My children are now in high school but attended Science Explorers' after-school and summer camp programs for years. We loved it so much I eventually became an instructor. In first grade they were building circuits, making volcanoes, learning about acoustics and sound waves. They are now taking high school physics and applying these same concepts they learned so many years ago. So much of what they learned in Science Explorers was embedded, but what I love most is that they learned science was fun. They now watch YouTube videos about the universe for fun and frequently come to me saying, "Mom, did you know this about the planets...or this piece of info about our closest galaxy...or???" There is a through-line between these conversations and Science Explorers. They also gained the confidence to build and work with real tools and these skills are employed in our home regularly. Now that they're older and their school science has gotten more advanced, I see them connecting concepts to the activities they participated in. I can't recommend the program enough. I was fortunate to have been one of of the judges many years ago for the Ben Franklin Business Plan Competition for very young businesses. Science Explorers presented and was the overwhelming winner, to my great pleasure. Science Explorers teaches core science concepts in a fun, hands-on class where each child creates a project that they can take home. The process reinforces the science concepts, fosters curiosity, and builds self-esteem. I volunteer with Science Explorers at a disadvantaged school. The program comes only 6 times per school year, and I am always amazed at the retention the students have of the previous lessons. I highly recommend it. read more
