Wow, we had a great experience. There were 23 of us, two tables, and all ordered burgers, from…read moreMango burger, Jack fruit burger, old fashioned, pesto turkey burger, to BBQ veggie burger. Beers, water, apple juice, half beer/half lemonade. The 3 servers who we interacted with were efficient, friendly, and weren't overwhelmed with our large group. We got suggestions and hints on best burger choice. Nice outsideish garden, clean two stall toilet, pleasant experience. I would go back, but to be honest, go with a very large appetite, or order one with light sauce, as most of us ended up really full.

Waiting nearly 1 hour for a burger that you didn't order, or being told that you'd have to wait another 30 minutes for the correct one. The one other person who joined me received the correct burger (with fries, in which he didn't order) only to find out that the people next to us received our food, and we theirs. They didn't care or notice that their food was wrong and went about eating my potentially delicious burger. I on the other hand was totally not satisfied, especially not with the customer service of the waitress and bartender. They both just wanted to place the blame elsewhere rather than to solving the issue. The waitress wouldn't even ask the cook to expedite my burger but had no problem asking me to wait 30 more minutes and to have my partner eat alone. Not acceptable, not our first time here, and won't be back.

The bratwursts were delicious and we were very happy with the fare. However, we realized we found our appetites and hadn't ordered enough food. We tried to get the waitress's attention multiple times (6-10 times), but she ignored us, even as other tables were served and left. Finally, at 8:45 PM, we managed to get her attention to order more food, only to be told the kitchen was closed, despite it actually closing at 9:00 PM. I asked if I could have some bread for my hungry 1.5-year-old, but she walked away without taking an order. My father eventually went inside and spoke with the bartender, and we were able to place and receive extra food and beverage. I'm sharing my experience because I felt we were treated differently from other patrons, possibly because I'm Chinese and my son is biracial (my husband is white, British and American). No one should be treated differently based on race, gender, age, or sexuality. My son won't remember this, but I will. This was my first trip to Germany, and I believed here we would be treated equally. I certainly hope that when my son is my age and travels with his family, this won't happen to him. Change starts somewhere, and I hope this note contributes to a better tomorrow. P.S. The bartender stopped by our table and acknowledged our frustration and made it up to us.

While wandering the old town and it's very nice market (and enjoying abundent gluewhein mit flaming rum) we settled down for a nice lunch at Schlenkerla. Great choice! First, the smoked beer. Not my favorite, but hey, when in Bamberg ya gotta try it. The menu was not extensive but that's not a negative. I think too many restaurants offer too many choices with too little quality. Not a problem here. My friends ordered gulasche soup; a baked potato with salad combination plate (with two "small" baked potatoes drenched with what appeared to be fifteen pounds of butter); very tasty sausage with very, very tasty sauerkraut; and what I ordered: Bamberg style stuffed onion with mashed potatoes. I thought I was being virtuous. I must rethink my definition. The two very large onions were stuffed with a pork/bacon/bread/herb mix then roasted. Delicate taste that paired beautifully with mashed potatoes and smoked beer/beef stock sauce. Wunderbar! Look, I'm not a fan of tourist traps. Schlenkerla is certainly well-promoted to all of the tour operators, but most of the diners were obviously local. The menu was the same for all, as was the service. Excellent choice, and highly recommended.
