I read the review from an unhappy adopter of a dog named doll face. I am the volunteer office manager and I know this adopter was told all about this dog before the dog was driven to her and adopted by her. (she wrote the check no one forced her) . We are all volunteer and we have learned from this bad experience that people are not always what they appear and we made the mistake of thinking a vet reference and zillowing her home was sufficient. It was not. We always take our dogs back but we don't return fees when people adopt dogs and change their minds and one day yes the next no and assured us before we brought the dog that they had experience with special needs dogs. We always fully disclose, to not disclose invites returns and is horrible for the dog. I know our Founder spoke to the adopter before the foster and a trusted volunteer talked her into adopting Doll Face to this woman. The Founder shared with the adopter her concerns about a special needs dog in a home so far a way with a new adopted baby and the adopter was certain this was the dog for her. She changed her mind and we finally urged her to return the dog as we were getting worried about the dogs care. . The adopter returned the dog to our vet (but forgot to bring the eye meds the dog needed twice daily) and her vet and our vet both missed fox tails in the ear but our vet found them upon this more extensive exam. They were removed and the dog's eyes are on the mend and one skin flap was removed. The dog is living in a foster home that did not find the dog in the bad shape the adopter reported. Clearly the dog is special needs and was advertised before adopted.. That was what the adopter said drew her to the dog in the first place!!! The dogs one eye is back to normal and we hope the second eye will follow with thorough attentive care. We always take our dogs back. We fully disclose behavior and medical conditions as we know about them and what makes this so disingenuous is the adopters interest in the dog because she had special needs and then this very disturbing knock on our rescue. We both had a part in this mishap. As I understand it from the transporter of Doll Face to this adopter the dog and transporter and adopter spent about an hour with each other and the adopter was happy with Doll Face upon meeting and departure with the dog. We will never forgot a home check again (we simply overlooked by a well intentioned volunteer who believed all she was told) And our adoption fee return policy is we return half the adoption fees when we feel like people are being forthright and upfront with us. Their employee divya is a local scam artist that steals dogs on lost and found facebook group and rehomed them illegal. This person filed for bankruptcy and started a new cash rescue before filing bankruptcy but didn't report that part of her income. She works with a man that threatens to harm people and uses bully tactics threatening to send groups of people to older peoples home through an app called next-door. They were fired from frontstteet as volunteers for their behavior of flipping dogs and threatening . They recently were involved in a scandal where divya harassed a young black woman who also worked with this rescue so she could try and take over scooters and remove the trainer so they could move in to the property. Multiple texts and recordings are available in a Facebook group about her scam and talking bad about the founder of this rescue and selling dogs unaltered with another felon that was kicked out of scooters . Do not adopt a dog without getting records and a full vet clearance. Most of the dogs don't see a vet and they knowingly sell dogs with health issues and don't disclose it . They had multiple animals seized and lied about it saying they weren't theres when there was documented proof that a lot of dogs were theirs including a pit bull that scooters allowed another foster to abuse and neglect that they sent down read more

We showed up to an adoption event that a woman named Divya told us to go to in order to adopt a bichon we inquired about. The dog was already gone before we got there and we got to the event around the time she stated. When we arrived, there were tons of people fighting to try and adopt this dog and a lot of unhappy people. This woman that works with scooters pals stated that the adoption fee was 500 yet the dog had no real medical done and was scared and very shut down. I almost wanted to cry for this dog and take her home, but with unknown medical I did not want to shell out 500 plus more money to get her proper medical treatment that they did not. Come to find out after a friend tags me in a post that these people are under investigation and that this woman that works for scooters keeps multiple dogs locked up in her home. she was removed as a foster from another organization. this started to make sense about the lack of socialization with these dogs. at the adoption event she had puppies and other dogs fighting each other and trying to mount each other in a tiny play pen. all of the dogs seems unsocialized and not happy. One can only wonder what goes on behind closed doors with these rescues. I ended up adopting the perfect dog elsewhere after making the long trek down. read more

I love being a volunteer and foster mentor for Scooters Pals. I am a no nonsense person when it comes to animal rescue, and I will call out any rescue doing things that raise an eyebrow. Scooters literally pours every dime they have into their rescue animals. I love the founder Susan, she allows me to pull the dogs and cats that other rescues pass over. I recently rescued and fostered a blind and diabetic senior named Nora that I was able to give hospice care to until the end. The volunteers work hard and even though the system is not perfect *what rescues is?* the dogs all find safe homes to go to and find their forever family. To date, I have pulled over 16 dogs, and adopted out over 8. I run my own small rescue in Davis, but I will always be there to help other rescues and be there for the animals. I have been able to bring in about $1200 in funds for Scooters alone, and will continue to support them. I focus on fostering the older senior dogs for them that are at risk for euthanasia. I believe in full transparency and all of my adopters love that they know exactly what they will have to commit to when adopting some of these seniors that have had hard lives. read more

I had an AMAZING experience with Scooter's Pals when I adopted my chihuahua Louie from them over 3 years ago. The founder Susan and volunteer Lori spent lots of time talking with me as I spent lots of time trying to find my perfect dog. They let me meet several dogs that fit into the category of dog I was looking for, there was absolutely no pressure, and I got to do a "trial run" (a couple weeks with the dog with no obligation, just to make sure he would fit into my fur-family and my life). They were very attentive to my needs as well as making sure that my home and other dogs in it were appropriate for the dog I was interested in. After Louie was officially adopted by me, Susan and Lori were more than happy to take their time to answer some questions I had about him. In fact, I was so impressed with my experience with Scooter's Pals that I began volunteering at their adoptathons, and continue to volunteer with animal rescue and welfare to this day. Denise Cain from Scooter's Pals was helpful and friendly on the day I called for information about a dog I had found on Petfinder. Although that dog had been adopted out, Denise stayed in contact with me and on that evening delivered Pippin the Pomeranian to our kitchen. Denise was helpful in many ways, and her commitment to the well being of Pippin and all of the Scooter' Pals dogs was obvious. She helped to problem solve and was timely in delivering forms. Pippin had fleas and had to go to Riverdogs, a wonderful experience, for grooming. Scooter's Pals covered the bill as promised. When I took him in to get neutered, Scooter's Pals covered that bill as promised. I was deeply impressed with the Denise's enormous heart, her stamina, and her love of dogs. PIppin has gifted our family in ways too numerous to name, and we have Denise and Scooter's Pals to thank. read more

My experience with adopting my boys, Charlie and Leroy was amazing. I spoke with Divya on the phone prior to our adoption and told her that I was looking to adopt 2 dogs at the same time. That I wasn't looking for a puppy as both of us are retired and therefore not up to training a puppy. We had just had our last senior dog pass away and we missed his company. She told me about several dogs she has in foster and that most people will adopt girls over boys and younger vs older dogs. My boys would be considered middle aged at 7 years old. She selected a perfect fit for us from her group. Charlie came from Nevada City and Leroy from Roseville where they were being fostered. They have become best buds and have settled into our lives very nicely. They love walks and cuddles. Get along great with our grandkids. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. read more

scooter's pals is ALL volunteer so that explains the impact of having no staff and we could be better organized which we are happy to say we are working on. I point out many shelters pay their staff director up against $180,000 a year which is about our entire budget. All our or most of our donations go to our animals care and most of that is vet services and surgeries. We do not reimburse for person expenses all our volunteers are generous with their time and care of our animals. We thank everyone for their support and help with the animals in need. I inquired about a dog, and after email communication back and forth with a woman and coming to an adoption event, I was blown off and walked away from the adoption event after driving all the way out without the dog I had my heart set on. The woman was extremely rude, and I felt my time was wasted, and that only people who looked wealthy were helped. Essentially, they judge you based on how you look for adoption, and only people with checkbooks had priority adopting. Very sad and heartbreaking. No real home checks done, other people just showed up and took a dog home. read more

I have adopted 2 dogs from Scooters Pals. They are a "last chance" rescue, and my sweet chihuahua's would be long dead if it weren't for Scooters. They were very helpful and supportive when I adopted, and paid large vet bills on my dogs getting them ready for adoption (way more than the adoption fee). They screened me closely, and I became a foster for them due to my positive experience. read more
