I first got in contact with Jackie with nautical remodeling on the 17th to weather strip my doors…read more I didn't look much into nautical remodeling since it was suppose to be a simple job and I thought Angie's list only had licensed contractors. Jackie contacted me saying he would like to stop by on the afternoon of the 20th. When he got there I called him and stated I wanted the front door, back door, upstairs porch door weather stripped, couple floor trims to be glued down, 3 striker plates installed. He stated the front door is warped but he said the door is worth saving since it's a 3k door just needs to be taken completely down off the hinges to be worked on and sanded to make it stop rubbing the floor on the outside corner. He quoted me $1400 for everything and I agreed to pay $1400 since he stated he needed to take down the front door to sand/work. But he never sent a contract over and refused to send an itemized list. He also told me if I needed anything else to contact him I told him on January 21st that the heater on the bottom level wasn't working and the water was cold. He stopped by the next day on January 22nd when the roads were open to check out that issue but never fixed anything, didn't even bring tools and couldn't even figure out how to use the attic ladder so nothing got done. On the 23rd since he didn't fix the heater I sent him the home warranty I had stating he doesn't have to worry about the heater and tankless water heater. The next couple days had ice on the roads so he didn't come, stated he would come on the 24th. Ended up rescheduling again for the 25th. He was really late and immediately started backing out of the work we agreed on. Did not want to take the front door down to work on it and just put cheap weatherstrip on it. Did not put weatherstrip on the back door and upstairs door to the porch. Did not glue down floor trims, did not install the 3 striker plates. Then left without offering any money back. I called him and said he needs to atleast install the striker plates. He said he would Monday on January 27th but never showed up and I had to contact him asking where he is and he told me he couldn't come then we rescheduled for Wednesday January 29th. He was late again but installed the striker plates. All he got done in all that time was weatherstrip/doorsweep on the front door that was falling off on front door and install 3 striker plates. That shouldn't have taken more than 2 hours to do all that. Was late every day he showed up most days he didn't. extremely rude to everyone at the house, and never offered any money back. Would not recommend any use nautical remodeling and to stay away from Jackie O'Neal if that's even his real name. Also address doesn't appear to exist according to my attorney when they mailed a letter of representation and demand against nautical remodeling. If you for some reason want to do business with them make sure to get everything recorded on text, email, or written contract. Jackie will do his best to do all business over the phone so there's the least amount of proof on record. Also does not appeared to be licensed through the Better Business Bureau and Alabama Licensing Board for General Contractors which was not stated upfront.

Michelle O'Neal (DBA Nautical Remodeling) and Jackie O'Neal (Nautical Remodeling Contractor) were…read morehired to finish an over-the-garage bonus room. When we hired this contractor, both were asked if they had the personnel and trades to execute the job, and we were assured they did. Within the contract, Nautical Remodeling included a 6-week schedule to complete all the work, and at week 26, after being served a demand letter to complete the work, they threatened to file bankruptcy. Jackie O'Neal told us he was taking care of scheduling subcontractors and ordering materials / equipment but found out many weeks later that was not the case. Up to this point, Nautical Remodeling mis-managed and wasted $45,000 in budget, then wanted more saying their labor was the reason. We told them that we would not give them any additional funds. At that time, Nautical Remodeling told us they would finish the job, but on their terms and with timeline, stating they would have to work other jobs to help fund our project. In addition, they also told us that we are getting the project for free, although we already paid them $45,000 to complete the work. I competitively bid this project and all bids were around 10% apart, so telling me he under-bid the project is not an excuse I would expect from someone who says, "I've been doing this for 30 years". We can only assume they are doing this to everyone they do business with, and our money was not used for our project. During the process, we never agreed to an open -ended schedule, and they always attempted to stall, tell us lies and delay our fully funded project. Near the end, I even purchased the remaining $5,500 dollars' worth of materials and asked if they would be onsite to install those materials once received. Nautical Remodeling said yes, but those materials were never installed. After more than 20 weeks into the project, I could only get about one (1) full day of work per week out of them, and then they accomplish very little. I was continually told that they cannot provide me with a schedule to finish, continually told workers will be onsite on days, but they never show. And although we are at the house waiting on them, they never cared to communicate any changes to schedule or plan. Nautical Remodeling does not have any regard for their clients and has shown a level of unprofessionalism, mismanagement, deception, and incompetence that I have never seen before. From research, this is not the first time these individuals associated with Nautical Remodeling have had client issues, and issues that led to legal problems. Be aware that this group is also doing business as "Windbreaker Remodeling", probably along with other names. DO NOT hire Nautical Remodeling, and don't let what happened to us happen to you!
