The asparagus came with a great butter and breadcrumbs sauce which drizzled on the potatoes was amazing. As silly as it sounds the boiled potatoes were the best I've ever had. Perfectly cooked through but not mushy and they kept their shape. Pretzel was excellent as was the pork schnitzel, pounded thin and perfectly fried. We finished with apple strudel with ice cream, which was just ok, maybe a 3 for me. The waitress was quite surly and we had to chase her down to order after sitting there for 15 minutes without anyone coming to the table. That was the only real downside, though I noticed other tables were getting served quickly, so maybe it's a one-off thing only. Restaurant is quite big with lots of seating, many beer options and nice clean bathrooms downstairs as well.

Walking in the door gives you the feeling of dining in a Bavarian beer hall where there are plenty of locals enjoying the atmosphere. For us tourists, photos are included for most of the menu selections. I tried their signature dish: knuckle with cabbage and a potato dumpling. Even the half portion was huge! The veal schnitzel and steak entrees were also delicious. My server spoke little English, so knowledge of German would be a plus if dining here. The restaurant seems to be known for their beer and has quite a selection, however, a smaller wine menu is also available. I would definitely recommend making a reservation or coming early. As my friends and I were leaving, the line for entry was out the door.

The first thing I wanted to ensure was that this restaurant accepted Apple Pay. I asked one of the waiters inside if they took Apple Pay, and he looked annoyed. When it was confirmed they took Apple Pay, I said, "Okay, I'd like to dine here then." I was a solo diner, and he said, "Okay, well, sit wherever you want." Once I sat down, I began to peruse the menu. Another waiter came over to take my order and began speaking German to me. I told him that I unfortunately don't speak German, and he got annoyed and kept speaking German. I ended up pointing to the items I wanted to order, but already wasn't feeling great about my experience. I ordered the Pork Vienna Schnitzel, and it was the most disappointing meal I have ever had. To be frank, I've had better Vienna Schnitzel in the United States at German-themed restaurants. The breading on the Vienna schnitzel was very puffy and fell off. There was no flavor to the food at all, and it was very bland. I simply ate the food out of sheer hunger, since I hadn't eaten since 7 AM that morning, and it was almost 2 PM by then. I finally paid and left, but I did not feel welcomed in the facility, and the food was a bust. Hopefully, other American tourists have better experiences here than I did.

The menu is very meat orientated, particularly Pork. I had a delicious cheese soup to start followed by a main course consisting of three kinds of pork sausage and a processed gammon steak. This was served with a dumpling the size of a tennis ball and hot sauerkraut. I was a bit wary of the sauerkraut, but it wasn't the cold, pickled kind, but rather hot and freshly cooked. I quite enjoyed it. Service was fantastic and we had some delicious Paulaner Pilsner draught beer. Very comfortable environment to pass a couple of hours. I hope to return, possibly in the summer to enjoy the outdoor seating with a delicious cold beer.

Our first meal in Germany was by far the best…read more We were staying in Schoenberg and absolutely starving after our flight. Goldener Stern was one of the top results near us so we figured we'd give it a try. To this day, I can still taste everything. We sat outside and got right to ordering. We went for the liver dumpling soup and white sausage and pretzel starters, and the Leberknödel and Schweinebraten entrees. We also got a few rounds of .5L beers. The soup was ridiculous. The liver dumpling is literally liver ground up into a matzah-like ball. It was incredible, absolutely tasty and so flavorful. The broth was slightly sour, which contrasted nicely with the heavy meat. It was also at this point I realized we were taking a break from the saltiness of Italy and back to sodium levels I could handle. Those sausages were so amazing. Coming from Rochester, I'm no stranger to white hots, but these were a whole new experience. The flavor that exploded from the natural casing was the best. The accompanying pretzel was soft and doughy, and the mustard was strong-flavored with a slight hint of sweetness. If I had known about the amazingness of this dish, I would've made a meal of them. Our entrees were equally delicious. The pork and gravy was very tender. The favorite of that dish was definitely the cabbage. It was broken so much it held its shape but went down easy. It had a slight spice flavor to it which was fortunately not too sweet. I would've eaten a whole plate of just that. My ox was an interesting cut of meat, especially in combination with the herb butter. The potatoes were delicious, with bits of super crispy skins, although it pushed the dish towards the heavier end. We were too full for dessert, and the meal was very satisfying. For our first meal in Berlin, the bar was set very, very high. Flavor, quality, service, portions, price: Goldener Stern has it all.
