previously unknown condensation issue on a portion of the pergola attached to the house. The issue resulted in some ice build up which resulted in water dripping from the ceiling of the pergola. We called Jeff who sent his Construction Manager (Shawn) to do some exploratory work to see if he could determine the root of the problem; in turn Shawn brought in some additional crew to pull apart some of the ceiling sections to find the problem. Nothing came to light as to the cause. Jeff brought back the insulation contractor who checked to ensure that the insulation work was not the cause of the issue (it wasn't). Jeff then brought in a Thermal Engineer to do a complete survey of our house, including thermal imaging to try locate any warm spot(s) that could cause the condensation problem. The Engineer determined that there was a small void attic area that was trapping heat from the house and was not vented correctly so as to prevent the condensation issue. On the recommendation of the Engineer, Jeff brought back the original roofer who installed appropriate venting which should prevent the condensation issue from happening again (will have to wait for the next cold snap to see if it worked). Shawn and the crew retuned after the vent installation and put everything back together, as though it had not been touched since the original construction had been completed. Have always been impressed with the professionalism of Jeff and the Henderson crew. This issue was not pushed to the back burner to be dealt with when convenient (or after all his previously scheduled work was completed), it was addressed quickly and efficiently (maybe 10 days in total). Jeff's attention to the matter further convinces me that Jeff and crew take great pride in the quality of their work and stand by their workmanship. My pleasure to recommend Jeff to anyone considering a renovation project. Also, a special call out to Curt at Synthesis Design who also stepped in to provide his expertise and opinion. What I liked about the references Jeff provided is that many of them had used Henderson Construction a number of times, and all of them would hire Jeff again. Add us to that list. The workers showed up on time, worked hard and were always courteous and polite. Even the City inspectors commented on the high quality of the workmanship. We learned the hard way to do our due diligence and to ignore low bids. Also to ignore BBB ratings. Henderson Construction's bid was in the middle of the pack.
