My family and I had the opportunity to sail with Schooner Appledore on our recent trip to Maine. The weather was foggy and unfortunately we weren't able to see much. However, the crew was absolutely terrific and kept us entertained for the duration of the sail! They were very knowledgeable, funny and Jess makes great drinks! We would recommend this activity to anyone. Thanks again for an awesome experience, guys! P.S. Try a Dark & Stormy. Then, drink a John Daley! read more

The captain and crew were friendly but there really wasn't any commentary. Unless you enjoy drinking and just slowly sailing along it was a little boring. read more

I enjoyed my 2 hour trip with them, the crew are very nice, funny and friendly..they serve different kinds of drinks, bloody mary and dark & stormy are the good ones! The ride was smooth and overall great ambience! read more

Camden's best sailing tour! The crew is fun and knowledgable but they are also personable! We laughed the entire 2 hours! Thx especially to Laird! We will make sure to bring lots of friends next time! read more

Captain Chris and his crew were a delight. One of the highlights of our trips to Maine. Definitely recommend getting off the shore and getting on the water. read more

Very friendly captain and crew. A smooth sail on a historic boat - with drinks and beer. My wife and I had a very pleasant time. Recommended! read more

My friend and I took a lovely two hour mid day cruise last week on Appledore, a schooner built in 1978. Crew was great - funny, friendly, and informative, but not intrusive. The weather was perfect as we sailed on Penobscot Bay enjoying views of the lighthouse, coastal homes and islands. We were lucky to have a sail with less than 20, instead of 58 or so. We were staying in beautiful Camden, Maine, for the first time and our sail was the highlight of our visit. We highly recommend this sail! read more

Well, I don't know what happened to our cruise but it was nothing like the other reviews stated. We did a 10 o'clock cruise. The captain or crew did not give us any information about the harbor landmarks or anything like that. They did give a brief history of the boat. Other than coming around to see if we wanted any cocktails we saw very little of the Crew. The only redeeming factor of this cruise was that they made a killer bloody Mary read more

We had a great time today! It was cold and windy but the blankets really helped! The crew was fun and the drinks were good! Thanks for a great time! A must do no matter what the weather, just dress warm and you will be fine! read more

The crew was friendly, knowledgeable, and entertaining! Captain Chris shared a remarkably long shanty poem that he memorized and was spoken in true sailor spirit including sailor accent. I went out with my husband and elder Aunt and each had enjoyed the sail and experience! Highly recommend this sail. read more

Absolutely a wonderful time with a fantastic crew! Yep!!!....this a must do. Happy sailing

My family of 5 did a 2 hour tour and had an awesome time. Fun for the whole family. Beautiful vistas. Captain Jeff and the crew were exceptionally nice and knowledgable. So nice in fact that one of the guys, Laird, saw us at a restaurant the following day and put $20 toward our bill. We had no idea he was even there, and we didn't get a chance to thank him because he had already left. So, a big thank you from the Pikes, Laird, wherever you are! Check these guys out. They're great! read more

Schooner Appledore - Boating Near Me - Camden, Maine

We had a fantastic time aboard the Appledore for their Sunset Cruise. The purchase and boarding process is very easy and the boat is very roomy. We had plenty of room to sit a large group (seven) together in the mid section of the boat. The drinks are tasty, strong enough, and reasonably priced (Bloody Marys and Dark and Stormys are the specialties). The sail is very beautiful. You will get some great sunset shots and a wonderful view of the lighthouse. Two or three of the guests will be asked to help hoist the sails....another great photo opportunity. The best part of the Appledore experience is the crew!! They are all very friendly and circulate through the guests telling stories about their experience on the schooner in both Maine and Key West. I believe the crew changes sometimes ... We were lucky to have Captain Chris and Crewman Jan. read more

We just returned from a family trip on the Appledore Schooner in Camden Maine. It was wonderful!! The crew was extremely helpful, humorous and caring. They told us about the schooner, it's history, and the safety features. They told us about the landscape and the beautiful islands. They served us promptly with drinks and gave us awesome hors d'oeuvres. They took great care to make it an awesome 2 hour cruise. Our family of 12 loved it! read more

Nice afternoon spent on Penobscot Bay in Camden, ME. The crew was friendly and accommodating and chatted with guests while serving drinks and working the sails. There wasn't much wind but it was pleasant to be out on the water on such a unique boat on a warm summer day. read more

Enjoyed our first ever sail and it was on the Apple Dore in Camden Maine. The crew were very knowledgeable and nice. Price was reasonable for a 2 hour ride. They have blankets if you need them (we did)! They also sell beer, water and soda. We would highly recommend this trip. read more

The Appledore and it's crew are top notch! I come to Camden every summer and there is no other schooner I will go on, the Appledore is the best of the best. The crew is so knowledgeable of the area and the Bloody Mary's on board are THE best in Maine, HANDS DOWN! You've tried all the rest, now try the best!! Appledore all the way! read more

I was initially reluctant to go on this boat, because I tend to get seasick. But it was a relatively calm evening so it all worked out. The crew was friendly, helpful and spent time talking with each guest which was very nice. They answered questions on all sorts of sailing-related topics and shared funny stories with us. They served us outstanding appetizers, such as grilled caprese, humus-stuffed baby peppers and some really well-seasoned shrimp with perfect cocktail sauce. Drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) were available for a fee. Blankets were available in case you got cold, which I did. We sailed out to North Haven Island and back just in time to see the sun sinking behind Mt. Beatty. A very lovely and relaxing evening sail. Highly recommend. read more

A lovely sunset sail into Penobscot Bay with friendly, engaging captain and crew was the highlight of our Maine vacation.

Very caring and knowledgeable crew. Lovely historic boat. Interesting cruise which was conducive to making acquaintances with the other guests on board. Most enjoyable. read more

What a great experience on the Appledore 2 yesterday. A wonderful, humorous and professional crew. Smooth sailing and all efforts to keep people safe and happy. Thanks so much to Chris, Jan and Jess for a great time, as well as Geoff the phenomenol singing entertainment. :) read more

It was a foggy day and they never should have taken anyone out on the boat. Yes they told us we may not see the lighthouses. I was told we would be going past 3 lighthouses, we went pass one. It was foggy and very hard to see, but they didn't even point it out. One of the other passengers made a remark they thought we were possibly just going in circles. There were repeat passengers and that's who got all the attention. They asked if anyone wanted to volunteer to raise the sails, before anyone could answer they went to the passengers who were on the boat before and helped the last time, and that's who helped. My husband and I found it to be a very boring ride. Unless it's s beautiful day and all you want is a boat ride I would not recommend it. read more

Had a perfect day on the Appledor schooner out in Penobscot Bay with a wonderful crew. I would go again for sure!

What a lovely sunset cruise. This particular night the owner was on board with some of his family and he made sure to talk to each of us about the local history and the boat. He had a wonderfully staff, especially the captain, Chris Stirling. What a treat. Try them out. read more

We had a fantastic time. The captain and crew were professional, courteous and friendly. The boat was beautiful, well maintained and spacious enough to not feel cramped at all with 40 people on board. I will do it again. read more

Took the 1000 trip before sun got too hot. Skipper Jeff and his crew were great. Each of the three crew members took time talking to small groups and sharing their knowledge of sailing in ME. Ship was clean and well run. They were very nice to children, letting them get their picture on the helm. They were also considerate of older folks with limited mobility I would recommend this cruise. read more

Excellent experience on a one of a kind schooner. Captain Chris and crew were entertaining and fun. Thanks for a great time!
