He had been getting some services in school, but he was falling farther and farther behind. We went to Lyon Learning because they were recommended to us, and it turned out to be a marvelous experience for our child. Clarisse has the right mix of enthusiasm and firmness to get through the Wilson Reading System and the other methods that she uses. Wilson is rigorous and effective, but it is difficult for a young student. Clarisse has a unique talent to keep him on task and motivated as he worked through the system. He has come very far in a short time, which was wonderful. I should also say that, in addition to the in person sessions, she recommended several online exercises to do at home on days that he did not have a session, so our child worked on his reading everyday, which was quite helpful. Also, our experience during the Covid-19 shutdowns has been quite good. Both Clarisse and her assistant Jean have been as effective over zoom as they were in person, which is not easy. We are very happy with Lyon Learning.

Employee Review - Admin assistant…read more I had the pleasure of working for NDNU's admissions and marketing team when they fully transitioned to a graduate university. Being a part of a huge shift was a learning experience and I was grateful to have had the support of several department heads. No one talked down to me or made me feel less than. Working on a campus surrounded by nature and spotting a deer on the daily brought me a sense of presence and peace that I enjoyed on my breaks. I would have stayed with NDNU but I moved out of the SF Bay Area. I enjoyed working with all the faculty and staff, but I especially enjoyed supporting current and future students. Though I was never a student I was impressed by the attention to furthering one's education by promoting small class sizes. What a way to feel seen and heard! Anywho, I'm rambling. If you have an opportunity to attend NDNU or work there, don't hesitate to apply. 4 stars because pay could be higher to meet cost of living in California.

((sniff sniff)) A few years ago I completed my Undergrad in Accounting & Finance here. Last December, I completed my last Graduate class. (Graduation ceremonies occur once a year in May.) NDNU is located in Belmont, surrounded by lush trees, wonderful weather, pretty animals, and even a beautiful mansion (Ralston Hall). NDNU has an extensive faculty of distinguished staff and professors with prestine wisdom and experience. The MBA program follows a stellar curriculum, applying assignments and projects to current, real world/global issues. Another great thing about NDNU is it's comprised of well diversed students with different backgrounds. Having such a diverse group enhances your education and brings more experience to the table, which is required in our global economy. Tuition at NDNU is definitely on the pricier side. However, this is a private university and it's worth it. Classes are intimate, enabling students with the luxury of a more one-on-one type of education. Students are not considered numbers here, but rather treated as well respected peers. Regarding education, you get exactly what you put into it. Each person may have their own opinion of this school, but what really matters is what you take away from what you've learned. NDNU has provided the necessary tools (ie staff, professors, and program), now it's up to each student & what they want to do with it. P.S. I am so done with writing school papers!

The administration also rejected my offer to personally provide skin-safe alternatives. Following a lengthy dispute over this unsafe practice, I withdrew my daughter from the program. When the school refused to reimburse my prepaid tuition, I pursued the matter in small claims court. The school sent an excessively large group of representatives to the hearing who provided inaccurate testimony under oath. At the end, they kept the tuition and kept an overpayment I made. DISHONEST ALERT!! is Beyond safety and legal issues, the environment is unprofessional and unwelcoming. Teachers speak to young children in a rude, aggressive manner rather than helping them. Furthermore, staff communication is poor; I was given less than 24 hours' notice for a major project deadline, forcing me to stay up all night to complete it. I successfully relocated my daughter to a nurturing environment at Bright Horizons. I highly recommend.

He had so much fun building silly-looking things and remote-control them move all about! Wizbots combines Lego construction with programming. There are set levels of skills so a student knows where he is and what he can look forward to. You get a Wiz chip for learning a skill, and a certain number of chips can be traded in for a Wiz wrist band. . . . It's a complicated system but my son remembered all the detail and looked forward to being promoted to the next level up. The summer camp also has outdoor activities. They do 2 projects a day. My son's current school does not offer Wizbots but he's hoping to go to the summer camp next year!

Our son tried to reason with the kid, tried to get his own materials (which he was scolded for) and tried directly asking the instructor for help, a request which was ignored. I also reported this on an email survey that the camp sent out after the first day but received no reply. We decided to totally skip the last two days and have our son learn coding on his iPad instead because he felt like his time was completely going to waste at Wizbots. I would not recommend this camp to Update to respond to the owner's comment: the camp let's 7 year olds sign up and at no point was I contacted and let know that the age of 7 was too young. As can be seen from other reviews, other 7 year olds do sign up and even have good experiences. The issue here was a lack of intervention against a clear behavioral issue and lack of responsiveness to repeated feedback in real time from my son and myself. I still have never been contacted by anyone from wizbots except via this review.

But after the pandemic started, she went almost six months without interacting with other kids, and we realized how important it was for her to learn and play with other kids in an environment that wasn't just our home. What's amazing about Open Gate is that it's a Parent Co-Op. We get to be involved and present with our kids as they learn all of life's little lessons. We know her friends by name, along with their parents. We see the curriculum and can participate and bring the lessons home with us. The 2-day, 3-day, 4-day progression gives kids a chance to learn and blossom on their own, while we get to help guide them each step of the way. With parents only being required to work in the classroom one day a week, you can feel like you are very much a part of the school without feeling like you have to give your life to it. I could go on about the other amazing aspects of the school: - Teachers Kristina and Kristi have years of experience guiding and helping kids learn how to interact, play, and learn with each other. - The curriculum is play-based, with interactive lessons and modules interspersed throughout the day. There are so many different lessons and activities, no two days are alike. - With over 40 years of history, there are so many cool toys, costumes, and games for the kids to play with. Every single storage space is filled to the brim, and the teachers bring out new toys and activities all the time to excite and fascinate the kids. - The cooperative element attracts a wide variety of families, from all walks of life. The only constant is that all parents are engaged and want to be apart of the community and their kids' upbringing.

My oldest son wishes he could go back too and often talks about "the good old days when I got to play at Open Gate". We are so thankful that we found such a fun and supportive preschool for our kids!

Also, I am a Teacher (at a different elementary school), so my standards are quite high ;-) While working at Serendipity, I was able to get to know administration and staff on a personal basis. I got a behind the scenes view. The truth is that this school is as great as it appears to be. The teachers genuinely care about their students and are extremely talented. Meaghan, the Head of the School, is down-to-earth and compassionate. She deeply cares about the families and staff she serves. My son began Serendipity in TK. He wasn't a cookie cutter child by any means. In fact, he was diagnosed with ADHD and Sensory Processing Disorder during his first year here. When I communicated this to the school, the administration was very supportive and worked with us to make his school year a positive one. This year my son is in Kindergarten and is thriving. His teacher, Ms. Kim, has embraced his many quirks (he loves to sing all day long..as a teacher myself I feel for her!). He has learned invaluable skills such as self regulation, perseverance, communication and self expression. My formerly shy child, has become an outgoing little person who is confident in who he is and isn't afraid to be himself. When you join this gem of a school, you become part of a family. You can feel the support and care that permeates the school. In elementary, the curriculum is academically rigorous and continues to progress. So that maybe an important consideration for your kid. As a 2006 alumn of Carlmont, I feel it is only appropriate to give my two cents about the place…read more Overall opinion: one of the best public high schools around. Mrs. Jenoff, the principal who I believed just retired, is responsible for bringing a lot of great things to Carlmont and giving students the opportunity to attend great universities. That's what I found so interesting about the place: you have students getting accepted to MIT, Harvard, and Stanford but also students dropping out and failing classes. Having said that, I think Carlmont is great for high achieving students who need advanced classes and teachers to challenge them, and great for under achieving students who need a less-than-average pace and teachers to slow it down for them. However, I believe that the average students in the regular classes were often forgotten. I know it can be difficult to teach to a wide range of learning abilities, which often happens in the regular-paced classes, but I think a better job could be done in this area. Besides academics, there are many sports teams to participate in, which was my main school-sponsored extracurricular activity. I know there is also a choir, band, theatre, and a very good dance program available. Not so sure how well "student run" organizations go. Regarding student body, Carlmont is extremely diverse. I remember hearing at least 4 different languages in the school hallways on any given day, yet social groups remained rather segregated. Students bused in from the surrounding areas did not often interact with students from Belmont or San Carlos nor the other way around. All in all, I think every type of student can find friends that are like them, classes that fit their needs, and activities they enjoy at Carlmont. It may not be a good fit for a student who needs a lot of attention, as the student body is large (around 500 per class I believe) so a student can easily feel unnoticed. Fights sometimes happened, but rarely. Drugs are also there, but completely avoidable if you have friends who also avoid them. I hope this review helps... I think Carlmont is only improving every year.
