Hans was the absolute picture of good hosting, recommending a special combination platter, designed specifically for our multiple kids and dietary constraints. Granted, and admittedly, it was in part for the establishment's own ease, as close to closing as it was and the obvious complexity of an 8-top order.
Still, it turned out to be exactly fitting and perfectly presented in family meal style--meat stick, sausages, schnitzel, and various meat stuff, along with jewich (Croatian style) rice, french fries, and a wonderful paprika/aubergine (that's eggplant for you non-sophisticates) paste that went very well with the meat and the spaetzle. In addition, we received deliciously refreshing salads with a marvelous array of veggies and a vinaigrette dressing that was perfectly un-oily and subtly savory-sweet.
The locals in attendance were so incredibly friendly and provided lovely fellowship, generally amplifying the sense of welcome and charm that this little place oozed.
In short, the food was terrific (my husband, a veteran of a 3-year deployment to Germany, said it was the best meal he'd ever been served, and specifically, the best schnitzel he'd ever had), the customer service was simply flawless, and the atmosphere was quaint and wonderful. Hans was undoubtedly one of the highlights of our experience here, and I hope he'll be around if you stop in too.
